Patent number: 6830121Abstract: A control system for increasing the fuel economy in a combustion engine by controlling the limit of turbo boost under a given set of conditions regarding vehicle speed. When a vehicle speed is above the manufactures drop-out speed, an intermediate set speed limit (between drop-out speed and cruise set speed) and a turbo boost limit is set. Turbo boost is limited to a specific pounds per square inch as long as the vehicle speed exceeds the intermediate set speed. By limiting the turbo boost, the fuel efficiency is increased while the vehicle is operating above the intermediate set speed. The vehicle FES can be designed to operate in an automatic mode, a semi-automatic mode or a manual mode, although an automatic mode of operation is most desirable.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2001Date of Patent: December 14, 2004Inventor: Robert E. Patent number: 6816042Abstract: An “inside out” process is used to make RF antennas and components or higher frequency components and/or optics. An electroformed single or multi layer of metal, such as copper, is applied to a reusable or disposable mandrel. Additional metal or composite components and/or pieces may be attached to the electroform by means of further electroforming, and/or applying adhesive and/or soldering. Any composite material (for example, fiberglass or carbon fiber reinforced plastic) is then applied selectively or uniformly around the electroform and/or additional components for structural reinforcement, and/or enhancement of thermal stability and/or thermal conductivity. The mandrel is then removed by physical or chemical means. Adhesion over temperature and humidity extremes, surface finish, uniform metalization thickness, and surface electrical conductivity are all vastly improved over equivalent electroplated composites.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignees: Applied Aerospace Structures Corp., Custom Microwave Inc.Inventors: Michael J. Patent number: 6798374Abstract: Disclosed is a Doppler shifted radar apparatus for correct target identification with respect to surveillance of moving vehicles. More particularly, an improved radar detection system using two or more continuously transmitted frequencies is used. The multiple frequencies are directed toward target vehicles whereby the phase difference of the two or more reflected Doppler signals is calculated and subsequently used to accurately determine a target range, thereby displaying the closest vehicle and closest vehicle speed. Vehicle speed is determined with use of the standard Doppler frequency shift. The next closest and/or next faster vehicle speed can also be easily determined.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2002Date of Patent: September 28, 2004Assignee: Decatur Electronics Inc.Inventor: Kimble Jon Smith

Patent number: 6786103Abstract: The present invention relates to water meters for the installation in pipe lines of a nominal width-group and a method for operating such water meters, which operate according to the Woltmann principle. The present invention addresses the problem of avoiding the calibration expenditures for each of the nominal widths of the nominal width-group and the disadvantages entailed therein. The solution of this problem, stated generally, is that in the water meters at the relevant site, namely in the annular channel (16) directly in front of the impeller wheel (8), independently of the nominal width of the connected pipe line, a substantially rectangular velocity distribution (19) obtains with stream lines directed substantially parallel to the wall of the annular channel (16), with these flow conditions being substantially identical at identical throughflows.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2002Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: Sensus Metering Systems GmbH HannoverInventors: Holger Kuhlemann, Karsten Nettemann, Eckhard Kuhn

Patent number: 6786542Abstract: An improved design in bicycle, unicycle or tricycle seats as related an articulating, adjustable resistance seat, which acts in reducing perineal pressure, providing support to proper parts of the pelvis while allowing variable seat resistance adjustments and width adjustments according to the anatomy of the rider. The ability to allow an upward/downward movement of the seat with downward resistance provides the rider with an energy assist when the leg is moving in the upward position. This action will result in less fatigue to the rider especially when engaged in racing over long periods. Resistance can be applied by a spring, spring-hinge, torsion bar or other means.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2003Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Inventor: Joseph Nuzzarello

Patent number: 6703805Abstract: An electric system utilizes dynamic impedance changes in windings of an electric motor to measure/monitor mechanical position. The method employs a bridge amplifier to measure voltage at a center node or windings against a voltage derived from a reference network. When a winding of the motor is driven, the winding forms a voltage divider across the center node. Impedance changes in windings occur as rotor poles pass by stator poles. The center node voltage varies with these impedance changes in legs on either side; this variation with respect to the reference network corresponds to measurement of rotational position. These measurements provide position/velocity feedback to a servo controller as long as current runs through a winding. This position sensing also applies to controlling commutation for brushless DC motor. Impedance measurement use normal motor-drive current for excitation without additional sensing signals, extra “sense” windings, or external sensors.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2002Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: Mountain Engineering II, Inc.Inventor: Jonathan C.
