The valve also includes an orifice assembly located in the valve body encircling the valve member. The orifice assembly includes a perforated cylindrical member encircling the valve member and a plurality of annular discs encircling the cylindrical member. The discs include both orifice discs and spacer discs. The orifice discs are located between the spacer discs and each orifice disc is provided with a plurality of orifices. Each spacer disc is provided with a plurality of flow ports that are arranged to aligned serially with the orifices which provide a long curvilinear or spiral flow path through the orifice assembly.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1981Date of Patent: October 4, 1983Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventors: Lloyd D. Hanson, Robert M. Purton

Patent number: 4248107Abstract: An improved adjusting torque wrench includes an adjusting screw that is utilized for the purpose of changing the torque setting of the wrench. The screw has a radial flange thereon having a plurality of circumferentially spaced notches in the outer periphery of the flange. The adjusting screw is fixed to the grip member and rotatable therewith relative to an adjusting nut that is fixed in the lever arm of the wrench. A detent that is movable into and out of the recesses in the adjusting screw is slidably carried by the lever arm so that when engaged in the recesses, the detent prevents relative rotation between the grip member and the lever arm, and thus prevents adjustment of the torque. Also, the detent extends exteriorly of the gripping member so that it can be grasped by the operator of the wrench and moved out of the recesses so that the wrench can be easily adjusted to a new torque setting.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1979Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Raymond J. Blattner

Patent number: 4242893Abstract: A tube expander having a stop collar for limiting the axial movement of the tube end relative to the expander to prevent damage to the tube end. The stop collar is comprised of a hollow stop collar body having the end adjacent to the tube end slotted to slidingly receive a pair of stop members that can be moved relative to each other to vary the size of the aperture extending through the stop collar body. The stop collar members substantially encircle the cage and have surfaces thereon that engage the end of the tube.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1979Date of Patent: January 6, 1981Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Charles E. Patent number: 4195589Abstract: The improved indicating device is constructed from a single piece of resilient material such as Delrin or Teflon and includes a bifurcated friction portion that is disposed in a groove in the wrench. The friction portion is constructed so that the tines can be deformed to pass through a narrow slot and frictionally engage sides of the groove. The indicator member also includes an upstanding portion that is engageable with the pointer of the torque wrench to move the indicator as the pointer moves relative to the torque scale. Since the indicator member is in frictional engagement with the torque wrench, the indicator remains at the maximum torque after releasing the torque from the wrench and permitting the pointer to return to zero, thereby facilitating reading the maximum torque exerted.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1978Date of Patent: April 1, 1980Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Raymond J. Blattner

Patent number: 4063474Abstract: The improved torque limiting screwdriver described hereinafter includes an elongated bit receptacle that extends into a handle or gripping portion. An operative connection is made between the handle and the bit receptacle by a torque limiting device that can be adjusted to release at predetermined torque settings. The end of the gripping portion opposite to that from which the bit receptacle extends is provided with a cap member that is interconnected with means for adjusting the torque setting. The cap member provides an extension of the gripping portion and presents a smooth end to the user to avoid discomfort during the use of the screwdriver. A threaded fastener extends through the cap member into the gripping portion so that the preset torque can be locked into the torque limiting screwdriver and, thus, avoid the possibility of an inadvertent change of the desired torque setting.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1975Date of Patent: December 20, 1977Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Norman Conrad Klopping

Patent number: 3999882Abstract: The improved flushing and cooling system of this invention includes a pumping ring seal located at each end of the pump with the seal located adjacent to the discharge being in fluid communication with a pressure-reducing device in the pump. The pressure-reducing device is also connected by means of a bypass conduit with the seal located adjacent the pump inlet and with the pump inlet itself. A flow control orifice member is located adjacent the pressure-reducing device and is arranged to control flow from the by-pass conduit into and out of the pumping ring seal that is located adjacent the pump discharge. A second flow control orifice member is located adjacent the pump inlet and functions to control the flow into and out of the seal located adjacent the pump inlet. The arrangement of the system is such that the fluid passing through the pump is utilized to cool and flush both of the seals and to maintain the seals at substantially the same pressure.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1975Date of Patent: December 28, 1976Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert M. Purton

Patent number: 3999426Abstract: Described herein is an improved torque analyzing apparatus for indicating the torque transmitted by power tools. In addition to the housing, bearing supports and torque indicator or pointer, the apparatus includes a torque input shaft that is frictionally connected with a torsion or spiral spring through a resilient sleeve on the shaft. The torsion spring is connected to and transmits torque to a spring housing which is connected to a torsion bar. The torque indicator or pointer is mounted on the spring housing. The torsion spring or spiral spring permits several rotations of the torque input shaft and provides a gradual increase in the torque that is applied to the torsion bar.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1975Date of Patent: December 28, 1976Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: John Robert Sonderegger

Patent number: 3983607Abstract: The safety hook disclosed herein includes a hook body that is comprised of a general cylindrical shank and a curved bill that defines a hook throat and terminates in a bill tip. An L-shaped latch member is arranged to close the hook opening and to be latched into closed position due to its engagement with the hook body and with the bill tip. Opening of the hook to receive the load requires linear and rotational movement of the latch member. Such movement is easily accomplished intentionally, but virtually impossible to accomplish inadvertently. Further, the latching mechanism may include apparatus for retaining the latch member in an open position when desired and also may include spring return means for returning the latch member to the closed position automatically.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1976Date of Patent: October 5, 1976Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Howard C. Stevens, Jr.

Patent number: 3972652Abstract: The improved clearance pocket or chamber for compressors described in this specification includes a hollow housing attached to the cylinder of the compressor. The housing is divided into two clearance chambers and into three power chambers. A valve member located in the housing is movable to provide communication between the compressor cylinder and one or both of the clearance chambers. Movable pistons operably arranged with respect to the valve member are located in the power chambers to position the valve member in the desired position. Suitable fluid power means is connected with the power chambers to cause the desired movement of the pistons.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1975Date of Patent: August 3, 1976Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Michael Anthony Minnicino

Patent number: 3971210Abstract: The system described herein utilizes a constant speed compressor to augment a service compressor that is an integral part of a gas turbine engine to assure that adequate pressure and volume of air is provided for fuel atomization during start-up of the engine. Further, the system is arranged so that the service compressor automatically assumes the load as its speed increases during the acceleration of the gas turbine engine. The system is designed so that the starting compressor will not be overloaded and can be completely isolated from the circuit if desired.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1975Date of Patent: July 27, 1976Assignee: Dresser Industries, Inc.Inventor: Willis Earl Rose
