Abstract: A multi-frequency internal antenna apparatus (10) for a clamshell type electronic device includes a flexible circuit (20) that electrically couples circuitry between the main housing (12) and flip housing (14). A conductive element (36) is disposed on the main housing (12) and tuned to be electrically resonant above the operating frequencies of the electronic device. The conductive element (36) is disposed in proximity to the flip housing (14) in the open position and is electrically coupled at a high impedance point to the flexible circuit (20) and subsequently to the circuitry in the flip housing. When the movable flip housing is in the open position and being held by a user, the circuitry in the movable flip housing forms a secondary conductive element providing dipole characteristics that tunes the combined conductive elements to the operating frequencies of the electronic device.

Abstract: A serial bus (106) communication protocol communicates data packets. When priority messages are identified, transmission of a data packet (302) being transmitted, if any, is interrupted. The priority message (402) is transmitted. Thereafter, transmission of an interrupted data packet is completed.
Abstract: A speaker system for an electronic device includes a keypad with keys, a housing with first spaces for receiving respective ones of the keys, and a flat speaker located under the keypad. The keys and the first spaces are sized such that there are gaps between the keys and the housing when the keys are received within the first spaces. The speaker is co-planar with the keypad and when sound is projected from the speaker, it is emitted through the gaps between the keys and the housing.
Abstract: A method of determining a location relevant to a user of a communication device is provided. The method involves determining general location information of the location relevant to the user and determining a list of location parameters from the general location information. Specific location of the communication device is also determined. The location relevant to the user is then determined by comparing the list of location parameters with the specific location information. Systems and programs for using the method are also provided.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method of scheduling the time of transmission of one or more GPRS paging blocks in a cell of a cellular communications system, the paging blocks initiating communication to a mobile terminal in a cellular communications system, comprising calculating the transmission time of the paging block, or the transmission times of the paging blocks, in dependence on:
(i) the number N determining which control channel carries the paging blocks of a given terminal;
(ii) the number M of GPRS paging blocks on the control channel;
(iii) the number KC of control channels in the cell of the cellular communications system; and
(iv) the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) number of the mobile terminal.
The scheduling of the time of transmission of the one or more GPRS paging blocks in the cell of the cellular communications system may even out the distribution over time of the transmissions.
