  • Patent number: 6769667
Abstract: The sensitivity of a pressure-sensitive element in a pressure-sensitive part of a control valve for variable-capacity compressor is made adjustable by means of an adjusting screw provided so as to permit an adjustment of forward and backward movement with respect to a frame supporting the pressure-sensitive part. The adjusting screw is rotated by engaging an engagement part, which is annexed to a coil assembly constituting a solenoid excitation part, against the adjusting screw thereby to operate the coil assembly.

  • Patent number: 6485772
Abstract: The invention provides a treating process of cacao beans, and more particularly cacao powder rich in polyphenols, a process for the preparation thereof and a prepared cacao composed of the cacao powder. According to the invention, the polyphenol contained in the cacao beans is allowed to remain as much as possible, by setting initial water content in the roasting treatment to 3-10% by weight. Although polyphenols have various favorable biological functions of anti-oxidating action, anti-dental cariesing action, action for preventing arteriosclerosis and so on, but those are unfavorable from the view point of taste because of astringency and bitterness. In a conventional process for preparing cacao powder, therefore, an operation for removing polyphenols has been carried out, but in the invention, the astringency and bitterness are inhibited by setting water content of the cacao nib to 3-10% by weight in the alkali treatment prior to the roasting treatment.

  • Patent number: 6481009
Abstract: The invention provides a television receiver which comprises a setting key to be manipulated for setting RATING information, a decoder 4 for extracting RATING information from V-chip signal, a memory 5 for storing RATING information, and a control circuit 1 for reading RATING information from the decoder 4 when the user depresses the setting key and storing the read RATING information in the memory 5. This construction assures a facilitated procedure for setting RATING information and enables the user to set desired RATING information even if the user fails to understand the meanings of the symbols representing the RATING information, further enabling the user to reliably prohibit viewing of programs of a level contemplated by the user.

  • Patent number: 6252341
Abstract: An impregnated cathode and a method of manufacturing the same are provided for suppressing emission of unwanted electrons and particles generated from an excess electron emitting substance so as to achieve a steady electron emission characteristic. The impregnated cathode is placed directly beneath an electron emission hole of a first grid. The impregnated cathode is made up of a first sintered porous element whose surface functions as an electron emitting region and a second sintered porous element whose surface is a peripheral region other than the electron emitting region. The porosity of the first sintered porous element is greater than that of the second sintered porous element. Not only the first sintered porous element having the electron emitting region but also the second sintered porous element corresponding to the region around the electron emitting region is impregnated with the electron emitting substance.

  • Patent number: 6194400
Abstract: A method of treating addiction to a chemical, and products containing the chemical, is provided, which comprises administering to a human in need thereof, an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition which comprises a sex steroid precursor. The chemical is one or more chemicals selected from the group consisting of nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, methadone, heroin, cocaine and subutex. The sex steroid precursor is selected from the group which comprises DHEA, DHEAS, analogues of DHEA, and analogues of DHEAS. A method of preparing a medicinally effective treatment for addiction to a chemical or to products containing the chemical is also disclosed, which includes synthetically producing or extracting a sex steroid precursor from a source where said sex steroid precursor was naturally produced in vivo, and combining an amount of the sex steroid precursor sufficient to effectively treat a human addiction to the chemical with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, excipient or agent.
