  • Patent number: 6564630
Abstract: A method for measuring level with a plurality of capacitive sensors arranged next to each other along a filling section. The method steps are: subjecting a sensor to a measuring signal and subjecting an adjacent sensor to a phase-displaced measuring signal. Then the resulting signals on the sensors are measured. Next the phase displacement between the resulting signals is determined. Then the level is established in accordance with the phase displacement.

  • Patent number: 6513210
Abstract: A cordage for threading through an opening. An elastic cord is provided with an elongated shank component and at least one outwardly expandable component. When the cord is under tension, the expandable component shrinks to a diameter which is sufficient to enable its movement through an opening, such as an eyelet of a shoe. In response to the tension being released, the expandable component enlarges to a diameter which is sufficiently large to resist movement through the opening.

  • Patent number: 6485289
Abstract: A NOx reduction burner system and process. Fuel modification and fuel rich reactor zone gases are brought together with products from a fuel lean reactor zone in a low temperature burnout and NOx reduction reactor zone. The fuel modification fuel rich reactor stabilizes combustion through recirculation of hot gases to the reactants. Nitrogenous species decay reactions in the fuel rich zone controls the production of NOx. The nitrogenous species from the fuel rich zone and the NOx from the fuel lean zone then react in the burnout zone at an optimal temperature and nitrogenous species mix where NOx is minimized. Temperature in all zones, and in particular the burnout zone, can be controlled by furnace gas entrainment, induced flue gas recirculation, forced flue gas recirculation and active cooling by radiative and/or convective heat transfer. NOx can be even further reduced by introducing ammonia, or a like amine species, into the low temperature burnout zone.

  • Patent number: 6470108
Abstract: A method of measuring with high accuracy the composition of shape memory alloy elements that are sputter deposited in thin film form. An element of known composition is polished with a flat surface. An element of unknown composition is sputter deposited onto the surface. Miniature openings are made by photography in the unknown layer, exposing an area of the known substrate. With adjacent areas of the two samples then only microns apart, accurate measurements of the compositions are made by comparing the X-ray spectra resulting from an electron beam scanning across the two areas.

  • Patent number: 6279162
Abstract: A safety protection garment which enables a user to comfortably wear it during travel, and in which the garment can be rapidly prepared for an emergency for resisting impact forces or for providing buoyancy to keep the user afloat in water. The garment has an inner lining and outer shell which are joined together to form a chamber which contains a compressible layer. The compressible layer is formed of an elastic material which resiliently expands and contracts between memory and compressed shapes. A valve device enables the user to open and close air flow into the chamber. For normal wearing, the layer is in its compressed state with air substantially evacuated from the chamber and the valve closed. To prepare for an emergency, the valve is opened so that air enters the chamber sufficient to equalize the chamber pressure with atmospheric pressure. The layer then expands to its memory shape where it resiliently resists impact forces and also provide buoyancy to keep the user afloat in water.

  • Patent number: 6273827
Abstract: A putter head includes a main body with a front face upon which is carried a resilient ball-striking pad. The pad comprises a fibrous material having a resiliency so that impact forces when the head strikes a ball are elastically absorbed while imparting an optimum kinetic feel to the user. The fibrous material also produces an optimum reaction force against the ball for propelling it outwardly from the putter head. Certain embodiments provide for recessing the pad in the face of the head for providing a backing layer between the pad and recess, and for releasably attaching the pad to the face.

  • Patent number: 4721146
Abstract: A clutch or rolling door operating mechanism permits use of two sources of power for moving the door between open and closed positions. A drive gear rotates about an eccentrically mounted shaft which itself is turned through a clutch of the fixed drag type to swing the gear into engagement with the drive train for moving the door via manual power and to permit the gear to swing into disengagment with such drive train for moving the door by electric power operation. In one form a circuit interlock prevents motor operation during manual driving of the door; in a second form an audible "clacker" sounds to indicate manual operation of the operating mechanism.
