Abstract: A toothed rack (22) disclosed has a toothed forming face (24) of a novel construction for forming splines (42) in a thin-wall sleeve (36) of a power transmission member (28) by meshing of the rack and a toothed mandrel (26) with the sleeve therebetween to form the splines. The toothed forming face has leading, intermediate, and trailing tooth groups (40a, 40b, 40c) that perform the splining. The pitch line tooth thickness of the leading tooth group is at least equal to and preferably greater than the pitch line tooth thickness of the trailing tooth group which has an addendum of a greater height than the leading tooth group. The teeth of the intermediate tooth group have an addendum height that is shorter than the teeth of the trailing tooth group and preferably equal to the addendum height of the leading tooth group. The pitch line tooth thickness of the leading tooth group is equal to and preferably greater than the pitch line tooth thickness of the intermediate tooth group.

Abstract: A controller (10) for the traction motor of an industrial truck comprises an actuator spool (56) which is axially shiftable by a manual selector member (12) for actuating a plurality of control switches (44,46,48). Detents (86,78,82,84) hold the spool in forward, reverse or park positions and a return spring (66) urges the spool toward neutral position. The actuator spool (56) is adapted for rotational movement about its axis for automatic release of the detents and return of the spool to neutral position. A seat occupancy detector (18) is actuated when the driver leaves the seat and imparts rotational movement to the spool which releases the detents and returns the spool to neutral. The controller is also adapted to provide manual and automatic control of a parking brake (6). Then the selector member is in the park position, cams (184) on the actuator spool actuates a control switch (48) to apply the vehicle brake.
Abstract: An addressable transducer is disclosed for use in monitoring the values of physical conditions in connection with long electric lines, such as telephone cables. Multiple transducers are connected across a single pair of transmission lines which extend from a central station and supply a DC voltage to the transducers. Each transducer has an assigned address in the form of a binary code. An address signal is transmitted on the transmission lines by pulse width modulation of the line voltage. An address detector converts the address to a binary code and the transmitted address is compared with the assigned address. When the assigned address is received, a variable frequency current sink oscillator is turned on and connected across the lines. The oscillator has a frequency determined by a sensor responsive to the physical condition being measured and modulates the line current at that frequency.
Abstract: A loader (10) for a forming machine (12) is disclosed as including a horizontally elongated transfer beam (46) supported by a linkage (52) and moved by a dual output cam unit (62). A first output (64) of the cam unit (62) is connected to an intermediate portion (50) of the beam (46) and a second output (66) thereof is connected to the linkage (52) to cooperatively move the beam (46) vertically and horizontally in a closed path such that workpieces (30) are moved into alignment with a work station (22) of the machine (12) for forming and out of alignment therewith after the forming is completed. The cam unit (62) has first and second cams (68,72) that move associated first and second followers (200,224) to move the first and second outputs (64,66) which respectively actuate horizontal and vertical movement of the transfer beam (46).
Abstract: A method and quench unit (10,10a,10b) disclosed provide tempering of a heated glass sheet by impinging pressurized air against its opposite surfaces while within a chamber (18) at super-atmospheric pressure. An enclosure (16) of the quench unit defines the chamber (18) and is preferably pressurized by the spent quenching air which is delivered through opposed blastheads (12). The spent quenching air is removed from the chamber (18) to maintain the air pressure below a predetermined level. An air supply system (24) disclosed cools and pressurizes the spent quenching air received from the chamber (18) and then feeds this air back to the blastheads (12) in a recirculating fashion for impingement with the glass sheet in the chamber.
Abstract: A closure clamp is disclosed for use with food bags, such as potato chip bags. It comprises a pair of clamp members in hinged construction and a torsion spring for holding the members together and applying a clamping force. Each clamp member includes a jaw, a handle and a fulcrum member and the spring includes a torsion rod disposed between the fulcrum member and the free ends of the handles. The jaws are bar-like structures and are long enough to span a large part of the width of a food bag.
Abstract: A controller (10) for the traction motor of an industrial truck comprises an actuator spool (56) which is axially shiftable by a manual selector member (12) for actuating a plurality of control switches (44,46,48). Detent means (86,78,82,84) hold the spool in forward, reverse or park positions and a return spring (66) urges the spool toward neutral position. The actuator spool (56) is adapted for rotational movement about its axis for automatic release of the detent means and return of the spool to neutral position. A seat occupancy detector (18) is actuated when the driver leaves the seat and imparts rotational movement to the spool which releases the detent means and returns the spool to neutral. The controller is also adapted to provide manual and automatic control of a parking brake (6). When the selector member is in the park position, cam means (184) on the actuator spool actuates a control switch (48) to apply the vehicle brake.
Abstract: Arrow fletchings (42, 102) disclosed have curved vanes (50, 114) inclined inwardly in a rearward direction to provide pockets (54, 118) for restricting air flow while allowing vane flexing in a manner that moderates drag in response to wind changes. One fletching embodiment (42) is preferably made by plastic extrusion and a subsequent heat forming process and includes a vane (50) whose inner portion projects radially from its foot (44) and whose outer portion define its curved pocket (54). Another fletching embodiment (102) made from sheet plastic includes a vane (114) that projects tangentially from the arrow shaft on which its foot (104) is mounted and is curved to define the pocket (118) that restricts air flow. A fixture (68) for heat forming the pocket of the one fletching embodiment (42) and a method for making the other fletching embodiment (102) are also disclosed.
Abstract: A security cabinet with a coin operated key-lock has the entire locking system including the coin box and a tamper detector alarm mounted inside the cabinet door. The lock cylinder of the cabinet key-lock is mounted on the latch mechanism and accessable at the front panel of the door. The lock cylinder can be removed and replaced by use of a master key with the door in a locked condition. The key-lock has a cam for operating the latch bolt and a coin detector, also mounted in the door, includes a detaining lever for blocking movement of the latch bolt unless a valid coin is deposited. The coin box is also mounted in the door. A rear panel of the door can be opened for servicing of the latch mechanism, coin box and the tamper detector.
Abstract: A cornice lighting fixture (10) disclosed is designed for use on public transit vehicles (12) and includes a unitary member (20) defining a light housing (22) and a trim panel (24) that extends horizontally and vertically from the light housing. A light cover (28) encloses a fluorescent tube (26) mounted within the housing by an electrical connector support (84). The unitary member defining the housing and trim panel is preferably made as a pultrusion from resin and glass fibers so as to have an elongated shape of a uniform cross-section with the light housing defining an upper and inward longitudinal margin of the fixture and with an outer mounting flange (70) of the trim panel defining a lower and outward longitudinal margin of the fixture. Upon mounting of the fixture, the housing and the trim panel cooperate to partially define an air duct (30) for carrying heated or cooled air.
Abstract: A glass sheet bending system (10) is disclosed as including a compressed gas bending unit (28) located above a horizontal conveyor (22) on which glass sheets are heated within a furnace (12) of the system. A downwardly facing curved surface (26) of a holder (24) above conveyor (22) receives a heated glass sheet from the conveyor for bending. Compressed gas fed through outlets (34) of the bending unit (28) provides inclined gas jets directed in a generally perpendicular relationship to the holder surface (26) with a sufficient intensity to bend the glass sheet on the holder (24) to the curved shape of its surface. The conveyor (22) of the system is preferably of the roller type including spaced rolls (36) and the bending unit (28) is disclosed as including a pair of supply conduits (48) extending upwardly between the rolls to supply compressed gas to a pair of delivery conduits (52) which define the outlets (34).
Abstract: A hair-enhancing cap including netting comprised of a tough wire-like elastic synthetic material and including an outer member, a plurality of supporting members secured to the outer member and a plurality of inner members secured between the outer member and the supporting members. The netting of the cap defines a plurality of openings in the cap and includes an elastic fastener secured to the outer member which holds the outer member under tension. The cap also includes natural or synthetic hair secured to the netting of the cap. The cap is positioned on the head over the existing hair and conforms to the natural contour of the head being held in place by the tension in the outer member. The existing hair is drawn through the openings defined by the netting of the cap and combined with the hair secured to the netting thereby obscuring the netting from sight beneath the combination of the existing hair and the hair secured to the netting.
Abstract: A hydraulic control circuit (10) for operating a loader (12) of a machine for splining an annular thin-wall sleeve of a power transmission member is disclosed as including valving (116) for communicating supply and return conduits (102,116) with load and unload cylinders (14,16) to provide loading and unloading movements. Load and unload valves (118,120) of the valving have load cycle positions where the load cylinder drives both the loading and unloading members (26,28) which clamp a thin-wall member during such movement to provide loading thereof for splining. In an unload cycle position of the valves, both the load and unload cylinders are hydraulically driven in an unloading direction opposite to the loading movement. The loading and unloading members (26,28) are moved away from each other by their associated cylinders in an index cycle of the valves to permit indexing of a load table (30) under the operation of an index valve (162) of the circuit.

The mix is then pumped at a predetermined rate, to blending means. Abstract: In a disc brake assembly, one braking pad is associated operatively with a piston, which moves in a cylinder, and another braking pad is associated with a caliper, which is movable together with the cylinder. A first biasing means retracts the braking pads from opposite faces of a disc upon release of hydraulic pressure from a piston. A second biasing means retracts the caliper upon release of such pressure. A drag part, which grips a shaft frictionally, is able to move axially along the shaft, if the force being transmitted by the caliper upon application of such pressure exceeds the force required to energize the second biasing means, so as to compensate for wear of the second braking pad. A limiting means, which cooperates with the drag part so as to limit retraction of the caliper to a fixed distance.
Abstract: Thin-wall spline forming apparatus (20) disclosed includes toothed forming racks (24) having associated tooth pitch lines (48) and a toothed mandrel (22) having a tooth pitch circle (50) that is tangent to the forming rack pitch lines and of a diameter equal to the mean diameter of thin-wall splines (44) formed by meshing the rack and mandrel teeth with a thin-wall sleeve (38) of a power transmission member mounted on the mandrel between the meshing teeth. A mandrel drive gear (60) drives the mandrel in coordination with the forming racks (24) and is driven by a pair of drive racks (62) mounted for movement with the forming racks. Best results are achieved when the mandrel (22) has the same number of teeth (40) as the number of teeth (64) of the drive gear (60) and with the mandrel and drive gear teeth aligned with each other.

Abstract: An adjustable socket (10) for rotatively driving bolts and nuts is disclosed as including a plurality of jaws (18) mounted on a rotatable driver (16) for quick action adjustment between fully opened and fully closed positions upon rotation of an adjuster (22) no more than one revolution. Each jaw has an inclined camming surface (28) that is slidably engaged by a jaw positioner (20) upon axial movement thereof in response to rotation of the adjuster so as to provide radial adjustment of the jaw positions. A spring (30) biases the jaws in an outward radial direction into engagement with the positioner. The jaw positioner comprises a sleeve (20) which has apertures (62) that receive the jaws upon outward movement. Camming surfaces (64) on the sleeve respectively adjacent the apertures (62) engage the jaws (18) to prevent outward jaw movement.
