Abstract: Fast acting actuation system which is especially suitable for automatic sprinklers and other emergency devices. The system includes a fast-acting low mass thermally responsive element comprising a pair of thin metal strips soldered together, a percussion member such as a firing pin which is released when the solder in the thermally responsive element melts, and an actuator, preferably a radially expandable explosive actuator, which is initiated by the firing pin. The actuator when initiated causes rapid actuation of the automatic sprinkler or other device.
Abstract: Cellulosic papers having improved handling and strength properties result when made by using as an internal or surface sizing an aromatic polyisocyanate/isocyanate terminated prepolymer blend.
Abstract: Carboxy terminated vinylester urethane polymers are useful as a thickening agent for sheet molding compositions when reacted with metal oxide which comprises a compound having the general formula:B--I[A--M--A--M].sub.n --CO.sub.2 HwhereinB is a radical derived from a hydroxyl-terminated ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid;I is a radical derived from an aromatic polyisocyanate;A is a radical derived from polyoxyalkylene bisphenol A or derivative thereof;M is a radical derived from a dicarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof;n is an integer equal to from 1 to about 10.The polymer is employed as a thickening agent in systems containing vinylmonomer and other ethylenically unsaturated resins.

Abstract: Blends of polyols and polyamines containing internal mold release agents consisting of certain polysiloxanes having pendant organic groups which have functional hydroxyl, amino or mercapto groups are useful in preparing mold releasable resin moldings when made by the reaction injection molding technique.
Abstract: The invention is directed to a liquid polyisocyanate dispersions containing an unreacted polysiloxane mold release agent which has isocyanate reactive groups. Specifically, the invention is directed to polyol modified diphenylmethane diisocyanates having dispersed therein a polysiloxane compound having pendant organic chains which contain at least one hydroxyl, amino or carboxyl functional group and a silicone dispersing or inhibiting agent substantially free of isocyanate reactive groups.
Abstract: 3,3',5,5'-tetraalkyl-4,4'-biphenols are prepared in high yields under relatively mild conditions by the hydrogenation of tetra-substituted diphenoquinones in alkyl benzene solvent solution.
Abstract: Biphenol and para substituted alkyl benzene derivatives are produced in high yield and purity by heating alkyl benzene solvent solutions of tetraalkyl substituted 4,4'-biphenols in the presence of strong acid catalyst.
Abstract: 4,4'-biphenol and tert-alkyl substituted alkyl benzene derivatives are produced by hydrogenating a tetraalkyl diphenoquinone in an alkyl benzene solvent solution under relatively mild conditions in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst, removing said catalyst from the resultant tetraalkyl biphenol and thereafter heating said alkyl benzene solvent solution in the presence of a strong acid catalyst to form relatively pure biphenol in high yields and a para substituted alkyl benzene derivative.
Abstract: Blends of silicone surfactants substantially free of isocyanate reactivity and certain polysiloxane compounds having pendant organic chains which have at least one isocyanate reactive functional group are useful as internal mold release agents. These blends form stable dispersions in liquid polyisocyanates for use in reaction injection molding techniques.
