Abstract: A vehicle seat especially adapted for use in a camper, pick-up truck or the like which has a seat back which can be fully reclined to the horizontal position. The seat includes a sleeping compartment arrangement which is attached to the seat for use as a bed cover when in a horizontal position. The base of the seat back includes leg members, which allow level placement of the seat back in the horizontal position. When in use as a conventional car seat, a belt or strap secures the sleeping compartment to the seat. The seat is designed for removal from the vehicle, for use as a bed in a tent, cabin or other area.
Abstract: A portable exercise device for use with the user's legs at various locations. The device comprises a frame, feet for resting on a surface, handle-bars for gripping the device and a pedal arrangement. The pedal arrangement is adjustable to allow different degrees of force to be applied to the pedals while in use.
Abstract: A demountable body and a transport vehicle therefor are disclosed. The body has front-body ramps and the vehicle has rear-chassis rollers. When the vehicle is reversed under the body, the ramps engage on the rollers and the front of the body is lifted. On further reversal, as the body approaches its mounted position, the front of the body is lowered by further front-body ramps rolling over front-chassis rollers or by front-body rollers rolling down front-chassis ramps. The rear of the body is lowered by a chassis lifting bridge or by the vehicle's suspension. The process of demounting is the reverse of the process of mounting.
Abstract: When Geothermal water, obtained from natural sources, delivers heat to energy conversion equipment or to heat transfer surfaces, the resulting effluents are supersaturated with amorphous silica. This invention relates to passing such effluents through a fluidized particle bed in which the silica deposits on the bed particles. The coated particles are removed from the system, the coatings removed and the particles are recycled to the fluidized bed.
Abstract: A process for developing an embossed effect on nylon pile fabric by applying the embossing agent and color to the pile, using a wet-on-wet technique to move the embossing agent toward the base of the pile, and finishing by heating the treated pile. An embossing of satisfactory depth is obtained, shrinkage of the fibers is near the base, with the embossed fibers at their exposed ends having a soft feel. Dye penetration in the fiber is commercially acceptable.
Abstract: It is believed that rheumatoid arthritis and related collagen and auto-immune diseases are an infection and that various species of free-living (limax) amoebae are the aetiological agent of these diseases. It has been discovered that furazolidone is effective for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other collagen and auto-immune (rheumatoid) diseases.
Abstract: A wall edge marking device for resilient floor coverings for aiding in cutting the floor covering to size. The marking device has a relatively smooth base surface capable of sliding along the surface of a resilient floor covering which is laid out on a floor area and extends beyond the area to be covered and up a wall surface. An upright surface extends in a plane substantially normal to that of the base surface. The upright surface is biased back on each side to form a pair of angular faces. The apex of the angular faces contacts the wall and slides along the surface of the floor covering overlapping the wall. The intersection of the base and upright surfaces is rounded and has an adjustable marker protruding therefrom. The device slides along the floor, against the wall, where it will trace a mark on the floor covering. This mark can be used as a cutting line for cutting the flooring for an accurate fit. The mark is adjustable in the vertical plane, to compensate for various thicknesses of flooring.
Abstract: A method of increasing the reaction rate of the polymerization and/or cross-linking of reactive polymerizable and/or cross-linkable acrylic monomeric materials initiated by dialkyl or diaralkyl peroxides as the free radical generator which comprises carrying out such a polymerization and/or cross-linking reaction in the presence of a member of the group consisting of stannous alkanoates, alkenoates, aralkanoates and aralkenoates, dialkyl tin dialkanoates, dialkenoates, diaralkanoates and diaralkenoates, or mixtures thereof in various proportions.

Abstract: A method of making a solar heat energy collecting system which comprises: forming a potentially foamable, resinous base layer containing a blowing agent; applying a printing composition to the surface of the potentially foamable, resinous base layer in the form of at least one continuous path extending from one edge point to another edge point of the potentially foamable, resinous base layer, the printing composition comprising a blowing inhibitor and a release agent; applying a top surface layer to the surface of the printed potentially foamable, resinous base layer which adheres thereto except in those areas containing the blowing inhibitor and release agent; heating the potentially foamable, resinous base layer to decompose or to activate the blowing agent in those portions of the potentially foamable, resinous base layer not lying under the blowing inhibitor and release agent, whereby such portions are blown and expand to extend and stretch upwardly so as to form upright walls of foamed, relatively lower

Abstract: A method of improving the bond between dissimilar synthetic polymeric materials, such as, for example, a vinyl resin material and a polyurethane or acrylated polyurethane resin material which comprises: including in the vinyl resin material a chemical compound possessing hydroxy, carboxy, amido, amino, imino, mercapto, or like functions containing reactive hydrogen; providing free, available isocyanate in the polyurethane or acrylated polyurethane resin material; bringing the vinyl resin material and the polyurethane or acrylated polyurethane resin material into contact; and exposing the vinyl resin material and the polyurethane, or acrylated polyurethane resin material, while in contact, to curing conditions, whereby there is sufficient chemical inter-reaction between these resin materials as to create a strong and permanent primary chemical bond therebetween, in addition to any secondary bonds, such as hydrogen bonds and/or van der Waals forces.

Abstract: Pile fabrics, which have been prepared from nylon carpet fibers having a textured or embossed surface induced by a chemical shrinking process for developing the texture of the fabric, involving selectively contacting the surface of certain areas of the carpet with a chemical fiber shrinking agent for the nylon fibers and allowing the shrinking action to occur, and thereafter, removing the shrinking agent from the fibers, the thus treated areas, thereafter, showing a reduced height of pile to create the texture of the fabric, are kept soft in the treated areas by simultaneously incorporating in the shrinking material, or of the dye composition used as a combination color and shrinking material, a protective agent compatible with the fiber and also one which is not destroyed by the chemical nature of the shrinking or dyeing compositon to maintain the shrunk fibers soft and pliant.
Abstract: Pile fabrics prepared from synthetic fibers having a textured or embossed surface resulting from a process which comprises selectively contacting the surface of said fabric with a chemical embossing agent therefor, allowing the embossing action to occur, and thereafter effectively removing the embossing agent from the surface; said embossing serving to reduce the height of the pile in the treated areas and creating said textured appearance.
Abstract: A method of improving the bond between dissimilar polymeric materials, such as, for example, a vinyl resin material and a polyurethane or acrylated polyurethane resin material, which comprises: including in the vinyl resin material an acrylate or an acrylated urethane; providing in the polyurethane or acrylated polyurethane resin material an organic peroxide or other UV or thermal activated free radical initiators; bringing the vinyl resin material and the polyurethane or acrylated polyurethane resin material into contact; and exposing the vinyl resin material and the polyurethane or acrylated polyurethane resin material, while in contact, to curing conditions in the presence of said organic peroxide or other UV or thermal activated free radical initiators, whereby there is sufficient chemical interreaction between these resin materials as to create a strong and permanent primary chemical bond therebetween, in addition to any secondary bonds, such as hydrogen bonds and/or van der Waals forces.
