  • Patent number: 5374401
Abstract: A blood sampling apparatus includes a housing (1) closed off by a rotatable cover (4), which in turn seals off the housing completely with a seal (7). The cover has a threaded sleeve (9), which cooperates with a piston rod for axial displacement of a piston (2). The housing cover has an opening closed off by a sterile filter (11). When the piston (2) is displaced, this piston rod always remains completely inside the housing (1), so that no bacteria, other kinds of germs or any other kind of contamination can penetrate the housing from the outside (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5366257
Abstract: An improved connecting device for of securing a pipe fitting of one material to a pipe of another. This invention provides a connector body with an insert fitting which does not leak therebetween. Further, the invented device has an integral annular flange, which extends into the surrounding body thereby preventing the body from expanding with heat and slipping with relation to the insert upon engaging the fitting with a nipple or other pipe material, and twisting forcefully.

  • Patent number: 5361972
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for shielding inert gas from seeping out of metal pipes in a welding application wherein a high-temperature resistant purge strap is placed around the weld gap and the pipe ends. Advantageously, the purge strap is equipped with a window to allow the welder access to the pipe ends. Dams may be inserted into each pipe near the end to be welded, the purge strap placed about the pipes covering the end of each, and inert gas pumped into the pipes, displacing the air within the pipes. A weld bead is laid into the gap and the purge strap is shifted around the circumference of the pipes to allow completion of the weld. The purge strap device is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5354019
Abstract: Apparatus for mounting an electrical component actuated by a rotating spindle (e.g., a potentiometer or a selector switch) having a cross-slide guideway made of two slide components wherein a first slide component is displaceable relative to the second slide component. The second slide component is displaceable relative to the object on which the component is to be supported. The two displacement directions are off-set 90 degrees from each other and extend radially with respect to the axis of rotation of the electrical component.

  • Patent number: 5348798
Abstract: An improved method for forming a hollow core structural member, such as an automotive bumper beam, from moldable plastic sheets, such as fiberglass reinforced plastic sheets, by providing a press having a desired shape on the opposing members of the press, placing opposed sheets in the press with a layer of frozen, meltable material, such as ice, in place between them, forming the sheets into the desired article configuration in the press, removing the formed member from the press, then melting and removing the meltable material from the interior of the formed member.

  • Patent number: 5344440
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for stimulating the growth and healing of living, especially human, tissues, promoting the healing of wounds and skeletal fractures. An electrical apparatus consists of a baseplate, made of lightweight nonconductive material, for encompassing all or a portion of a body member. A multiplicity of generally evenly spaced holes are provided in the baseplate and a probe adapter including a moveable electrically conductive probe is situated within the holes, as desired. An electric contact connects the interior of each adapter and the probe situated therein to a terminal on the baseplate. Each probe is individually adjustable to contact the wearer's body part within the base member regardless configuration of the body part, thus allowing treatment of all or a selected portion of the body part.

  • Patent number: 5339605
Abstract: An improved shrink tunnel having an upper secondary conveyor in spaced relation to a lower main conveyor adapted to compress a wrapped product during an initial period of the product's journey through the shrink tunnel. In the preferred embodiment an outer drive roller is suspended over the main conveyor by an adjustable actuator arm with an inside idle roller being rotatably attached to the outside drive roller. Thus, the weight of the idle roller and side frame bars provide the compression. In operation a wrapped product is delivered to the main conveyor which conveys the product through the shrink tunnel. Prior to entering the shrink tunnel the upper surface of the wrapped product comes in contact with the secondary conveyor. The weight of idle roller and the side frames compress the package. During this time, the shrink wrap on the sides of the package is being shrunk by the heat. Upon leaving the secondary conveyor the shrink wrap on the top and bottom is exposed to the heat and is shrunk.

  • Patent number: 5340378
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for forming metallized iron by direct reduction of particulate iron oxide is disclosed. Spent reducing gas is recycled from the reduction furnace through a cooler-scrubber and a catalyst-containing stoichiometric gas reformer. Upon removing the process gas from the cooler-scrubber, it is contacted with a chlorine dioxide spray, then compressed and cooled, the sulfur compound removed, and the process gas recycled either into the furnace cooling zone, or directly into the reformer, or divided and directed into both uses. Thus, most of the sulfur containing components of the spent reducing gas are removed, thereby reducing the sulfur contamination of the gas reformer catalyst. Reducing sulfur contamination of the gas reformer catalyst improves the overall efficiency of the direct reduction process.

  • Patent number: 5338318
Abstract: A method of dyeing film of polyethylene terephthalate wherein the film is immersed in a dye bath of solvent or dispersion dyes dissolved in a carrier consisting of glycerol triacetate, the dye bath being heated so the film is raised to the glass transition temperature of the film, and the dye and carrier are absorbed into the film. The dye and carrier are removed from the surface of the film by a washing bath, and the film is then heated to remove the carrier absorbed in the film without depreciating the dyestuff or the film.

  • Patent number: 5327697
Abstract: An improved chuck for a bottle capper having a torque trigger with vertically set trigger pins capable of withstanding high torques prior to shearing. Further an apparatus to precisely set the application torque of the capping chuck is provided. This apparatus uses a stem head about which a clamp collar and a scale collar are placed. The clamp collar rides below the scale collar and receives the spring. The scale collar is situated above the clamp collar and provides index markings by which to adjust the clamp collar rotationally around the stem head thereby increasing or decreasing the application torque.

  • Patent number: 5329290
Abstract: A monitor control circuit for driving a monitor, operating at a second pixel frequency, on the basis of a digital image signal having a first pixel frequency. The circuit has a first storage device, constructed as a first in-first out storage device, into which the image signal, having a frequency dependant on the first pixel frequency, can be read by means of a first control device. The circuit further has a video storage device in effective connection with the output of the first storage device. To ensure constant updating of the image signal to be displayed, a second storage device, connected to the video storage device and the first storage device, is adapted for reading data words from the first storage device and writing them into the video storage device in such a manner that the reading of the data words from the first storage device is interrupted when data words are being read from the video storage device.
