  • Patent number: 5596280
Abstract: A PLL (phase-locked loop) circuit is used in apparatus for testing individual circuits in circuit devices. The PLL circuit operates at an input frequency provided by the output of an input oscillator when this oscillator is connected to one of the inputs of a phase comparator within the PLL circuit. When this connection is not made, the PLL circuit operates at a freerunning frequency, which is varied by connecting a circuit under test with a frequency controlling node present within a voltage-controlled oscillator in the PLL circuit. In a first mode of operation, the circuit under test is initially connected to the frequency controlling node, but the input oscillator is not connected to the phase comparator. When the input oscillator is so connected, the frequency of oscillations moves from a freerunning frequency associated with the circuit under test to the input frequency.

  • Patent number: 5570113
Abstract: A method and system for a pen-based computer system allow a user to automatically cancel a gesture in progress under several different conditions and terminate the operation of the system in a gesture recognition motion. In a first condition, a gesture cancel timeout period is stored in a memory of the system. The cancel timeout period is definitive of holding the input device in a motionless condition. When the timeout period is exceeded, a software application program recognize the excessive time period, terminates the operation of the system in gesture recognition mode. In another condition, a motion area is defined in the program for the input device. When the gesture executed by the input device exceeds the pre-defined motion area, the application program recognizes the excessive motion and terminates the operation of the system in the gesture recognition mode. In another condition, each input device is identified and stored in memory.

  • Patent number: 5553293
Abstract: An interprocessor interrupt hardware unit ("IIU") for processing interrupts between a remote processor and a host processor on a multiprocessor system. The IIU off loads tasks involved in processing interrupts from the operating kernel of the remote processor. Control blocks of interrupt information and commands are stored in Data Random Access Memory (DRAM) by the remote processor. The remote processor sets up a buffer of control block memory addresses in DRAM for the IIU to access to retrieve the control blocks from DRAM. The IIU retrieves a control block and loads the control block into registers. The IIU then issues an interrupt request to the host processor. The host processor receives the interrupt request and reads the registers to obtain the control block. The host processor clears the interrupt request and indicates to the IIU that the interrupt has been processed. The IIU then notifies the remote processor that the interrupt has been processed.

  • Patent number: 5539306
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for quickly testing individual wiring nets in a multi-layer device carrier. A central processing unit (CPU) controls a probe to sequentially engage contact pads on the carrier, each of which is electrically connected to a respective wiring net. The probe connects each wiring net to a network sensitive pulse generator circuit which generates a train of output pulses having a frequency dependent upon the transient behavior of the net under test. The stimulation of the net and the sensing of the net's response operate responsively to a feedback signal, which is also a signature signal. By connecting the net under test to the novel circuit, the combination of the novel circuit and the net under test generates the series of output pulses. The number of pulses generated in a predetermined period of time forms the signature of the net under test. A preferred embodiment is described which uses differential amplifiers to stimulate the net and to sense the net's response.

  • Patent number: 5535242
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for permitting selected command sequences to be processed by a modem during data transfer operations. A preselected escape character is designated and inserted into a data stream to be applied to a modem in order to identify a selected command sequence which follows. A termination character is inserted into the data stream following the selected command sequence. Upon detection of the preselected escape character, the selected command sequence is coupled to a command processor within the modem and processed. In applications in which the modem is coupled between a data processing system and a cellular telephone communication channel, the selected command sequence may be utilized to transmit communication channel parameter status queries to a cellular telephone associated with the modem. In this manner, the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), bit error rate, or other indications of communication channel status may be queried.

  • Patent number: 5495616
Abstract: An interrupt-driven processor system comprising a processor connected via a plurality of processor input and output lines to a keypad or keyboard. Actuation of one of the keys of the keypad or keyboard generates an interrupt signal on one of the input lines which invokes an interrupt service routine in the processor. A secondary interrupt source can be attached via an interrupt line to each of the input lines with the interrupt service routine being designed to discriminate between an interrupt signal generated by actuation of a key and an interrupt signal generated by a secondary source. Using this technique, further interrupts can be added to an off-the-shelf processor including keypad interrupts without the need for additional interrupt controlling hardware. Furthermore, a custom-built microprocessor can be designed with fewer interrupt pins.
