Patent number: 8351493Abstract: A folding adaptive equalizer is provided. The equalizer comprises an equalizer core and an automatic gain control loop. The equalizing transfer function of the equalizer core is modulated by one or more gain control signals generated by the automatic gain control loop and by a folding signal generated by the automatic gain control loop. When the folding signal is inactive, an increase in the gain control signals produces an increase in the high-frequency, high-bandwidth gain of the transfer function of the equalizer core. When the folding signal is active, further gain can be applied by decreasing the gain control signals, which produces a frequency-shift in the transfer function of the equalizer core toward lower bandwidth and an increase in the high-frequency, low-bandwidth gain of the transfer function of the equalizer core.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2008Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Gennum CorporationInventors: Hossein Shakiba, Mansour Shashaani

Patent number: 8341709Abstract: Rather than managing a certificate chain related to a newly issued identity certificate at a terminal to which a wireless device occasionally connects, a certificate server can act to determine the identity certificates in a certificate chain related to the newly issued identity certificate. The certificate server can also act to obtain the identity certificates and transmit the identity certificates towards the device that requested the newly issued identity certificate. A mail server may receive the newly issued identity certificate and the identity certificates in the certificate chain and manage the timing of the transmittal of the identity certificates. By transmitting the identity certificates in the certificate chain before transmitting the newly issued identity certificate, the mail server allows the user device to verify the authenticity of the newly issued identity certificate.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 2009Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: Cheryl Mok, Van Quy Tu

Patent number: 8331557Abstract: Execution of the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) requires determination of a signature, which determination involves arithmetic operations. Some of the arithmetic operations employ a long term cryptographic key. It is the execution of these arithmetic operations that can make the execution of the ECDSA vulnerable to a power analysis attack. In particular, an attacker using a power analysis attack may determine the long term cryptographic key. By modifying the sequence of operations involved in the determination of the signature and the inputs to those operations, power analysis attacks may no longer be applied to determine the long term cryptographic key.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2011Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventor: Nevine Maurice Nassif Ebeid
