  • Patent number: 8017900
Abstract: An apparatus for photon counting is disclosed that comprises a sensor element (5) comprising a photon detector (8) and a capacitance (2) for applying a potential difference across the detector (8). The apparatus also comprises switching circuitry (6) for connecting the sensor element (5) operatively to a voltage source (4) during a refresh period to charge the capacitance (2) to achieve a predetermined potential difference across the detector (8) above a threshold value, and for substantially isolating the sensor element (5) from the voltage source (4) during a sensing period in which the charged capacitance (2) maintains a potential difference across the detector (8) above the threshold value and in which the detection of a photon by the detector (8) causes at least some of the charge on the capacitance (2) to discharge through the detector (8). The apparatus also comprises control circuitry (12) for controlling the switching circuitry (6) to initiate refresh and sensing periods in alternating sequence.

  • Patent number: 7825968
Abstract: A multi-color image processor according to the present invention includes an image capturing section 101 and a signal processing section 104. The image capturing section 101 includes a color separating section 10 for separating visible radiation into at least two light rays with first- and second-color components, respectively, and first and second imagers 12 and 14 that receive the light rays with the first- and second-color components. The image capturing section 101 gets images with the first- and second-color components by making the first imager 12 decimate pixels to read, but making the second imager 14 read every pixel, on a field-by-field basis on respective arrangements of pixels of the first and second imagers 12 and 14.

  • Patent number: 7341127
Abstract: A parking brake which is connected to at least two brake cables, in particular for a parking brake system of motor vehicles, comprising: an actuator with linking devices to which the at least two brake cables are coupled at linking places and an operator configured and connected to the actuator such that it can change the distance between the linking places in a controlled manner whereby a relative movement of the linking places to each other or away from each other is enabled. Preferably, the parking brake comprises a set of gears and an electric motor for generating and transmitting a rotation wherein the rotation is transformed into a linear movement by way of the actuator. The actuator includes a load sensing device for measuring the load applied to the brakes. The parking brake assures a uniform operation of the respective brakes and a comfortable control with reduced efforts for adjustment and maintenance.

  • Patent number: 7226574
Abstract: A process is disclosed for converting a hydrocarbon reactant to a product comprising CO and H2. The process comprises: (A) flowing a reactant composition comprising the hydrocarbon reactant and oxygen or a source of oxygen through a microchannel reactor in contact with a catalyst under reaction conditions to form the product, the microchannel reactor comprising at least one process microchannel with the catalyst positioned within the process microchannel, the hydrocarbon reactant comprising methane, the contact time for the reactant composition within the process microchannel being up to about 500 milliseconds, the temperature of the reactant composition and product within the process microchannel being up to about 1150° C., the conversion of the hydrocarbon reactant to carbon oxide being at least about 50%. The product formed in step (A) may be converted to a product comprising CO2 and H2O in a microchannel reactor.

  • Patent number: 7072256
Abstract: An information recording medium comprises a user area, and a spare area including a replacement area, wherein the replacement area may be used instead of a defective area in the user area. The user area and the spare area include a plurality of sectors. Each of the plurality of sectors includes a user data area for recording user data, and an attribute data area for recording defect replacement allowance attribute data. The defect replacement allowance attribute data indicates whether recording of the user data has been executed in a state that the execution of a defect replacement process is allowed. In the defect replacement process, the defective area in the user area is replaced with the replacement area in the spare area.

  • Patent number: 6668748
Abstract: A submersible article comprises a buoyancy body formed from polyurethane foam having a first density, which is at least partly overmolded with a protective skin of polyurethane foam having a second density higher than the first density. The lower density foam of the body gives the article buoyancy, while the higher density protective skin strengthens the article and gives impact resistance. The protective skin can be stiffened, either uniformly or locally, by the addition of glass fiber or other reinforcing material which is arranged over the buoyancy body prior to the overmolding. The article can be made by a two-stage molding process.

  • Patent number: 6463038
Abstract: A telephone conferencing system includes a voice services equipment (VSE) allowing a number of telephone calls to be connected together to form a conferencing function. Parties wishing to set up a conference agree on one of their telephone numbers being designated as a “link number”. The conference participants dial into the system and then each enters the link number. The system stores the link number in a link number store when the first caller calls in. The system also checks the caller's calling line identity (CLI) with the entered link number, and the conference will not be enabled unless there is a match; thus, the conference cannot be initiated until the link number participant has called in. Any other participant calling earlier can be put on “hold”. A number of different conferences may be taking place simultaneously, and participants will be grouped together correctly in their conference in accordance with the entered link number.
