  • Patent number: 4476975
Abstract: A conveyor system is disclosed which is adapted to be suspended from an overhead monorail and which includes a plurality of carriages each having an open longitudinal portion extending therethrough. Each of the carriages interconnect one to another in a single file fashion so as to be moved as a unit below and along the overhead monorail. The conveyor belt is supported and carried by the carriages. An improved power transmission device is connected to at least one of the carriages for moving the plurality of carriages along the overhead monorail. The power transmission device means includes a pair of transversely spaced apart rotatable drive wheels which are drivably coupled to and which support a pair of transversely spaced apart power units. The power units are pivotally connected below the drive wheels. A hydraulic system is provided for pivoting the power units toward and away from one another to maintain the drive wheels in traction relationship with the overhead monorail.

  • Patent number: 4429752
Abstract: A pneumatic motor for rock drills and the like having a reciprocating piston with valves at its opposite ends for valving motive air to the piston head from both ends of the cylinder. Large receivers are provided near the respective valves to accommodate availability of air on demand from the valves and to dampen pressure fluctuations. One of the receivers is connected to an external source of fluid under pressure; while the two receivers are interconnected by tubing external to the pneumatic motor itself. This permits the cylinder for the piston to comprise a simple tube provided with exhaust ports only. Additionally, exhaust air and oil from an air motor, which rotates the rock drill, are directed into the area between the lower end of the reciprocating piston and a striking bar for the drill rod to lubricate the reciprocating parts.

  • Patent number: 4420277
Abstract: An apparatus for bolting the roof of an underground mine is disclosed comprising a mobile frame, a boom extending from the frame and a housing provided at the end of the frame. The housing supports an upwardly extending stinger, a drilling mechanism including a drill centralizer having a central bore therethrough and a passageway in communication with the central bore, a device for delivering a container of roof bolting anchoring media through the passageway and through the drill centralizer and into a drilled hole, a device for indexing a roof bolt into alignment with the drilled hole and a spinner for driving the roof bolt into the drilled hole. The present invention also provides a method for bolting the roof of an underground mine comprising the steps of stinging a housing against the roof of the mine, moving a drill centralizer into communication with the roof and drilling a hole in the roof.

  • Patent number: 4415024
Abstract: A heat exchanger assembly has an elongated shell provided with fluid inlet and fluid outlet openings. An elongated bundle assembly is received within the shell. The bundle assembly has a plurality of elongated tubes extending generally longitudinally and a plurality of generally parallel fin plates which are transversely oriented. The bundle assembly has a top sheet and a bottom sheet. The bundle assembly support is interposed between the bottom sheet and the shell. A baffle is provided in the form of an elongated plate extending generally diagonally between the top sheet of the bundle assembly and the shell. In a preferred form, the baffle plate is provided with an underlying seal which is interposed between the baffle plate and the top sheet and has an upper edge which is of generally complementary curvature with respect to the adjacent portions of the shell and may take the form of a portion of a sine wave.

  • Patent number: 4387801
Abstract: An improved endless flexible conveying element is set forth. The flexible conveying element is of the type adapted to be mounted on a carrier and to conform with a generally curvilinear endless path for orbital traverse of such endless path. The conveying element has an elongated resiliently deformable portion which includes a longitudinally extending portion located laterally intermediate the longitudinal extending side portions thereof. The resiliently deformable portion of said conveying element laterally flexes to permit the belt to follow laterally curvilinear portions of the endless path in an upright position. The resiliently deformable portion has a tendency to spontaneously assume a natural form thereof, which is configured such that the resiliently deformable portion, when mounted on the carrier, is deformed from its natural form in a manner to provide in the side portions a condition of relative longitudinal tension with respect to the central portion.

  • Patent number: 4365682
Abstract: A suspension system for the operator compartment of a mine vehicle suitable for working in underground mines having low head room. A pair of vertically extending guide tracks are rigidly secured to a frame member of the mine vehicle. Each of the track members has associated with it a roller bracket constructed so that all moving contact between the roller bracket and the guide track which guides it is a rolling contact. Each roller bracket includes a projecting stud member of substantial construction which passes through an opening in the rear wall of the operator compartment, the two stud members providing the only points of support for the operator compartment. The operator compartment normally rests on and slides over the floor of the mine and by this arrangement is free to move vertically up and down as the elevation of the mine floor changes or when the bottom of the operator compartment encounters obstacles or debris on the mine floor.
