  • Patent number: 4683709
Abstract: This invention relates to a saddle pad and more particularly to an energy absorbing saddle pad which serves to minimize the amount of shock or energy transfer which occurs between a horse and its rider. The saddle pad, which is generally for use in conjunction with a saddle, comprises a soft moisture-absorbing layer for use next to the horse's coat and a tough abrasion resistant and absorbent layer for use next to the saddle. Included between the two layers are a pair of pockets each of which contains a removable and replaceable, lightweight, visco-elastic shock absorbing insert. The pockets are located within the pad such that when the pad is properly installed upon the horse the pockets align an insert on each side of the horse's spine in a position parallel and adjacent to the spine. Preferably, each side of the pad includes adjustable straps and a loop through which the lower portions of a saddle may be threaded to ensure the secure attachment of the pad to the saddle.

  • Patent number: 4684280
Abstract: Clevis connection includes a clevis bushing having a bushing sleeve, with a shoulder at one end having a tapered inner diameter, and a longitudinally extending slot through the shoulder and a portion of the length of the bushing sleeve. The bushing is inserted through aligned holes in the clevis arms and connecting lug. Then a tapered expander collet is inserted into the tapered inner diameter of the bushing shoulder and a bolt is inserted through the collet and bushing so that the bolt head loads through the collect which expands the bushing to cause pre-stress on the surrounding lug and a pre-load clamping of the connecting lug to one of the clevis arms, and cause pre-stress on the other clevis arm.

  • Patent number: 4684284
Abstract: Anti-rotation lock asembly includes a male threaded member that may be releasably locked in any desired axially adjusted position relative to a mating female threaded member by means of one or more wedge keys that are forced axially into notches in an end face of the female threaded member and radially against flats or keyways on the male threaded member. Surrounding the male member is a key retaining ring which retains the wedge keys on the male member when the wedge keys are disengaged from the female member to permit relative rotation between the male and female members for adjustment of the male member in or out relative to the female member. The wedge keys are retained in radial slots in the retaining ring which prevent relative axial movement between the wedge keys and retaining ring while permitting limited radial movement therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4682118
Abstract: A PSK and phase modulation transmission system has a modulator and a demodulator. The modulator has a carrier frequency generator (21) coupled to a voltage controlled phase shifter (22). The modulation of the signal in the shifter (22) is controlled by modulation voltage generator (23). A transmitter (24) receives the output from the shifter (22) and transmits the modulated signal. The demodulator (30) includes a receiver section (31) for receiving the signal transmitted by the transmitter (24). The receiver (31) is coupled to a modified phase locked loop comprising a phase detector (32), a low pass filter (33), a sample and a hold circuit (34) and a voltage controlled oscillator (35). A lock control circuit (36) receives either the output from the receiver (31) or the output from the filter (33) to produce a lock in pulse from changes in the received signal or changes in the demodulated signal at the filter (33) for controlling the sample and hold circuit (34).

  • Patent number: 4679870
Abstract: Manufacture of low profile clip connectors characterized by a cap in the form of a planar strip of plastic material provided with plural tapered holes spaced along its length. The cap is loaded into a test clip mold along with a cable/contact sub-assembly with the cap in juxtaposition with the side of the cable opposite the contacts which are soldered to respective conductors of the cable. After the mold is closed, molten plastic material is introduced into the mold cavity to form the balance of a clip body, the molten material flowing up through an insulation removed area of the cable around the soldered junctions and into the tapered holes in the cap which locks the cap to the thusly molded balance forming portion of the clip body.

  • Patent number: 4678230
Abstract: A back support mechanism (10) for a chair (9). The mechanism (10) has a pad (16) pivotally mounted to two links (17,18). An operating shaft (24) screw threadedly engages posts (19) mounted relative to guide rails (20). The links (17) cooperate with the posts whereby when the shaft (24) is rotated the posts (19) are caused to move along rails (20). This movement enables the pad (16) to pivot relative to the links (17) to cause the pad (16) to move out of the plane of the backrest (12) of the chair (9).

  • Patent number: 4677300
Abstract: A radiation detection and acquisition system including a plurality of radiation detector modules each characterized by the integration in a compact package of a scintillator probe and supporting electronics which provide digital pulse count signals in response to detected scintillations that may be transmitted by a differential line driver on twisted shielded wire pairs over great distances to a count signal processing unit while maintaining signal integrity. The digital pulse count output is independent of the type of radiation detected whereby the same count signal processing unit may be employed with different detectors for respective different radiations. The detector module may also have an analog signal output so that it may be interfaced to an analog signal analyzer and a third output of the detector module provides a digital output signal that reflects saturation of the electronics due to a high rate of detected scintillation events (pulse pile-up).

  • Patent number: 4674749
Abstract: A maze puzzle, characterized by a quality of flexibility, pliancy or suppleness, includes a maze or labyrinth consisting of a network of passages having flexible walls that are manipulable by the player to effect movement therethrough of a solving piece such as a ball. The walls of the maze puzzle preferably are of flexible, double layered fabric with the outer or cover layer serving to conceal the inner or liner layer which may be closed upon itself to form hidden obstructions at selected locations in the maze which prevent passage of the solving piece. In this manner, concealed dead-end passages are provided whereby the player must rely on his sense of feel to solve the puzzle. The cover layer preferably is of a soft and supple cloth fabric that is pleasing in appearance and feel.

  • Patent number: 4672992
Abstract: Ball drive mechanism includes a ball-like member on an eccentric output shaft of a rotary force motor which is received in a transversely extending cylindrical socket on a valve member. The outer diameter of the ball-like member is substantially the same as the inner diameter of the cylindrical socket to provide line contact therebetween at some distance radially offset from the longitudinal axis of the valve member which is at least as great as the eccentric offset, whereby the rotary output of the rotary force motor is translated into both linear and rotary movement of the valve member.

  • Patent number: 4673020
Abstract: A foundry molding machine is provided with a pattern plate surrounded by and movable in a well form. In a preferred form springs bias the well form upwardly around the pattern plate to form a well. The pattern plate and well form are mounted on a squeeze table and cooperate with the underside of a conventional flask which in turn engages an upset to form a mold chamber for receiving molding sand. In such preferred form the sand is blown under very low pressure into the chamber through a slotted squeeze head. As the squeeze table moves upwardly, sand is initially squeezed from the top against the squeeze head while the flask, upset, well form and pattern plate move upwardly as a unit. When a selected level of the flask is reached, preferably when the top is flush with the squeeze head, upward movement of the upset is stopped while the table continues upwardly. The pattern plate then telescopes upwardly within the well form while the flask and well form are held fixed.
