  • Patent number: 8293523
Abstract: An agitator for a fermenter, a fermenter and method of operating a fermenter are provided. The agitator has an agitator shaft which stands roughly vertically in the fermenter. Because of this, the substrate in the fermenter is circulated in horizontal planes. This allows the formation of several layered decomposition zones. In addition, the agitator is preferably designed so that it may be removed upwards from the fermenter during continuing operation. This means that it is not necessary to empty the fermenter for maintenance work on the agitator.

  • Patent number: 8286362
Abstract: A device for measuring a seal gap created between a moving part and a mounting part of a vehicle body includes a base member, a scale member and a retaining member. The scale member is mounted to the base member and is moveable between an extended position and a retracted measured position. An indicator is provided on the base member for reading the scale member. The retaining member is coupled to the base member and engages the scale member for retaining the scale member in both the extended and measured positions relative to the base member. The base member is installed in the seal gap and is removably connected to one of the vehicle body parts. The scale member is moved to the extended position. The moving part is then closed relative to the mounting part, and the other of the vehicle body parts engages the scale member and moves the scale member to the measured position. The indicator together with the scale member provides a dimension of the seal gap.

  • Patent number: 8287473
Abstract: A device for assisting a user's motion in an appropriate rhythm by bringing a user's motion rhythm close to its target rhythm while harmonizing the motion rhythms of different parts of the user's body and a rhythm for assisting the user's motion is provided. The inventive walking assist device generates a first oscillator which attains mutual entrainment with a first motion oscillator in such a way as to reflect a natural angular velocity. A new natural angular velocity is set based on a phase difference between the first motion oscillator and the first oscillator. Further, a second oscillator which oscillates in a rhythm reflecting the natural angular velocity is generated based on a second motion oscillator. An assist oscillator is then generated based on the second oscillator, and a variable force responsive to the assist oscillator is applied to the user's body.

  • Patent number: 8284404
Abstract: A method and device for measuring trace levels of particles in an air sample is described. A device operating in a gradiometer configuration with two cavities built from a monolithic structure and utilizing a single probe laser, provides common mode subtraction of acoustic, vibrational, laser intensity and other noise sources, which allows sensitivity more closely approaching the quantum limit. Differential measurements between the two cavities occur simultaneously, which reduces errors due to cavity drift. Absorptive gradiometry can therefore provide noise immune detection for trace gasses, including broad linewidth absorbers where frequency-noise immune schemes are not practical. Differential measurements can be used for background subtraction, sensing vapor plum gradients and determining vapor plume propagation direction.
