Abstract: A solar energy concentrating and collecting arrangement and method in which a semi-cylindrical oblong concave reflector/concentrator forms the roof of a house, school or other building, particularly a heat utilization building. A collector is movably supported in spaced relation above and along the length of the oblong roof/reflector, for pivotal movement to a zone of maximum confluence of solar energy rays reflected from the roof reflector as a result of variations of sun path during the various parts of the year and also to further accommodate each day's movement of the sun. Movement of the collector is by pivotal movement about an axis parallel with the center of curvature or curvatures of the roof/reflector and disposed adjacent the roof/reflector.
Abstract: A cartridge magazine having a slidably removable bottom cover which slides on a pair of flange slide rails on the bottom end of the hollow main cartridge-holding body of the magazine, to enable assembly and removal of the cover. Cam stops and end stops are formed on elastically flexible opposite side walls of the body, and are engagable in releasable locking relation by inturned lock lips which ride in sliding relation on the flange slide rails. The lock lip means are movable over the cam lock stops by depression of the flexible outer walls during assembly and removal of the cover, being cam depressed during assembly and being positively manually depressed for disassembly removal. A cartridge feed spring acts in conjunction with the curvature of the main body and a key tab on the bottom cover to exert a small removal-acting lateral force on the cover.
Abstract: A structural solar energy collection and transfer arrangement and method, and method of assembly, including an insulating light-transmitting honeycomb sandwich array and a lateral fluid flow solar energy collection and heat transfer honeycomb sandwich array, the lateral fluid flow honeycomb sandwich array having dark, preferably non-gloss or dull surfaced, honeycomb walls and bottom surface for solar energy absorption and transfer to a fluid, preferably a liquid, passed laterally through fluid passageway openings formed in the honeycomb walls. Solar energy is absorbed and transferred to a flowing fluid, by passing solar light rays through the insulating honeycomb sandwich array and into contact with the dark walls and base of the facially interconnected heat transfer honeycomb sandwich array, and passing the heat transfer fluid through the lateral openings formed in the honeycomb cell walls and thereby flowing such fluid through adjacent honeycomb cells.
Abstract: A bed having a torque-compensated parallelogram lifting arm arrangement. The bed has a subframe vertically adjustable by the parallelogram lifting arm arrangement and thereby retains a level relationship at all height adjustment levels. An articulated mattress support surface is provided, which is formed by articulated pivotally interconnected head or back, seat, thigh and leg sections mounted on the level vertically adjustable subframe. The seat section is double-pivoted, and enables simple and effective Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg positioning independent of any position of the height-adjustable supporting subframe. The seat, thigh, and head sections are articulated by cam and cam follower drive arrangements. Selective pivot defeat means are provided to enable selective pivotal lowering of the thigh and head or back sections without pivoting the seat section, and independent of the supporting subframe position, enabling simple and effective hyperextension positioning.
Abstract: An impact nailing arrangement having a nail with integral pointed target-penetration and securing forward section, rear hammer section, and medial compression shear section, the forward section having a threaded object-securing surface rearwardly of its pointed forward target-securing end. The nail is propelled into a target by a percussion-ignited propellant charge, and the forward section is secured by initial point penetration and subsequent compression shear of the medial shear section to enable the hammer section to impart a secondary securing impact to the forward section.
Abstract: A cutting torch arrangement is disclosed, including a thermal bar having a metal burner pipe with rod-like metal elements therein and gas passageways formed between these elements. A shroud/ shield is disposed around the thermal bar, with an open shroud/shield end laterally spaced from the thermal bar. A spring-biased feeder assembly and shroud/shield biasing assembly is provided for yieldably urging the thermal bar forward within the shroud/shield and for retaining the shroud/shield against a target. A cluster arrangment of thermal bars is also provided.
