  • Patent number: 6683435
Abstract: An electrical machine drive system (100) includes a DC power source (102), an inverter (104) and a three-phase electrical machine (106). In response to a fault condition, power switches (122, 124) in the inverter are opened. Any short circuits are then determined by examining the phase currents of the three-phase electrical machine. If short circuits are found in the inverter, then the inverter is made balanced by shorting all upper braches (122, 126) or all lower branches (124, 128), depending on the location of the short circuit. Torque ripples are avoided by balancing the circuit during the fault mode, thereby providing comfort to a user of an electric or hybrid electric vehicle employing the electrical machine drive system.

  • Patent number: 6396904
Abstract: A method is provided for determining whether the immediate state of a telecommunications switch (110) is adequate for a software upgrade or retrofit. A report stream of text messages relating to the state of, and events occurring on, the telecommunications switch is received (200) by a server (102). Predetermined messages are detected in the report stream, including messages indicating hardware errors, alarms and other errors (202). The predetermined messages have a numerical value associated therewith (204). The numerical value reflects a probability of failure of a retrofit if the message is detected. As the predetermined messages are detected, their numerical values are accumulated into an accumulated value (206). If the accumulated value exceeds a threshold, the switch is not fit for the retrofit (210, 211). The time spent receiving the report stream is determined and compared against an expected time (216).

  • Patent number: 6317042
Abstract: In response to an emergency event, an emergency announcement system (100) causes display of an escape route based upon a room location. A sensor (104) detects an emergency event. The sensor data (106) from the sensor relating to the emergency event is transmitted to an emergency server (122), the emergency server (122) determines the escape route and the escape route is sent to a display device (118) for use by the building occupants to escape the emergency.
