  • Patent number: 5972303
Abstract: A process for purifying a fluid stream contaminated with carbon dioxide is provided which comprises contacting, under conditions sufficient to substantially remove the contaminated carbon dioxide from the fluid stream which contains at least one C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 olefin such as ethylene or propylene, with a composition containing an oxygen-containing metal compound such as, for example, an alkaline earth metal hydroxide. The contacting is carried out in the presence of water.

  • Patent number: 5965782
Abstract: A catalyst composition, a process for producing the composition and a process for transalkylation of C.sub.9 + aromatic compounds to C.sub.6 to C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbons are disclosed. The composition comprises a zeolite and tungsten wherein tungsten is preferably present as tungsten carbide which is impregnated on the zeolite. A preferred process for producing the catalyst composition which comprises: (1) contacting a zeolite with an effective amount of an acid under a condition sufficient to produce an acid-leached zeolite; and (2) impregnating acid-leached zeolite with an effective amount of tungsten-containing compound under a condition sufficient to effect the production of a tungsten carbide-promoted zeolite. The transalkylation process comprises contacting, in the presence of the catalyst composition, a fluid which comprises a C.sub.9 + aromatic compound with a hydrogen-containing fluid under a condition sufficient to effect the conversion of a C.sub.9 + aromatic compound to a C.sub.6 to C.sub.

  • Patent number: 5945371
Abstract: A catalyst composition and a process for hydrodealkylating a C.sub.9 + aromatic compound to a C.sub.6 to C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbon are disclosed. The composition comprises an alumina, molybdenum oxide, and zinc oxide. The process comprises contacting a fluid which comprises a C.sub.9 + aromatic compound with the catalyst composition under a condition sufficient to effect the conversion of a C.sub.9 + aromatic compound to a C.sub.6 to C.sub.8 aromatic hydrocarbon.

  • Patent number: 5894883
Abstract: There is provided a combination for use in a shell and tube heat exchanger which comprises: a shell having a substantially horizontally extending longitudinal axis and an open end; an annular distributor adjacent to the shell end and having an annular chamber defined therein in fluid communication with the shell interior through the shell end; a tubesheet longitudinally spaced from the shell end; a baffle cage having an interior portion in the shell interior and an exterior portion outside the shell between the tubesheet and shell end, wherein the baffle cage is longitudinally spaced from and unconnected to the tubesheet; a bundle of tubes extending from the tubesheet and through the baffle cage and shell interior; and a support member having a lower end fixedly connected to the interior surface of the annular distributor and an upper end contacting but not connected to the exterior portion of the baffle cage at a lowermost location thereof.

  • Patent number: 5788745
Abstract: A process for purifying a raw natural gas stream is provided by contacting the gas stream with an absorbant to remove water and hydrocarbon impurities, separating the water and hydrocarbon impurities and absorbant from the gas stream, separating the absorbant from the water and hydrocarbon impurities to provide a liquid absorbant stream and a water vapor and hydrocarbon vapor stream, condensing the water vapor and a portion of the hydrocarbon vapor stream to provide a mixed liquid/vapor stream, passing the mixed stream through a pump capable of pumping a mixed stream, and disposing of the thus-reduced volume, higher pressure, mixed stream. One aspect of the invention provides for the reintroduction of the mixed stream to the process with the raw natural gas, thereby eliminating volatile organic compound disposal concerns.
