Abstract: A captive screw is provided which has a head and a threaded shank with grooves extending inwardly from the outer end of the shank, with a washer extending around the shank and provided with tabs extending into the grooves. A bore is provided in the outer end of the shank and formed with an undercut portion of enlarged diameter. A plug having a straight knurl on a shank is pressed into the bore to retain the plug to the shank, becoming embedded in the shank at either end of the enlarged portion. A head on the plug engages the outer end of the shank and interferes with the tab to hold the washer to the shank. The plug may have an annular groove for engagement by a removal tool.
Abstract: A wireway is provided from a unitary member, shaped as a channel, with a slotted central web for supporting cables or the like. One of the side flanges of the channel has an extension with a doubled over portion used as the attachment to a downcomer. Flanges at the opposite edges of the doubled over portion receive the downcomer. When attached to the open side of a downcomer channel, a spacer block extends between the downcomer and the doubled over portion.

Abstract: A box is provided having opposite end panels, one of which is defined by two layers, one inside the other, the outer layer including a closure flap and cutout beneath it, the inner layer including an inner closure flap, the upper portion of which is attached to the outer closure flap and which is bendable transversely beneath the attachment to the outer closure flap, the outer closure flap having a bottom edge retaining the bottom edge of said inner closure flap. A third layer inwardly of the second layer has an opening covered by the closure flaps. In one embodiment, a fourth layer, also with an opening, is provided.
Abstract: A vehicle brake light and display system employs a display screen having an array of light emitting diodes arranged to transmit a selected pattern or message in red light. A fixed or programmable memory has sets of data stored therein that can be selectively extracted to energize certain of the light emitting elements and display a single line of a selected message. Upon actuation of the brake of the vehicle in which the display screen is mounted, display of the message is disabled, and all of the light emitting elements are energized to provide a solid display of red over the entire screen. As a further safety feature, the display is maintained in a disable condition until initial application of the brake, and thereafter subsequent applications of the brake will cause display of the brake light over the entire display panel.
Abstract: A fastener unit for use on a composite nonmetallic surface which includes a channel of composite nonmetallic material, which may be bonded or riveted to the supporting surface, and has at least one opening through it, and a fastener assembly which includes a basket having an opening in its center and slotted deflectable end walls, a retainer member, including a flat portion with tabs projecting into openings in the side flanges of the channel and a tubular portion extending into the opening in the central web of the channel, and a nut having a base portion with tabs received in the openings in the end walls of the basket. Clearances are provided so that the nut has limited lateral floating movement. The nut is removable from the remainder of the unit by deflecting the end walls of the basket, which permits the nut to be replaced.
Abstract: A windmill is provided which automatically compensates for increased wind velocity, causing the blades to feather and rotate at a substantially constant velocity rather than overspeeding. This is accomplished by pivotally mounting the blades so that they are rotatable between positions of relatively high angle with respect to the direction of the wind and positions of relatively shallow angle, with a resilient means biasing them to the former position. Tabs projecting forwardly at obtuse angles from the outer ends of the leading edges of the blades cause the blades to be pivoted to the feathered position when wind velocity increases.
Abstract: This invention provides a frictional clamping arrangement for holding the workpiece being cut by a router so as to prevent movement of the cutout portion of the workpiece in the last increment of the cut. The device includes a pressure foot having a clamping member which is forced downwardly against the surface of the workpiece when the cut is nearly completed for holding the cutout portion of the workpiece motionless relative to the worktable so as to prevent its lateral movement during completion of the cut. The clamping member is fixed relative to the spindle during the principal part of the cut, but is released for limited movement relative to the spindle when holding the workpiece.
Abstract: This invention provides an inspection arrangement for a code symbol consisting of a plurality of spaced parallel bars of different widths and predetermined spacing, the inspection arrangement including a sheet having a plurality of spaced viewable areas which may be defined by the edges of windows in the sheet member. The windows have relatively wide portions which are the maximum width dimensions for the corresponding bars of the code symbol and relatively narrow portions at the minimum bar width dimensions. The inspection device is placed over the code symbol and positioned to determine if all of the bars can be made to fall entirely within their corresponding inspection windows. The device also is positioned to center the bars to ascertain if their dimensions are at least as wide as that of the relatively narrow portions of their inspection windows.
