Abstract: A semi-finished composite material for the manufacture of buoyancy products and related products. The semi-finished composite material includes a plurality of layer of elastic and flexible waterproof material with a specific gravity substantially less than that of water, fastening means adaptable for associating the layers to each other so as to form a plurality of air filled spaces by consecutive ones of the fastening means between adjacent layers, wherein the fastening means of a plurality of quiltings spaced from each other so as to form the air filled spaces with the plurality of layers including the air spaces adapted to being further insertable between a lining and a coating.
Abstract: An electronic interlock for locking a file cabinet (10, 100) and for limiting the number of drawers (14, 114) to be accessed at any given time. An input keyboard (20, 120) receives an input code to be compared with a prestored access code. If the codes do not match, an unlock signal is not produced. If the input code matches the access code, a processor (28, 148) renders the storage assembly (10, 110) accessible. The processor (28, 128) will receive a drawer selection number from the input keyboard (20, 120) user and will unlock a lock (16, 116) associated with the selected drawer (14, 114). Sensors (34, 134) sense the position of the drawers (14, 114) and disable the processor (28, 128) when one of the drawers (14, 114) is in the open position.

Abstract: A rowing simulator including a frame, a seat slidably mounted on the frame, a pair of adjustable foot rests, and, on each side of the frame, a rotatably mounted flywheel, a driven wheel secured to the flywheel, a rotatably mounted drive wheel, and connector means interconnecting the drive wheel to the driven wheel. An oar is pivotally connected to a rotatable pivot linked to a first universal coupling. The latter is connected to a drive shaft which, in turn, is connected to a second universal coupling connected to the drive wheel.
Abstract: The present application relates to a method of operating an internal combustion engine during combustion process that makes it possible to breake the increase of the gas pressure at the beginning of combustion, and partially to replace it by a lengthened substantially isobaric process, i.e., a process in which the combustion pressure keeps nearly steady. In this way, the combustion rate and the variation of the combustion chamber in volume can be optimally synchronized for improving the engine operation.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for blow-molding hollow articles. The blow-molding apparatus includes a carrousel mounted to rotate within a support frame. The carrousel carries four molds around a circular mold path. Two blow-molding work stations are disposed next to the mold path in fixed positions relative to the frame. The carrousel is indexed to cause each mold to pause by each work station one time during each carrousel revolution. The molds pause by each work station to allow blow-molding operations to be performed in conjunction with each mold at each work station. At one blow-molding work station, located at the 12:00 position of the mold path, an extruder injects parison into each mold. At the other work station, located in the 9:00 position of the mold path, a take-out mechanism extracts blow molded articles from the molds and places them upright on a conveyor.
Abstract: A sealing arrangement for sealing overlapped edge portions of laminates folded onto a support member. The arrangement includes a pressure pad assembly and a drive member. An elastomeric disk is retained compressed between the drive member and the pressure pad assembly. A drive unit serves to extend the drive member to thereby urge the pressure pad via the elastomeric disk into pressure sealing engagement with the overlapped laminates on the support member.
Abstract: A sensor method and apparatus for an optical wheel alignment machine utilizes one or more light sources, such as lasers, to project a laser line or other shaped light onto various locations about the sidewall of a tire undergoing measurement. The sensor includes a video camera or other light responsive receiver and a optical system that combines the reflected laser lines into a single image that is received by the camera. The optical system also rotates one or more of the reflected laser lines so that all of the reflected portions have the same general orientation upon entering the camera. The camera outputs a video data stream that is indicative of the image. The sensor has an electronic circuit that analyzes this video data stream in real time to determine the location in the image of a preselected feature of each of the laser lines. The circuit then outputs coordinate data indicative of the location of this feature.
Abstract: A process for the production of a rigid multi-layer composite articles (20) prepared from reacting inter alia a sheet of an open cell foam material (22) impregnated with a binder resin, such as isocyanate resin, to fill the cells of the foam material (22) and a polymerization catalyst to cause the reaction of isocyanate and form isocyanurate linkages, urethane linkages, urea linkages, trimer linkages, biuret linkages, and/or allophante linkages to render the composite article (20) rigid, and having a layer of reinforcing fibers, such as glass fibers, completely (24) or partially (25) impregnated by the binder resin affixed to a surface of the foam material (22) by the binder resin. Fasteners (27) formed of a thermoplastic material are provided having an appropriate adhesion surface. The adhesion surface of each of the fasteners (27) is melted by any of the well known techniques such as spin welding, etc.
Abstract: A method for securing a pour spout fitment to a thermoplastic-coated container, wherein at least a surface of a pour spout fitment is heated remotely by a suitable heating mechanism, to a predetermined temperature. When the heated fitment surface is applied to a selected surface of an erected, thermoplastic-coated container, the heat energy is transferred to the latter surface to an extent capable of activating the thermoplastic coating thereon. Upon cooling, the fitment and the container surface are bonded together, without the need for a back-up or support mechanism, such as a mandrel or anvil.
Abstract: An improved electric shift transfer case system (10) and electronic control circuit (16) therefor utilizes a microprocessor (73), interface circuit (72), and motor drive circuit (70) to control energization of a direct current electric shift motor (58) that is used to switch between drive modes in the transfer case (14) of a full or part-time four wheel drive vehicle. The motor drive circuit (70) includes four switching elements, such as transistors (74-77). The first and second switching elements connect respective first and second ones of the two motor terminals (58a,58b) to a supply voltage and the third and fourth switching elements connect the first and second motor terminals (58a,58b), respectively, to ground. The switching elements (74-77) each have a conductive state and non-conductive state selectable by a command input that is coupled to and controlled by data outputs of the microprocessor (73).

Abstract: A periscopic telemicroscope for spectacles mounts over the periphery of one of the spectacle lenses and extends behind and towards the central axis of the spectacle lens to provide a high level of magnification while maintaining a cosmetically acceptable appearance. The telemicroscope has upper and lower housings with the upper housing holding an objective lens and a mirror and the lower housing holding a divergent lens and a prism. The mirror is oriented to reflect light received from the objective lens downward towards the divergent lens. The prism is oriented to reflect the light received from the divergent lens so that it exits the telemicroscope towards the wearer's eye and can be viewed by upwards rotation of the eye. Focusing is provided by a lever that is pivotally mounted on the upper housing and that cooperatively engages a guide pin which extends from the lower housing through a cam slot in the lever to move the lower housing toward and away from the central axis of the spectacle lens.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing laminated rotor cores in which lamina thickness variations are compensated for without disturbing the relative alignment of lamina shaft holes throughout the rotor core. The rotor core includes several truing laminas which are rotated to compensate for the lamina thickness variations and which include a central opening larger than the lamina shaft holes. The enlarged central opening in the truing laminas prevents overlap between the central opening and the shaft holes after rotation in spite of a lack of concentricity of the lamina shaft holes and central openings with respect to the laminas.
Abstract: A pulse width modulated solenoid purge valve for an on board fuel vapor recovery system of an automotive vehicle is operated by a solenoid that has a pole piece and armature that are shaped to operate at high frequencies. More specifically, the pole piece and the armature have an air gap interface that is defined by a protrusion of one that always intrudes into a recess of the other by a substantial amount to reduce response time of the armature and permit operation of the solenoid at the high frequencies.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for multi-channel control of a multiple input, multiple output, servo-driven plant utilizes finite impulse response (FIR) filters to model the inverse of the plant. Each channel includes a servo FIR filter that generates a servo command to drive the plant's servo controller, a valve current FIR filter that bypasses the PID stage of the servo controller to avoid undesirable effects of the PID loop, and a cross FIR filter for each of the remaining channels that compensates for physical coupling in the plant between the channels. The servo FIR filter is calculated by an adaption routine that involves applying an identification signal to the plant, applying the plant's response to the filter and then updating the filter's coefficients using the error that exists between the identification signal and the filter output.
