Patent number: 6000726Abstract: A multi-layered adhesive label suitable for processing through a laser printer includes a substantially tear resistant layer with a printable layer permanently adhered to one side of the tear resistant layer. An adhesive layer is permanently adhered to the other side of the tear resistant layer. The label can comprise two discrete portions. Each label portion can have a permanent adhesive layer or a non-permanent adhesive layer. Thus, one label portion can be removably adhered to a receiving surface while the other portion is permanently adhered to the same receiving surface.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1996Date of Patent: December 14, 1999Inventor: Christopher C. Patent number: 5991490Abstract: An optical waveguide of the present invention includes: an optical material; an optical waveguide layer formed in the optical material; and a cladding layer formed on a surface of the optical waveguide layer, wherein the optical waveguide layer is capable of guiding a light beam having a wavelength of .lambda.1 and a light beam having a wavelength of .lambda.2 (.lambda.1>.lambda.2) therethrough, and a refractive index and a thickness of the cladding layer are determined so as to satisfy a guiding condition for the light beam having the wavelength of .lambda.2 and a cutoff condition for the light beam having the wavelength of .lambda.1.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kiminori Mizuuchi, Tatuo Itou, Sigeki Ohnishi, Kazuhisa Yamamoto

Patent number: 5951674Abstract: Object-code compatibility is provided among VLIW processors with different organizations. The object-code can also be executed by sequential processors, thus providing compatibility with scalar and superscalar processors, A mechanism is provided which allows representing VLIW programs in an implementation-independent manner. This mechanism relies on instruction cache (I-cache) reload/access logic which incorporates implementation-dependent features into a VLIW program. In this way, programs are represented in main memory in an implementation-independent manner, the implementation-specific aspects are introduced as part of the instruction cache reload/fetch processes, and the simplicity in instruction dispatch logic that is characteristic of VLIW processors is preserved. The foregoing allows for object-code compatibility among VLIW processors with different organizations. Also provided is a mechanism and an apparatus for the interpretation of tree-instructions by a computer system based on a VLIW processor.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1996Date of Patent: September 14, 1999Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Jaime Humberto Moreno

Patent number: 5344499Abstract: The electro-migration of electrode metal takes place under an elevated temperature condition in amorphous silicon devices having conventional PI-type, NI-type, or PIN-type hydrogenated amorphous silicon layered structures, which substantially degrades the electrical characteristics of the devices. This problem is solved by forming a chemically inactive layer consisting mainly of amorphous silicon oxide on the surface of amorphous silicon layer by an aqueous washing and drying process, to establish electrical contacts through the chemically inactive layer between the hydrogenated amorphous silicon layer and either a collector electrode or a transparent electrode. This structure not only prevents such electromigration of electrode metal, but it also allows a greater freedom for choosing a material for the collector electrode.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1992Date of Patent: September 6, 1994Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Teruhisa Kanbara, Shigeo Kondo

Patent number: 5142348Abstract: A lateral thyristor is provided which includes a semiconductor substrate of a first conductivity type, an epitaxial layer of a second conductivity type formed on the semiconductor substrate, an anode diffusion layer of the first conductivity type formed in the epitaxial layer, a gate diffusion layer of the first conductivity type formed in the epitaxial layer, and a buried layer of the second conductivity type formed below the anode diffusion layer and extending between the semiconductor substrate and the epitaxial layer, wherein there is a region directly below the anode diffusion layer where the anode diffusion layer and the buried layer do not overlap each other, when the lateral thyristor is looked down upon in a direction perpendicular to the principal surface of the semiconductor substrate.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1990Date of Patent: August 25, 1992Assignee: Matsushita Electronics CorporationInventors: Manabu Imahashi, Hironori Kamiya

Patent number: 5097328Abstract: A remote sensing system suitable for use in businesses which include queues and/or servers has a camera which captures successive images of the area to be monitored. The sensing system includes one or more video cameras which generate an array of pixel samples representing an image of the area. Sub-areas of interest in the image are defined by selectively illuminating each of the sub-areas during an initialization phase. During operation, the system analyzes pixel data from only the defined sub-areas. A combination of blob analysis and motion analysis is used to determine if a server is on-duty and present at his station, and if he is serving a customer. The system also maintains a count of the number of people waiting in the queue to be served. This information is used to generate displays directing waiting customers to the next available server and to inform newly arriving customers of their expected waiting time.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1990Date of Patent: March 17, 1992Inventor: Robert B.
