Abstract: One or both of a pair of oppositely rotating bodies, such as motor driven flywheels, are mounted for pivotal movement against the side of a ram. One or more tension rods connect pivot shafts or members for equalizing precession and similar forces of rotating bodies, rather than housing. Pulsed solenoids produce force increased by force multiplying device, such as pivoted links or cable arrangement, which has greatest mechanical advantage when solenoid pull is weakest at start, but decreases as solenoid pull increases. Ram has entrance taper on one or both sides. Ram is returned by nylon sheathed bundle of elastomer cords which are looped around ram from both sides and stretch proportionally along their length. Removable guide rods engage holes in side wings of ram. Safety device is actuated by rod, moved through engagement with work piece, for closing safety switch in solenoid circuit. Alternatively, a block engages a ram wing to prevent impact stroke, but is removed by a similar rod.
Abstract: An animal chute having a scissor acting side holds the body of an animal by squeezing against an adjustable, and simultaneously squeezing the animal's neck in a slight turn, to provide an automatic head and neck size adjustment, and provides conjoint animal squeezing and head locking.
Abstract: A vapor riser for a bubble cap formed of plastic material is threadedly attached to a plate in a rectifying column, and a plastic bubble cap is secured to the riser. The bubble caps are releasably secured by integral, interlocking elements on the risers and bubble caps.
Abstract: A generally uniform diameter pipe secured to the top of a well casing providing a seat for a spool having spaced plates and a flow directing central space to a lateral distributing pipe, with the plates having peripheral sealing means against thin sealing seats on the inside of the pipe, and a central spool pipe arranged for either a turbine drive for a pump or a submerged pump. The spool being arranged for easy seating in or withdrawal from the outer pipe for service.
Abstract: Particulate oil shale is subjected to a pyrolysis with a hot, non-oxygenous gas in a pyrolysis vessel, with the products of the pyrolysis of the shale contained kerogen being withdrawn as an entrained mist of shale oil droplets in a gas for a separation of the liquid from the gas. Hot retorted shale withdrawn from the pyrolysis vessel is treated in a separate container with an oxygenous gas so as to provide combustion of residual carbon retained on the shale, producing a high temperature gas for the production of some steam and for heating the non-oxygenous gas used in the oil shale retorting process in the first vessel. The net energy recovery includes essentially complete recovery of the organic hydrocarbon material in the oil shale as a liquid shale oil, a high BTU gas, and high temperature steam.
Abstract: A series of adjoining cam discs are mounted on a foot having an inclined surface, with the cams surrounding a stem connecting the foot and a head of a diameter to fit within a borehole in rock. The stem extends axially between the head and the foot, while the inclined surface is spaced from the head and is inclined with respect to the axis of the anchor. The head has threads for receiving corresponding threads on a bolt which extends through the foot and stem, while the flat cam discs have a width less than, and a length greater than, the diameter of the borehole. The anchor is moved into the borehole and the cam discs are caused to engage the wall of the borehole, the bolt then being turned to thread the head against the cam discs and force the ends of the cam discs against or into the wall.
Abstract: An adapter for the concrete foundation mounted bolts to the bolt holes of a pole base of a different configuration, including a lower plate arranged to be secured to bolts on the concrete base, an upper plate arranged to be secured to the pole base and interconnecting braces inclusive of a central electric wire passage and supporting braces between the plates.
Abstract: A stationary base plate having an attached pivotable plate, and a cable secured around a circular flange depending from the pivotable plate has its extending ends lengthened or shortened on pivoting the pivotable plate. With the cable ends secured to opposite sides of a pivoted lever device, it may be pivoted by turning the pivotable plate.
Abstract: A post made of one piece of molded polymeric material having a vertically upwardly extending elongated post means portion for supporting apparatus mounted thereon; a driving head means portion connected to and mounted below the lower end of the post means portion for application of force thereto without application of force to the upper end of the post means portion for forcibly driving the post apparatus into the ground; stabilizing flange means portions mounted on the driving head means portion below the lower end of the post means portion for stabilizing and supporting the post apparatus in a vertical attitude after being forcibly driven into the ground; and a ground penetrating shaft means portion connected to and mounted below the stabilizing means portion for initial penetration of the ground during forcible driving of the post apparatus into the ground.
Abstract: A cylindrical shell with a double acting piston, having a high pressure area and a low pressure area on each side thereof, is provided with a valve for alternately injecting high pressure gas to each small area to provide an initial piston drive, and valving for injecting gas under the pressure, opposite from the first high pressure end to the opposite larger area providing a secondary piston drive using expansion of the high pressure expanded gas from the opposite end of the piston. In reversing the piston, the opposite end becomes the drive end in the same manner. In one form, a two position slide valve, initially actuated by piston movement and completed by gas pressure movement, provides a transfer means for gas streams internally of the motor and for exhaust of the secondary expanded gas. The valve is arranged for an initial mechanical movement from one position toward the other position by contact with the end wall of the low pressure cylinder and then completely moved to other position by gas pressure.
Abstract: Fresh, outside air may be supplied to a first space, such as a dining area of a restaurant or the like, while air from the first space may be recirculated through an air conditioning unit for cooling or heating the air, which is returned to the first space. Also, air from the first space is transferred to a second space, such as a cooking room of a restaurant or the like, which contains heat producing cooking equipment, the latter resulting in the second space having additional cooling requirements. Such transfer air is passed through a chilling device, in which the air contacts water, as through sprays or a water bath, to cool the water to a temperature close to the dew point of the air, and also to correspondingly cool the air furnished to the second space. When cooling of air to the first space is required, either the recirculated air, but preferably the fresh air, is cooled by the chilled water produced by the chilling device.
Abstract: A composition and method whereby aluminum scrap, including consumer scrap, is recycled into aluminum sheet and aluminum containers. Aluminum scrap is melted in a heated furnace to form a melt composition. The melt is adjusted to form the present composition, consisting essentially of silicon, 0.1-1.0%; iron 0.1-0.9%; manganese 0.4-1.0%; magnesium 1.3-2.5%; copper 0.05-0.4%; and titanium, 0-0.2%, the balance being essentially aluminum. Aluminum scrap comprising consumer scrap, plant scrap, and can making scrap is heated to form the melt composition, which requires a minimum amount of adjustment to arrive at the present alloy composition. The composition is then cast and fabricated into sheet having strength and formability properties making it suitable for container manufacture. Container manufacture according to the process and composition of the present invention comprises drawn-and-ironed can body manufacture and easy-opening end manufacture.
