  • Patent number: 4647758
Abstract: A vertical grille is disclosed, in which at least two heating elements are arranged in spaced facing relationship in substantially parallel and substantially vertical planes, defining grilling areas between them. Removable racks are associated with each grilling area for suspending the articles of food to be grilled. The rack assembly has two racks, one side of one rack detachably engaging in brackets attached to the corresponding side of the other rack, the other sides of the racks having post and post-engaging slider rods for clamping the racks together in spaced facing relationship to thereby clamp the article of food between them. A water-holding tray is positioned beneath each grilling area for holding a small quantity of water so that fat and the like falling from the articles of food falls into water in the tray and is thereby prevented from being further heated to the point of smoking. Grilling units may be ganged together in side-to-side fashion, so as to produce an array of grilling areas.

  • Patent number: 4630853
Abstract: An auxiliary locking device for a sliding door is disclosed, comprising a blocking member having an upward-opening longitudinal channel near its inner side for receiving the inner frame member of the sliding door channel. At least one clamping screw protrudes through threaded hole(s) in the inner side of the blocking member into the longitudinal channel, for clamping the blocking member to the inner frame member of the sliding door with the outer portion of the blocking member protruding into the sliding door channel for blocking sliding of the sliding door, thereby preventing opening of the door past the blocking member location. A rod projects from the outer portion of the blocking member for positioning along the sliding door channel above the sliding door when the device is installed, for thereby preventing the sliding door from being lifted out of its channel for removal. The outer portion of the blocking member is provided with an upward-opening channel, and the rod is L-shaped.

  • Patent number: 4617824
Abstract: Apparatus for pressure testing of a cylinder head for leak detection is disclosed. A clamping plate, crossbar members, clamping members connected to the crossbar members, and clamping screws threaded onto the clamping members clamp the plate towards the crossbar members compressing water passage port sealing plugs positioned between the machined surface of the cylinder head and the clamping plate, thereby sealing the water passage ports. An air pressure source, liquid source and a pump connect to a diversion valve, the outlet of which supplies air pressure or liquid as selected to cylinder head inlet tubes at a water passage port. Cylinder head outlet tubes with an outlet valve are connected to another water passage port.

  • Patent number: 4607610
Abstract: A downdraft stove with a conical reaction chamber surrounded by a heat-insulating mass is disclosed. A tubular grating installed in the reaction chamber has a substantially vertically oriented central tube open at its upper end and connected at its lower end to an air inlet opening, and a cap supported above the open upper end, the space between the cap and the upper end constituting a primary air inlet nozzle. A plurality of grating tubes are radially distributed around and take off substantially horizontally from and communicate with the central tube, thereby defining a grating, and then turn downwardly into a conical shape conforming to the reaction chamber shape and are open at their downward ends to thereby constitute secondary air inlets. The downward-projecting ends of the grating tubes are twisted about the axis of the central tube in order to induce a swirling air flow pattern in the reaction chamber.

  • Patent number: 4595312
Abstract: An improved traffic marker for deployment into the running surface of a roadway is disclosed wherein a light reflecting reflector thereof is normally positioned at above grade to enhance the visibility of retro-reflecting light impinging thereon from ongoing traffic. The reflector is mounted in a circumscribing holder, hardened to withstand the onslaught of vehicular traffic and of leading tungsten edges of snow plow blades. On impact, the holder descends into the marker, out of harm's way, carrying with it the reflector so that the reflector is not damaged. After impact, pneumatic pressure built up in the marker as a result of the descending action of the holder restores instantaneously the holder to above grade and hence the light reflecting surfaces as well. A four-step assembly operation of the unit develops a sub-assembly for holder and flexible membrane and a hermetic and pneumatically sealing boundary surface therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4560236
Abstract: A reflector element which reflects different colored signals back towards a light source, depending on which side of a center plane the source is positioned, is disclosed. Reflective surfaces parallel to and equidistant from the imaginary center plane face each other. A third reflective surface is adjacent to, abuts, and is perpendicular to the other two reflective surfaces. Optionally, a fourth reflective surface is adjacent to, abuts, and is perpendicular to the other three reflective surfaces. Some or all of the reflective surfaces on one side of the center plane are tinted, and some or all of the reflective surfaces on the other side of the center plane may be differently tinted.

  • Patent number: 4556054
Abstract: An ankle orthosis useful for the prevention and/or rehabilitation of inversion injuries is disclosed. The orthosis includes a cuff adapted for fastening around the leg above the ankle, a foot plate for positioning beneath the foot, and connecting means extending down the lateral side of the orthosis. Resilient or elastic means may be employed in conjunction with non-elastic means to produce any desired combination of elastic and non-elastic restriction of ankle inversion.

  • Patent number: 4530748
Abstract: Novel apparatus of the rotating cathode type for the electrolytic recovery of silver from spent photographic processing solutions is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a tank, at least one cylindrical cathode carried for rotation in the tank about a vertical axis, and for each cathode, at least one vertically disposed slat-like anode positioned with respect to the cathode surface so as to define a vertically elongated venturi between the cathode and the anode, the narrowest section of each venturi being substantially along a vertical edge of each anode, and preferably being not substantially more than about one inch in dimension. Each anode preferably is substantially parallel to a tangent drawn to the cathode surface opposite the vertical edge of the anode at the narrowest section of the venturi. The vertical edge of each anode at the narrowest section of the venturi preferably has a ninety-degree or sharper corner, whereby the strength of the electric field is concentrated in the region of the venturi.

  • Patent number: 4516192
Abstract: A lamp carriage arm, adapted for attachment to a safety hat, is disclosed. The lamp carriage arm offers improved lighting for miners and other workers by virtue of the lamp being positioned roughly in the area of above and in front of the safety hat wearer's collarbone. The lamp carriage arm attaches at one end to one side of the safety hat, and extends downwardly in spaced relationship to the side of the safety hat wearer's head. Conventional lighting, e.g. a miner's lamp, is carried at the other end of the lamp carriage arm. Preferably, the attachment of the lamp to the carriage arm is pivotal, so that the direction of the lamp beam may be varied. Thus the use of a ball and socket joint is disclosed, although other means may be employed. Adjustment means for varying the position of the lamp are also disclosed.
