    Abstract: A coupling apparatus for spanning a gap between a first structure and a second structure and fixedly coupling the first and second structures together. The coupling apparatus includes first and second coupling structures, an attachment member and a coupling member. The first coupling structure has an internally threaded cavity and is fixedly coupled to the first structure. The second coupling structure has an externally threaded body and an abutting flange. The externally threaded body threadably engages the internally threaded cavity, permitting the first and second coupling structures to cooperate to span the gap between the first and second structures such that the abutting flange abuts the second structure. The attachment member includes a threaded portion which extends through the first and second coupling structures and threadably engages the coupling member.

    Abstract: A method is provided for determining the barometric pressure external to an air intake of an internal combustion engine, comprising the steps of: (a) providing a pressure value indicative of an absolute pressure in the intake manifold of the engine; (b) providing a mass airflow value of the airflow into the engine; (c) characterizing a pressure drop across the intake system based on the mass airflow value; and (d) determining a barometric pressure based on the pressure value and the pressure drop, such that the pressure drop is indicative of the pressure differential between the atmospheric pressure and the pressure in the intake manifold. Furthermore, the determination of the barometric pressure may be triggered when the throttle blade reaches a predetermined throttle threshold position which is a function of the rotational speed of the engine.

The slot is adapted to receive a pin extending from the valve cover for selectively retaining the ignition coil to the valve cover through a twisting connection. A biasing member is further included for biasing the retaining clip in a retaining position. The biasing member is mounted between the retaining clip and the valve cover.

    Abstract: The vehicle body of the present invention includes a first body structure formed from a plurality of tube members and a second body structure formed from sheet metal. The plurality of tube members are loosely fastened together so as to form the first body structure. The first body structure is splayed in a predetermined direction, inserted between two sheet metal members of the second body structure and fixedly secured thereto. Since the tube members are not rigidly fastened together, the tube members are free to move relative to one another in a direction lateral to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, thereby permitting for size variation in the second body structure. The tube members are then securely fastened together. The design of the first and second body structures facilitates a welding process wherein the welds joining the first and second body structures may be staggered and offset to further improve the rigidity and durability of the vehicle body.

    Abstract: An electronic circuit for measuring voltage signals in an energy storage device is disclosed. The circuit includes a plurality of battery segments forming the energy storage device. An amplifier circuit is connected across one of the battery segments for converting a differential voltage to a reference current. A sense resistor is associated with the amplifier circuit to convert the reference current to a voltage signal which is proportional to the voltage across the battery segment. A voltage measurement node associated with the sensing resistor may be used for measuring the voltage signal. In one embodiment of the invention, a multiplexing and sampling circuit provides digitized voltage samples to a processor. The voltage level of each cell within the battery pack can then be monitored by the processor.

The pump cover comprises a generally circular plate having a centrally disposed aperture. The generally circular plate defines an outer portion and an inner portion. The outer portion of the generally circular plate is adapted to engage the inner recess of the transmission housing. Likewise, the inner portion of the generally circular plate is adapted to engage the outer recess of the pump housing. Thus, the generally circular plate cooperates with the transmission housing and the pump housing to enclose and seal a fluid volume adjacent the fluid pump, thereby minimizing the need for fluid seals within the fluid pump.

    Abstract: An adjustment circuit and method for reading a measurement output of an automotive oxygen sensor provide correction for outgassing of the sensor and inversion of the measurement output. The adjustment circuit includes a biasing stage connected to a sensor return of the oxygen sensor, where the biasing stage applies a predetermined bias voltage to the sensor return. An input stage is connected to an output of the sensor for retrieving the measurement output from the sensor. The adjustment circuit further includes an A/D conversion system connected to the input stage for adjusting the measurement output based on the bias voltage. The A/D conversion system may further be connected to the biasing stage for retrieving a sensor return output from the sensor. In such cases, a differential module calculates a difference between the sensor return output and the measurement output. The sensor return output defines an actual bias voltage applied to the sensor return.

Undesired resilience or spring in the steering shaft support mechanism is eliminated, such that the system has a desired predictability in frontal crash situations.
