Abstract: A continuous process for preparing nitrilotriacetonitrile in which the reactants, formaldehyde, hydrogen cyanide, and either ammonia or hexamethylenetetramine are reacted first in a mixing reactor, preferably a circulating loop reactor at from about 90.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C., then reacted in a plug flow tubular reactor at from about 95.degree. C. to about 120.degree. C., then after cooling the reaction mixture crystalline nitrilotriacetonitrile is recovered.
Abstract: Aqueous solutions of aminomethylenephosphonic acid selected from diethylenetriaminepenta(methylenephosphonic acid), diethylenetriaminetetra(methylenephosphonic acid), diethylenetriaminetri(methylenephosphonic acid) and mixtures thereof are stabilized against crystallization of said aminomethylenephosphonic acid by including non-oxidizing mineral acid in such solutions in an amount stoichiometrically equivalent to at least 10% hydrochloric acid by weight of the solution.
Abstract: Novel processes are provided for producing anhydrous dicalcium phosphate (DCPA) and the gamma and beta forms of calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) from the reaction of phosphoric acid and lime. Dentifrice compositions containing the resultant phosphates are also disclosed.

Abstract: Polymeric phosphonate anhydrides are formed by dehydrating a reaction mixture comprising a salt of a diphosponic acid. The invention includes the polymeric phosphonate, its method of preparation, and a primary use.
Abstract: The disclosed process is employed to recover phenol from aqueous solutions produced by distillation of the product of a process for producing a phenyl ester by the reaction of a carboxylic acid and phenol. Purified phenyl ester is employed to extract phenol from the aqueous solution. The extract is combined with raw product for recovery of the phenol and phenyl ester. In a preferred embodiment the process for producing the phenyl ester is continuous and the extract containing phenol and phenyl ester are fed to the dewatered ester stream for product recovery.
Abstract: Alkylarylsulfonate compositions containing low 2-phenyl alkylbenzene sulfonates and alkylated diphenyl oxide sulfonates are provided. The compositions have improved solubility and detergency properties and are useful in aqueous base detergent formulations. Also provided are intermediate compositions suitable for cosulfonation and neutralization.

Abstract: Substituted-butanediperoxoic acids are produced by peroxidizing substituted succinic anhydride in a strong acid reaction medium in the presence of a reaction modifier. Product throughput is improved and product recovery is enhanced. The substituted-butanediperoxoic acids are particularly useful as bleaching agents.

Abstract: Calcium carbonate particles are coated with a pyrophosphate derivative. The invention includes the coated particles, method of preparation and use in oral hygiene products.
Abstract: A process for preparing anhydrous sodium phenol sulfonate low in APHA color wherein the hydrated material is subjected to a temperature in the range of from about 140.degree. C. to 200.degree. C. in an inert atmosphere for a period of time not exceeding two hours.
Abstract: Unmilled commercially available granular "natural" soda ash is reacted with orthophosphoric acid to produce a highly concentrated slurry at a molar Na:P ratio of about 1.5 in a continuous process. Problems associated with incomplete reaction are solved and the slurry can be dried to the double salt Na.sub.3 H.sub.3 (PO.sub.4).sub.2 or reacted with aqueous sodium hydroxide to produce a superior precursor for manufacturing sodium tripolyphosphate.
Abstract: Detergent compositions are disclosed which contain on a dry weight basis, from 1 to 40% of a water-insoluble aluminosilicate and from 0.5 to 5% of a aminopoly(methylenephosphonate) component which is a mixture of an ethylenediamine derivative of the formula ##STR1## and a diethylenetriamine derivative of the formula ##STR2## wherein, in each formula, R is selected from H, --CH.sub.2 PO.sub.3 M.sub.2 and --CH.sub.3 wherein M is selected from hydrogen and alkali metal, provided that at least 3 Rs are --CH.sub.2 PO.sub.3 M.sub.2 and further provided that the weight ratio of ethylenediamine derivative to diethylenetriamine derivative is from 3:1 to 1:5, and the combined weight of the aluminosilicate material and the aminopoly(methylenephosphonate) component is at least 5% of the dry weight of the composition.
Abstract: An improved process is provided for producing polymeric acetal carboxylate salts useful as detergent builders. The process comprises polymerization of an alkyl glyoxylate, optionally with one or more comonomers; addition of stabilizing endgroups; and saponification of the polymeric ester to produce the polymeric acetal carboxylate salts. Active yield is improved by reducing the number of polymer chains with unstable temporary endcaps entering the saponification step.
