Abstract: A system includes a plurality of computers interconnected by a network including one or more switching nodes. The computers transfer messages over virtual circuits established thereamong. A computer, as a source computer for one or more virtual circuit(s), schedules transmission of messages on a round-robin basis as among the virtual circuits for which it is source computer. Each switching node which forms part of a path for respective virtual circuits also forwards messages for virtual circuits in a round-robin manner, and, a computer, as a destination computer for one or more virtual circuit(s), schedules processing of received messages in a round-robin manner. Round-robin transmission, forwarding and processing at the destination provides a degree of fairness in message transmission as among the virtual circuits established over the network.

Abstract: Floating point numbers and other values are represented in a “delimited” representation in which all numbers, including those which would in the IEEE Std. 754 representation, be in the de-normalized format, are in a format which is normalized with an implicit most significant digit having the value “one.” For numbers which would, in the IEEE Std. 754 representation, be in the de-normalized format, in the delimited representation.
Abstract: A file management system is disclosed for managing files stored on a mass storage subsystem in response to file management commands. The mass storage subsystem stores data on at least one storage device, said storage device including a series of blocks. The file management system comprises an operating system-independent file map, a file management command receiver module, and a file management command execution module. The operating system-independent file map stores information identifying, for each file, block information identifying blocks on which the file is stored. The file management command receiver module receives a file management command. The file management command execution module executes the file management command in relation to the operating system-independent file map.
