  • Patent number: 4877426
Abstract: The draft forcing fan system in a vapor adsorber is used to extract spent powdered or granular adsorbent from the contacting column by blocking the normal air route intake and discharge ducts. Auxiliary fittings mounted on the intake and discharge ducting facilitate temporary duct connections with a conveniently sized vacuum receiving cannister. In this mode, the fan which forces draft through the adsorption unit operates as a vacuum sweeper. A manually manipulated sweeper wand connected to the vacuum cannister is used to draft the spent adsorbent charge from the contacting chamber into the cannister for removal, regeneration or disposal.

  • Patent number: 4867886
Abstract: The flow of waste water sludge flocculant to a dewatering system is regulated by a surface proximity sensor located downstream of the flocculant addition point. Depth, variability and continuity of a partially drained sludge mat are evaluated by a depth sensor signal processor/analyzer. Signal characteristics representative of an optimally flocculated sludge mat are referenced by the processor/analyzer to establish high and low control set-point values. A variable speed flocculant supply pump or flow control valve is adjusted in response to an operational signal from the depth sensor which exceeds the set-point range.

  • Patent number: 4799997
Abstract: A system for sensing a web break using web break detection instruments. Upon sensing a break a strategically located, full web width deflection cam bears against the machine web upstream of the detected break. Under the bias of the deflector, the web running route is pushed into a saw-toothed cutter blade. Saw-tooth points simultaneously penetrate the web along a line traversing the full web width. Such line of web penetration becomes an immediate line of full width web breakage but at a location along the machine length designed to accommodate the waste production (broke) until web continuity along the remainder of the machine length is restored.

  • Patent number: 4790668
Abstract: A viscometric thermometer is fabricated with two sensing capillaries connected serially in a common fluid flow circuit. The first capillary is immersed in a reference bath of known constant temperature. Pressure differential across the first capillary is measured and the fluid medium flow rate through the common circuit is determined. The second sensor is positioned in the unknown temperature environment and pressure differential across the second capillary is measured. This second capillary pressure differential is combined with the determined flow rate value to further determine the unknown temperature value.

  • Patent number: 4683745
Abstract: A method and apparatus is taught for rapidly implementing a semiautomatic vacuum test of food cannisters prior to filling. Unit numbers of completely formed but unfilled cannisters are manually positioned on vacuum mandrels and the test sequence started. Progress of the sequence is controlled automatically and concluded by a digital value report of the unit seal quality. Test productivity is maximized by preparing a second unit number of cannisters for test, as the test sequence for a first unit number of cannisters progresses. Should a number of cannisters fail a test sequence, means are provided to test each cannister individually to determine the exact cause of failure.

  • Patent number: 4662993
Abstract: A bleach system for blending gaseous chlorine with a paper pulp slurry flow stream by mixing the chlorine with a larger quantity of steam prior to blending the chlorine/steam gas mixture with bleach washer filtrate which serves as carrier water for a multiplied number of gas bubbles entrained in the filtrate. As the cooler filtrate water extracts heat from the mixed gas bubble, the steam constituent condenses to collapse each bubble to a fraction of the original volume thereby providing a larger number of smaller chlorine bubbles than otherwise available from conventional phase mixing injectors. The mixed phase flow stream of chlorine and filtrate is thereafter blended with the pulp slurry flow stream by shear induced turbulence resulting from a greater injection velocity of the mixed phase stream into the center of the slower moving slurry stream.
