  • Patent number: 5230896
Abstract: A novel transdermal delivery system for nicotine to satisfy addicted smokers' cravings therefore is comprised of a nicotine base, an acrylate polymer adhesive, a stabilizer and a polyester film backing. The nicotine is absorbed through the skin at sufficiently high levels to reduce or eliminate the desire to smoke, yet its concentration within the acrylate matrix is such that a laminar patch is constructed that is neither bulky nor obvious when worn. A method of manufacture of the transdermal system is also described.

  • Patent number: 5204129
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a method for preparing pulverized Polydextrose having a particle size of under about 125 microns in diameter from Polydextrose which is substantially free of low molecular weight organic acids which comprises the steps of (a) admixing Polydextrose which is substantially free of low molecular weight organic acids with an anti-caking agent to form a mixture, and (b) pulverizing the mixture to form the pulverized Polydextrose. The pulverized Polydextrose composition may be used in a variety of chewing gum products and edible products. The present invention also pertains to methods for preparing the chewing gum and edible products in which the novel composition may be used.

  • Patent number: 5188836
Abstract: Semi-enteric controlled release formulations are comprised of a biological active agent such as an antibiotic that is blended with a water-soluble bulking agent, the mix then coated onto an inert core. The coated active core is further coated with a mixture comprised of an acrylic copolymer, bulking agent and pH dependent food acid. These different coating components possess different solubility characteristics which result in a gradual release of the active in both the stomach and small intestine that provides an increased bioavailability of the active drug.

  • Patent number: 5125819
Abstract: An apparatus for making center-filled chewing gum, in which product having up to at least 35-40% by weight of center fill can be produced. The apparatus includes a novel extruder barrel and nozzle arrangement (11) which extrudes a tubular rope of gum (G) through an annular orifice (30), and at the same time supplies a center-fill material (F) to the hollow interior (V) of the tubular rope through a central nozzle (20,21) concentric with the orifice. The center-fill material is fed into the hollow interior of the gum rope at a rate sufficient to just fill the void produced in the gum rope as it is extruded through the nozzle, and without exerting a compressive pressure thereon. With this apparatus, center-filled chewing gum can be produced with up to at least 35-40% by weight of center-fill material and at the same time uniform wall thickness and consistency for the center-filled product can be maintained.

  • Patent number: 5125211
Abstract: A reclosable package for holding items comprises a container having a front portion, top end portion and back portion. An adhesive front label is applied to the front portion of the container. A flexible adhesive flap is then applied which covers the label, top end, and back portions of the container. The label and front portion of the container has a contoured edge formed therein to define an opening edge. The flap includes a non-adhesive pull tab. Lifting the pull tab detaches the front portion along the contoured edge and also removes the top end to open the package. The back of the flap remains attached to the back of the package to form a hinged connection. The flap is resealable to the front portion of the package, to allow the package to be reclosed.
