  • Patent number: 4267031
Abstract: A hydrocarbon oil coking process in which the feedstock is initially preheated to a temperature below the cracking temperature of the feedstock, prior to contacting the feedstock with a flue gas obtained from the coking zone so as to preheat the feedstock to the desired coking temperature and thereafter coking the preheated feedstock at a temperature above the cracking temperature of the feedstock.

  • Patent number: 4261814
Abstract: The invention provides an improvement in the conventional operation of a vacuum pipestill, whereby when used with, for example, an atmospheric residuum either (a) conventional yields are obtainable with less stripping steam utilization, or (b) a deeper cut into the residuum is obtainable for conventional steam utilization. Some of the gaseous mixture normally withdrawn from the top of the vacuum pipestill for washing and removal is fed into compression and recycle means and recycled to the stripping zone of the pipestill to replace, or augment, the conventionally used stripping steam.

  • Patent number: 4222749
Abstract: Fines are removed from a fines-containing fluid by fluidizing a bed of fluidizable solids with the fines-containing fluid at conditions avoiding fluid spouting at the bed surface, the bed solids being preferably at least two orders of magnitude greater in size than the particles, and being coated with a substance whose stickiness changes during its residence time in the bed. Particles adhere to the transiently sticky solids and can be recovered for re-use. Useful for cleaning dusty gases and recovering catalyst from cracker flue gas.

  • Patent number: 4134856
Abstract: A hydro-refining catalyst comprising at least one hydrogenation metal component supported on an alumina or alumina-containing carrier containing from about 5 to about 25 wt. % silica, said catalyst having a specific surface area in the range of from about 250 to about 300 m.sup.2 /g and a pore volume distribution characterized in that (1) the volume of pores having a diameter of 60 to 150 A is at least about 80% of the volume of pores having a diameter of 0 to 150 A, (2) the volume of pores having a diameter of 150 to 300 A is less than about 20% of the volume of pores of 0 to 300 A, (3) the volume of pores having a diameter of 150 to 2,000 A is less than about 0.01 ml/g, (4) the volume of pores having a diameter of 0 to 600 A is in the range of from about 0.45 to about 0.60 ml/g. The catalyst is used in the hydro-refining of heavy hydrocarbon oils containing sulfur, nitrogen and metal contaminants.
