Patent number: 5049060Abstract: The Assembly has a circular platform, which is threaded about its periphery, and has an upstanding stub about which to set a sleeve-type or cylindrical seal, as well as an arcuately cross-sectioned groove in circumscription of the base of the stub. A cup-shaped closure, having a circular wall, and threaded on the inner wall surface, threadedly engages the threaded periphery of the platform. Upon the platform and closure being threadedly engaged, the closure forces the seal along the stub until an inner end of the seal enters the groove and takes on a proper flare. The closure protects the seal from shipping damage.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1990Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Dresser-Rand CompanyInventor: Thomas D. O'Leary

Patent number: 4649978Abstract: A vehicle is supported by wheel and tire assemblies. The assemblies each have a tire mounted around a cylindrical wheel rim and retained in place by an annular retaining ring that abuts the wheel rim and the tire. A lock ring is located in an annular groove in the wheel rim and abuts the retaining ring to hold the retaining ring in place against the tire. A tension plate is connected to the retaining ring through a set of tap screws to hold the tension plate against the end of the wheel rim and thereby retain the annular ring and the tire against rotation around the rim.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventor: Gregory A. Patent number: 4604943Abstract: An impulse tool has an air motor connected to rotate a housing that carries a spindle adapted to be connected to a tool. The housing and cavity provide a pulsating force for rotating the spindle and tool to a pre-selected torque limit. When the limit is reached a rod in the housing is moved rearwardly to contact an "L" shaped arm. The "L" shaped arm is moved to release a valve assembly that operates to close off the air supply to the air motor and thereby turn off the tool.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1985Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventor: Reginald W. Patent number: 4570741Abstract: A selectable multi-wheel drive system for a mining machine has an electrical motor directly driving a wheel and driving a hydraulic pump through a clutching mechanism. Another wheel is connected to be driven by a hydraulic motor connected through a hydraulic circuit to be driven by the hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump is selectively connected to the hydraulic motor so that one wheel or both wheels may be driven. The hydraulic circuit is controlled so that when in a one wheel drive condition the hydraulic motor is placed in a free-wheeling mode and no losses occur in the hydraulic circuit because of connection to the wheel.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1984Date of Patent: February 18, 1986Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventor: Gregory A. Patent number: 4539893Abstract: Disclosed herein is a power feed system for translating a rotary drill head along the length of a guide tower. The system utilizes a compound balanced area, end fed hydraulic cylinder as the actuating means. This arrangement provides a large ratio of fixed overall length to usable travel distance, balanced feed force in both directions, direct connection of the rotary head to the outer stage of the cylinder, and drift-free operation, all without the need for moving hydraulic hoses.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1984Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventor: Hans Zingl

Patent number: 4512417Abstract: This invention pertains to a hydraulic reciprocating device having a housing and a piston in the housing. The piston has a first and second surface, and a means for intermittently communicating the first surface of the piston with a hydraulic pressure source. Also provided is a means for continuously communicating the second surface of the piston with pressurized fluid such as pneumatic fluid. The piston moves in a first direction when the hydraulic pressure source communicates with the first surface of the piston and the piston moves in a second direction when the hydraulic pressure source does not communicate with the first surface of the piston.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1984Date of Patent: April 23, 1985Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventor: Ewald H. Patent number: 4511637Abstract: A receptacle for retaining a battery case in a battery powered vehicle contains hydraulic cylinders for lowering and raising the battery case into and out of the vehicle. Retaining arms attached to the hydraulic cylinder have retaining lips that are moved by contact with the walls of the receptacle to engage lip extensions on the battery case when the battery case is loaded into the vehicle. Upon removal of the battery case a bias spring swings the retaining arms away from the battery and releases it for removal.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1983Date of Patent: April 16, 1985Assignee: S & S CorporationInventor: Robert E. Patent number: 4505343Abstract: According to a depicted embodiment thereof, the novel earth bit comprises a shank having a threaded end and a bit head centrally bored and threaded to receive a shank. A stack of apertured discs, however, is interposed between the threaded bore or cavity in the bit head and the threaded end of the shank. The discs intimately engage, and bridge between, the shank and bit head threads, and communicate torque therebetween. The bit head cavity has a bearing surface or land upon which the discs are supported, and the shank has an annular shoulder which bears upon the stack and, thus, compressive forces are communicated from the shank to the bit head. The bit head, of the invention, then, comprises the aforesaid bit head, having the stack of discs secured therein by a retainer, for use, in a plural-part earth bit having a threaded shank.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1983Date of Patent: March 19, 1985Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventors: Robert W. Hughes, James F. Cantrel

Patent number: 4503917Abstract: An improved drill feeding mechanism for a rock and earth drilling machine is disclosed wherein substantially all the loading forces due to the drilling and extracting operations are directed away from the upper portion of the tower. This is accomplished in the preferred embodiment by having a hydraulically displaced carriage guidingly supported for linear translation along a drill tower. Cable reeving about the carriage is anchored at a mid point on the tower and reversably displaces a guided drilling head at twice the linear velocity of the carriage and in the same direction. A hydraulic cylinder is attached at the tower base and activates the carriage.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1982Date of Patent: March 12, 1985Assignee: Ingersoll-Rand CompanyInventors: Richard J. Hargenrader, James A. Miller

Patent number: RE34367Abstract: The seal, for use especially in non-lubricated, high-pressure, as compressors, in a one-piece, continuous sleeve which envelopes a reciprocable piston for sealing against the piston, or against the cylinder in which the piston translates. One end of the sleeve effects the sealing engagement, and the other end is spring-loaded to maintain the engagement. During operation of the compressor, or the like, it is the high-pressure gas which urges the seal into sealing engagement.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1992Date of Patent: September 7, 1993Assignee: Dresser-Rand CompanyInventors: Bernard F.
