  • Patent number: 5838267
Abstract: A method for encoding and decoding the digital information sequence uses a combination of two block codes to simultaneously correct and detect errors. The information sequence is encoded by a first stage of the encoder to produce an information code word including an information vector and a primary redundancy vector. The primary redundancy vector is encoded in a second stage of the encoder to obtain a redundancy code word. The information code word and redundancy code word are interleaved and transmitted to the receiver. At the receiver, the information code word and redundancy code word are decoded in a first stage of the decoder to obtain a first estimate of the information code word. The first estimate of the information code word is decoded in the second stage of the decoder to produce a second estimate of the information code word. The distance between the first and second estimates of the information code word is evaluated. If the distance is more than one, the received code word is erased.

  • Patent number: 5837371
Abstract: A process for lubricating acrylic fibers before dyeing in which packages of acrylic yarn formed by winding acrylic yarn about a dye tube are treated immersed in an aqueous lubricating bath containing a polyethylene, a low melting paraffin wax emulsion; and a high melting paraffin wax emulsion, followed by raising the temperature of the bath, to sequentially coat the fibers of the yarn with the polyethylene, the low melting paraffin wax emulsion, and the high melting paraffin wax emulsion. The yarn packages are then separated from the lubricating bath, and immersed in a dye bath to dye the yarn. In commercial application, the lubrication and subsequent dyeing is conducted in the chamber of a dye machine.

  • Patent number: 5832449
Abstract: A new and improved method of dispensing, tracking and managing pharmaceutical product samples by communicatively linking prescribers and pharmacies to a central computing station. The method entails utilizing product trial media that is exchanged for actual pharmaceutical product. The media is encoded with information that identifies a particular pharmaceutical trial product, such as by magnetic encoding similar to that used with credit cards. The media is distributed to participating medical doctors or prescribers who then activate the media via the central computing station. The prescriber then transfers the activated media to patients who then present the media to participating pharmacies. Before filling the pharmaceutical trial product identified by the media, the pharmacy validates the media via a link with the central computing station. Then, the pharmacy dispenses the prescribed pharmaceutical trial product.

  • Patent number: 5826277
Abstract: An improved sweat band. The sweat band includes an elastic band adapted to fit around a user's head and a length of sponge cloth intermittently attached along spaced apart locations to the elastic band. Only the ends and spaced apart segments of the strips are attached to the elastic band, therefore allowing the elastic band to stretch without being restricted by the inelastic sponge material. In the preferred embodiment, a tubular fabric wrap surrounds the elastic band and the length of sponge cloth to provide additional absorption and also to provide comfort to the user.

Abstract: A filter cleaning apparatus for removing dust and debris from a stationary filter having a dust an debris collecting surface. The apparatus includes a longitudinally extending duct having a lengthwise slot formed therein. A belt in the duct extends across the slot whereby the duct and the belt together define a plenum. The belt has an opening formed therein adjacent the slot and in fluid communication with the plenum. The belt is mounted for movement along the slot such that the opening may be repositioned along the length of the slot. A nozzle is mounted on the belt for movement therewith and extends outwardly from the belt. The nozzle has an inlet distal from the belt. The inlet has a width substantially transverse to the length of the slot which is greater than a corresponding width of the opening in the belt. The inlet is in fluid communication with the opening and thereby the plenum. The apparatus further includes drive means for moving the belt along the slot.
