Abstract: A tray is adapted to conveniently attach to the siderail of a hospital bed such that when not in use it can be easily collapsed and swung out of the way in depending position from the upper rung of a standard hospital bed siderail.
Abstract: A tape applicator for masking purposes utilizes a pair of frames, one of which can be used singly, which when mounted together enable the application of two parallel rows of tape which are evenly and effectively pressed against the surface to be masked by a pair of specialized applicator heads. The spacing of the two lines of tape is adjustable, and the machine can be modified by the switching of several parts to handle quarter inch or eighth inch wide tape.
Abstract: A hair roller is provided having a generally cylindrical body portion with two end caps which stretch a band of rubber or like resilient material across the surface of the body, the two end caps being rotatable in opposite directions to cause the band to stretch across the body in increasingly tight fashion without substantially displacing the central portions of the elastic, so that the hair thereon is not substantially disturbed.
Abstract: A power transmission is provided characterized by smoothly and continuously variable gear ratios between the input and output shaft by incorporating a no-load restraint means for the ring gear of a ring, planetary and sun gear transmission system, the restraint comprising a wobble plate pump operative in a closed liquid circuit and driven by said ring gear to impose a restraint on same which varies according to an external control of the angle of the wobble plate and also including a second wobble plate pump in the same closed line or loop as the first pump and which is driven by the output shaft and whose liquid displacement capabilities per cycle is determined as a function of the wobble plate angle which may be controlled either manually or by the pressure at the liquid output line from the first pump.
Abstract: A clip and method of using same are provided whereby the angle valve beneath the sink is positively coupled to the flexible connector tube leading to the faucet to prevent the tube from working out of the slip-joint of the angle valve over a period of time.
Abstract: A versatile fluorescent lighting fixture is provided having a housing which will flush mount in either a corner or on a wall or ceiling surface, there being a recessed track in the back into which mounting plates slide. The front of the housing is adapted to accept either a translucent shield for direct lighting or an opaque reflector apparatus spaced somewhat from the housing for indirect lighting.
Abstract: A technique for both cleaning up the crankcase oil changing process and recycling the oil for use as heating oil or, after refining, as lubricating oil, utilizes a shallow pan with a funnel defined on one edge which captures used oil from the engine crankcase, an oil can opener spout which makes a circular hole in the top of the oil can from which the fresh oil is poured into the crankcase after the used oil is drained, and a series of plugs which are inserted into the openings made by the oil can opener spout so that the used crankcase oil can be poured back into the cans the new oil came in by utilization of the special oil drip pan with the funnel extension.
Abstract: An automatic hose clamp is provided particularly for use with fire hoses, and is manually engaged on a fire hose which is subsequently attached to a fire hydrant, there being a trickle flow allowed past the clamp so that the downstream end of the hose, if unconnected to anything, will dissipate this trickle, but upon being connected to the fire truck pumping unit the downstream end fills and exerts back pressure on a specially oriented plate in the clamp, finally resulting in the popping free of the clamp due to the expansion of the hose against the plate so that water is free to flow at this point unobstructed by the clamp. Previously a manually operated clamp was used requiring the presence of a fireman to turn a wheel or otherwise operate the valve actuator to release the clamp once the hose had been connected to the main pump.
Abstract: A simplified paint roller cleaning apparatus is provided wherein an existing paint roller spinner is utilized to insert a paint roller into a container of paint solvent where it is temporarily supported at the bottom against an idler roller. The idler roller spindle extends through a slot in the top of the container and a handle on the spindle permits the idler roller and spinner to be compressed together as the spinner is actuated, causing the rollers to rotate together to clean the paint roller. Then the solvent is poured out, the idler roller is tipped aside and the paint roller is dry-spun in the container to expel excess moisture.
Abstract: The present invention integrates the entire body of musical knowledge relating to key signatures, basic chord structure, the logical progression of chords within a key signature according to the cycle of fourths, identification of the root tone both of scales and of chords, the replication of chord and scale structure over the keys of a piano or the like for each consecutive octave, and the display of the most suitable inversion to use in any particular instance for a particular chord in the selected key signature.
Abstract: A contoured sheet is providing having slits adjacent to corners thereof to permit the person making up the bed to reach through the slit to elevate the respective corner of the bed subsequent to which he can more easily pull the contoured corner over the corner of the sheet.
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for attachment to the headrest of a dental chair which incorporates audio speakers connected to a suitable audio source and tube means conveying nitrous oxide or other analgesic gas to a nosepiece positioned on the patient whereby the patient is made comfortable with stereo music and "laughing gas" in a convenient fashion utilizing a minimum of dangling wires and tubes and cumbersome equipment.
Abstract: An apparatus for melting solids which is particularly designed to melt tar billets without overheating and thus causing pyrolysis of the solid tar. The apparatus in its principal embodiment utilizes a solid horizontal plate having a plurality of parallel ridges separated by parallel fluid conducting channels, the plate being heated from beneath by a special burner arrangement and causes the tar to melt and then drain into a collector trough rather than remain adjacent the heating surface. The apparatus utilizes vertical feed tar billets which are forced against the melting plate under action of gravity with or without auxillary pressure applying means, and a specialized burner, manifold and stack structure provide for proper removal of burned gases while allowing the easy loading of the vertically stacked tar billets.
Abstract: A method is provided which permanently embeds a fire retardant such as diammonium phsophate into wood shingles, wood framing members or other wood members by means of blasting a special slurry of the fire retardant into the body of the wood with an airless spray gun, or alternatively soaking or dipping the wood in a softening solution and then emersing it in the fire retardant slurry which is subsequently pressurized to over 100 pounds per square inch, in either case the diammonium phosphate granules being embedded into the wood where they are protected from being leached at by rainfall and the like by a nonsoluable, nonvolatile carrier liquid.
Abstract: A jig is provided for use in supporting objects from which fingerprints are to be removed or lifted, the operative mechanism comprising a plurality of pivoted arms which can be made to expand or contract to engage a bottle, glass or the like from the inside or the outside, this movement being effected by means of rotating a junction collar to which the arms are pivoted at their inside end about a central shaft, advancing the collar toward or away from a guide disk. A stand is provided into which the shaft is inserted and in which it may be rotated about its longitudinal axis or removed, and a second shaft having a frustoconical stopper on the end may be used in the stand alternatively to the more complicated, expanding-arm structure described above.
