Abstract: A method for fabricating a semiconductor device according to the present invention includes the steps of: growing a p-type gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor layer by performing a metalorganic chemical vapor deposition process in a heated atmosphere so that the crystal-growing plane of the semiconductor layer is an m plane (Step S13); and cooling the p-type gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor layer (Step S14) after the step of growing has been carried out. The step of growing includes supplying hydrogen gas to a reaction chamber in which the p-type gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor layer is grown. The step of cooling includes cooling the p-type gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor layer with the supply of the hydrogen gas to the reaction chamber cut off.
Abstract: A high resolution video signal is divided by video division means into a main signal and a sub signal, and the main signal and the sub signal are MPEG-encoded. The stream of the main signal and the stream of the sub signal are divided into 1 GPO or more of frames. First interleave blocks each including 1 GOP or more of the stream of the main signal and second interleave blocks each including 1 GOP or more of the stream of the sub signal are recorded on an optical disk. A high resolution reproduction apparatus reproduces both the first and second interleave blocks to obtain a high resolution video output. A non-high quality picture reproduction apparatus reproduces only the first or second interleave blocks to obtain a standard resolution video output.
Abstract: A recording power determination method for determining a recording power of an optical beam for recording data on an information storage medium includes the steps of recording test data on the information storage medium at a plurality of test recording powers; reading the test data recorded at each test recording power, generating a signal, and measuring a modulation factor of the signal corresponding to each test recording power; calculating a product of an n'th power of each test recording power and the corresponding modulation factor, thereby obtaining a plurality of products corresponding to the plurality of test recording powers, where n is a value of exponent and is a real number other than 1; calculating a first recording power based on the correlation between the plurality of test recording powers and the plurality of products; and calculating the recording power based on the first recording power.
Abstract: There is provided a multichannel audio amplification apparatus including a speaker detection circuit for detecting whether or not a speaker is connected to an arbitrary speaker terminal of speaker terminal groups TA and TB, and an operating circuit and a display circuit connected to a control circuit. Even in a case where one of two speaker groups of A and B types connected to the multichannel audio amplification apparatus cannot be connected with a surround speaker for reproducing only a surround sound, a listener is prevented, by indication, from carrying out on the operating circuit an erroneous operation or setting which otherwise might be liable to occur both in a case where the B-type speaker group including no surround speaker is connected to the multichannel audio amplification apparatus and in a case where the B-type speaker group is not connected thereto.
Abstract: An option which is considered to be desired by a user is determined by using an electroencephalogram interface (IF), and a determination error for the option is detected based on an electroencephalogram. If a determination error is detected, the option is corrected based on the electroencephalogram information which was used for the option determination. A correction apparatus to be incorporated in an electroencephalogram IF system is provided. The electroencephalogram IF system includes a biological signal measurement section, an analysis section for analyzing an event-related potential contained in an electroencephalogram signal of a user, an inference section for inferring an option desired by the user based on a result of analysis, and an output section for presenting the option inferred by the inference section to the user. The biological signal measurement section measures the electroencephalogram signal of the user based on a point of presenting the option to the user as a starting point.
Abstract: According to the present invention, multiple space bitmaps (SBMs #0 and #1 30) are provided for the user data area of each recording layer. A disc management structure update unit including one of those space bitmaps and a disc definition structure (TDDS 32) and having a size of one block is written on a management information area (TDMA 17). As a result, data including the disc definition structure (TDDS 32) can always be arranged in the first block at the top of the management information area (TDMA 17).
Abstract: The present invention concerns a portable electronic apparatus, such as a mobile phone, having an upper part being moveable in relation to a lower part of the apparatus. The movement of the upper part may both be a sliding and a tilting movement. The sliding movement is controlled by means of a sleeve and a guide placed in the upper part of the apparatus. The sleeve is connected to the lower part by means of pair of links at opposite sides of the apparatus. The links are received at opposite ends of each sleeve at fulcrums at the sleeve and lower part, respectively. The links are designed and positioned to give self-locking in at least three distinct positions of the upper part of the portable electronic apparatus in relation to the lower part of the apparatus.
Abstract: A display comprises: a single-view image display panel (6); and a parallax optic (8) disposed over a display face of the image display panel for restricting the angular spread of light output from the display face of the image display panel. This enables light to be concentrated in a desired viewing angle range (66), and avoids a user (56) seeing unwanted reflections that may occur as a result of a greater viewing angle range (64) if the parallax optic (8) is not provided. The display may be used, as an example, in a motor vehicle to prevent unwanted reflections from the windscreen (62) of the vehicle.

Abstract: The present invention provides a device that will not force, if the situation permits, the user to abort his or her work entirely when the modes of operation are changed from cleaning into non-cleaning, or vice versa. An information display device includes: a display section; a touchscreen panel, which forms an integral part of the display section and which has an input area that is associated with the display area of the display section; an area locating section for determining, in response to a user's action on the input area, what partial area of the input area has been operated on as a result of the user's action, thereby generating a signal specifying that partial area; and a control section for instructing the display section to display a non-opaque pattern with some degree of transparency.
Abstract: The present invention contributes to getting a reproduction/recording operation done with stability on an information recording medium by utilizing an absorption edge shifting phenomenon. An apparatus 100 according to the present invention includes: a light source 20 for emitting a laser beam; a lens 6 for condensing the beam onto an information recording medium 21; and a photodetector 19 for detecting light reflected from the medium 21, of which a recording layer includes a material that absorbs the beam at an increasing absorptance as the absorption edge of a light absorption spectrum shifts, with a rise in temperature, toward a longer wavelength range as a result of a band-to-band transition of electrons.
Abstract: An image capture device includes: an imager for imaging an object and generating image data; an image file generator for generating an image file by adding, to the image data generated by the imager, a header portion which stores at least one type of information concerning shooting circumstances; a timer for outputting information indicating a current time; and a manipulation section which is used to set period information specifying a period. The image file generator changes the type of information to be stored in the header portion depending on whether a time of imaging as indicated by the information which is output from the timer at the time of the imaging falls within the period specified by the period information.
Abstract: A tilting rotary furnace with a door assembly that seals against a furnace vessel. The seal between the door and the furnace vessel allows for regulation of the internal environment of the furnace and control over thermitting of the aluminum. As a result, aluminum recovery may be carried out without the use of salt. A portion of the door may rotate with the furnace vessel and a portion of the door may remain rotationally stationary with respect to the furnace vessel and the rotating portion of the door.
Abstract: A memory controller, a non-volatile storage device, a host device, and a non-volatile storage system capable of performing real-time recording even in the case where normal data and file management information/auxiliary information are written in alternating manner are provided. The host device (2) issues a memory management command before the start, after the end, or both before and after the start and end of real-time recording. When the non-volatile storage device (1) receives the memory management command, an internal memory controller (11) clears memory control information and performs garbage collection as necessary.
Abstract: A wing, such as a wing for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), includes a beam or box that can be selectively expanded from a collapsed condition, to increase the thickness of the wing.
