  • Patent number: 8344560
Abstract: A magnetically actuated reciprocating motor utilizes the stored energy of rare earth magnets and an electromagnetic field provided by a solenoid to reciprocally drive a solenoid assembly. A converting mechanism, such as a connecting rod and crankshaft, converts the reciprocating motion of the solenoid assembly to power a work object. The solenoid assembly comprises a solenoid having a nonferromagnetic spool with a tubular center section and a coil of wire wrapped around the center section. A magnetic actuator has a permanent magnet at each end of an elongated shaft that is received through the center section of the spool. A switching mechanism switches magnetic polarity at the ends of the solenoid so the solenoid assembly is alternatively repelled and attracted by the permanent magnets. A controlling mechanism interconnecting an output shaft and the switching mechanism provides the timing to switch the polarity of the solenoid and reciprocate the solenoid assembly.

  • Patent number: 8337210
Abstract: A behavior modification device and method for encouraging positive behavior and discouraging negative behavior by a child. The device comprises a positive section having a positive receptacle, a neutral section having two receptacles and a negative section having a negative receptacle. Each of the positive and negative sections are made up of members that disconnect to open the receptacles and which separate from the neutral section. Tokens and reward items are placed in the neutral section and a caregiver monitors the child. If good behavior is observed, a token is moved to the positive receptacle. If further good behavior is observed, a second token is moved to the positive receptacle and the child gets a reward item. If bad behavior is observed, a token is moved to the negative receptacle. If further bad behavior is observed, a second token is moved to the negative receptacle and the child is disciplined.

Abstract: A magnetically actuated reciprocating motor utilizes the stored energy of magnets, particularly rare earth magnets, and an electromagnetic field to reciprocally drive a magnetic actuator. • Patent number: 8292678
Abstract: An improved personal propulsion device that generally imparts thrust directly to the user. The device allows hands free control of thrust magnitude and direction so both hands can grasp and control bicycle handlebars and brakes, watercraft paddles, ski poles or other apparatuses. The device is adjustable vertically, on the users' back, higher to allow sitting in a canoe or wheelchair and lower for standing on skates, skis, kick scooters etc. In one embodiment, the device includes an air compressor that is operatively connected to a cam mechanism engaged with the propulsion mechanism to provide compressed air. In another embodiment, the device includes a gap control mechanism to reduce or increase the size of the air inlet gap between the lip of the propeller shroud and an air horn to decrease noise levels or increase propulsion. The air horn can be gradiently flexible and warpable to allow controlled movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 8251383
Abstract: A skateboard truck assembly providing improved speed reduction or braking response when the rider places the skateboard in a rear tilt or tail drag position without sacrificing the skateboard's turning responsiveness. The truck assembly comprises a pair of axle distal sections, the portion of the axle extending beyond the ends of the hanger, that are angled relative to the riding surface. The angled axle sections causes the wheels to move in an outward direction, relative to the forward direction of the skateboard, when the skateboard is placed in a rear tilt position, resulting in drag that slows or stops the forward movement of the skateboard. Preferably, the truck assembly utilizes tapered wheels having an outer circumference which is larger than the inner circumference to provide improved speed reduction and turning stability. In addition, the pivot axis is more closely aligned or aligned with the axle axis to increase turning stability.

  • Patent number: 8220442
Abstract: An exhaust recovery system for use with an internal combustion engine having an air intake device connected to an air/fuel mixing device. The system comprises an improved muffler having a vortex inducing filter mechanism inside the muffler chamber that facilitates separation of engine exhaust air into cool and hot gas streams and encloses a filter element that filters out particulate matter and other pollutants. Engine exhaust air is circumferentially discharged into the muffler chamber and a cone member is disposed inside the chamber to separate and direct the gas streams. The cooled gas stream is redirected to the air intake device through an outlet pipe at the first end of the muffler so pressurized cooled air is directed into the air/fuel mixing device to improve engine performance and efficiency. The filtered hot gas stream is discharged to the environment out a discharge pipe at the second end of the muffler.

  • Patent number: 8079423
Abstract: A cultivating tool for removing weeds and unwanted grass and for cultivating ground around and under an object under which a standard hoe or a hula-type hoe cannot fit. The cultivating tool has a thin scraping blade at the lower end of an elongated handle with a blade assembly interconnecting the handle and an upwardly disposed mounting standard on the upper surface of the scraping blade. The blade assembly includes a mechanism that connects to the lower end of the handle and a pivoting mechanism that pivots the scraping blade relative to the handle. The blade assembly connects the scraping blade to the handle in a manner which maintains the spaced area above both ends of the blade unobstructed so the scraping blade may slide under a plant without harming the plant and under an object to remove weeds and grass.

  • Patent number: 8057327
Abstract: A method of custom fitting a golf club or like implements having a shaft and a club head at a lower end thereof. The method utilizes the centerline of the shaft to determine the proper lie angle and true playing length for the shaft. A pointing device is attached to the shaft such that a projected point thereof is aligned with the centerline of the shaft to extend the centerline to the sole of the club head. The club head is placed on a universal setup mat with the club face aligned with the baseline thereof and the projected point on a target line where the sweet spot of the club head should hit a ball. A lie angle protractor on the mat is folded upward so the lie angle can be read from the protractor. The method also determines the proper grip size for the handle of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 7808378
Abstract: An alert notification system and method for neighborhood, business, work location, community and other groups for broadcasting an alert message from one member of the group to the other members of the group. A member of the group who sees or hears of an alert condition, which may be criminal activity, suspicious character(s), animal running loose, natural or man-made disaster or the like, becomes an alert initiator by calling a centrally based alert processing device that, after verifying the caller is a member of a group, allows the caller to record an audible alert message describing the alert situation. The processing device then broadcasts the alert message to each member of the alert initiator's group or groups so the alert recipients may take appropriate action to protect lives and/or property. The alert processing device stores information regarding the caller and the message for later auditing and retrieval purposes.
