  • Patent number: 3994655
Abstract: A molding machine into which nested stacks of preforms or parisons at ambient temperatures are loaded, which denests and applies the preforms individually onto complementary shaped mandrels in the machine. The preforms are made of a thermoplastic material, such as polystyrene, and the mandrels of the molding machine are internally heated to heat each parison as the machine is intermittently rotated. The mandrels are circumferentially mounted about a carriage in the machine and the carriage rotates about a horizontal axis. When viewing the machine at the side at which the carriage rotates in a counterclockwise direction, the preforms are individually applied to the mandrels at the 3 o'clock position by a loading mechanism. From the 3 o'clock position around and to the 6 o'clock position each preform is being heated on its mandrel.

  • Patent number: 3991640
Abstract: A cutting mechanism which cooperates with certain types of package forming machines to produce packages of a plurality of containers. The certain package forming machines continuously deliver at least three rows of containers with a strip of applied carrier stock interconnecting the containers in rank and file to a cut-off station. The cutting mechanism mounted at the cut-off station includes a knife blade assembly that is rotated in timed relationship to the movement of the rows of containers with the applied carrier stock to cut the applied carrier stock between certain ranks which are between the side files of the containers. Cutting means are also provided for cutting the applied carrier stock on the side files of the containers between the same ranks where the carrier stock is cut by the knife blade assembly to form individual packages of a predetermined plurality of ranks of said containers.

  • Patent number: 3981170
Abstract: A method and apparatus for assembling a screw and an axially compressible washer and rolling threads on the screw blank in a single operation that results in a shank configuration immediately beneath the head of the screw that allows complete compression of the washer. The method involves assembling a washer on the blank and retaining it thereon while the washer and screw assembly are subjected to swaging forces from opposing reciprocating thread rolling dies. The washer is retained on the blank in such a manner as to allow the thread rolling dies to swage an upper section of the blank and thereafter move the washer upwardly directly adjacent the head in a single thread rolling pass.

  • Patent number: 3981607
Abstract: A boring bar having a removable indexable cutting insert with a plurality of cutting edges is disclosed. The cutting insert is held in place in the bar by a locking finger on an insert clamp which is locked into place by a ball which is wedged against a release pin that engages the clamp. The ball may be moved so as to allow the pin to move, thereby releasing the force applied by the clamp whenever the insert is to be indexed or whenever a replacement of the insert is required. This is achieved by either manual or hydraulic control of a wedge shaft that engages the ball.

  • Patent number: 3980263
Abstract: Disclosed is a plastic holder device which is useful in holding a length of wire and other elongated objects. The holder has a pair of opposite legs extending from the head portion. One leg has a slant branch extending from the vicinity of the root of the leg, and it has a flap hinged to its free end.The flap has a similar branch, and when the flap is raised around the hinge, and is fitted in the inter-leg space, the branch of the flap defines with the counter branch of the leg, a converging space in which an elongated object is fixedly confined. The holder device is easy to handle, still assuring the positive gripping of the elongated object.

  • Patent number: 3978474
Abstract: A keyboard having N-Key Lockout and Two-Key Rollover Protection is disclosed. Each key switch of the keyboard is assigned a unique time slot in a scan cycle. A key switch actuation results in a logic "1" signal at the input of a shift register which is shifted to the output of the shift register one scan time later. Comparison of the input and output states of the shift register results in a signal which indicates when any key switch has not been actuated during the last scan cycle in order to reset a flip-flop which produces a strobe pulse to external data processing equipment. A modulus 2 counter, and other associated circuitry, inhibits the strobe pulse whenever two key switches are actuated during the same scan cycle.
