Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with a tannery primary treatment process that, in total combination, or as separate sub-process features, enables the reducing of BOD loading in such treatment, while increasing the efficiency of hexavalent chrome recovery therefrom by separating out alkaline sulfide solids from the normal unhairing beamhouse stage and utilizing the same to attain appropriate sedimentation tank sludge pH for oxidation of the chrome to the hexavalent state during incineration; and/or increasing the hexavalent chrome recovery by backwetting and roasting the ash again; and/or enabling use of such ash for recycling as a chrome tanning liquor with the side-production of an improved flocculating chrome water wash for waste treatment use.

Abstract: A process is disclosed in which low energy electrons are used chemically to graft phosphorous or halogen-rich double bonded molecules and the like into natural and synthetic materials to render the same flame retarding.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with rendering more flexible and useful the fare computations and dispatching services in the taxi industry and the like, by a novel type of centralized computed control of and cooperating and interfacing with, vehicular meters, enabling overlapping multiple-location pick-up and delivery for a plurality of customers and with automatic route, time, traffic condition and related information and/or corrections remotely introduced into the meter calculations and display.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with a new technique for automatically measuring impedance (though the process is also applicable to other parameters and characteristics as well) wherein a series of voltages are sequentially presented to a common detector and analog-to-digital converter, the numerical values of which voltages are of themselves meaningless, but from which, with the aid of microprocessor calculating equipment, ratios may be calculated that indicate impedance (or other parameters).
Abstract: This invention deals with a novel process of manufacturing chitosan from chitin with reduced temperatures, increased reaction rates involving higher alkali-to-solids deacetylation ratios, and a quiescent air-expelled final deacetylation step. Recovery of the alkali is also attainable.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with novel current-tracing of short circuits in printed circuit boards and similar systems by novel test excitation of the conductors with tracing of the phase polarities of the fields generated therein.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with novel approximations to sine-wave sampling by successive measurements and digital conversion in phase-sensitive detection circuits, simplifying switching requirements and providing harmonic immunity.
Abstract: This disclosure deals with measuring either discontinuous or continuous impedance transitions in various media to identify or delineate the properties and nature thereof by transmitting radiant energy waves to such media to produce reflected waves therefrom, deconvoluting the outgoing and returning waves, and integrating the resulting reflection impulse-response function so as to enable appropriate interpretation of the resulting display for identification and related purposes.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with a process for treating chitin under certain moisturized conditions with microwave energy to increase its reactivity in general, and when in appropriate alkali, to accelerate the deacetylation thereof. Highly active chitin products or derivatives are thus produced.
Abstract: The invention is concerned with novel pre-stressing of a reflecting surface such as a mirror, that is to be irradiated by a high energy laser beam or similar source, in such a manner that the beam-induced heating of the reflective surface causes a relaxation of the pre-stress that is designed to produce a surface distortion substantially equal and opposite to that caused by the heating.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with the improvement of motor-driven elevating apparatus for television receiver tables and the like residing in a novel drive transmission embodying notched pulleys and belts for controlling a screw drive, with a braking system actuable only upon the lowering of the table surface or platform.
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with methods of and apparatus for constructing cylindrical structures such as large-diameter pipes for the transport of materials in ocean mining and the like, whereby one or more rolls of previously prepared sheet materials are wound around a core in a cross-wise fashion and bonded and treated by chemical and physical processes from a special floating platform that enables such construction operation in situ on the high seas.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with improvements in mechanisms for elevating a mattress on a bed by a simple inflatable pillow inserted under the mattress and of novel prismatic geometrical construction enabling highly flexible adaptability of use and simplicity of operation.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with adapting helical electrode-grounding electrode signal recording apparatus, normally suitable for wet paper signal recording, alternatively to operate with dry coated recording paper of the type previously recordable upon by point stylii and the like, through a combination of novel signal feeding circuits, electrode shaping, paper orientation and electrode pressure.
Abstract: This disclosure deals with novel clamping structures for stagger-joining wall panels as of the translucent sandwich type and the like, provided with panel overlapping clamping elements having weather sealants and adapted to be threadedly locked in offset position.
Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with employing substantially orthogonal transducer arrays with substantially complementary fan-shaped beams for pin-pointing underwater objects and the like.

Abstract: This disclosure is concerned with using different types of energy to probe for objects in media (such as water) in which one of the different types (such as acoustic energy) is more facilely propagated than another (such as light), so as to enable said one type of energy to monitor for objects of predetermined characteristics within range of another type of energy propagation and, upon detection of such, to direct the other type of energy to indicate such objects, and enable correlation of the indications of the same by both types of energy.
Abstract: This disclosure deals with novel very fine, particulated colloidal platinum of the 15-25 Angstrom size range of unusual catalytic activity and particularly adapted for adsorption upon various substrata, and produced from a new platinum sulfite acid and a sol derived therefrom.
Abstract: This disclosure deals with novel techniques for generating longitudinal strips of energetic electron beams through concentric slotted constructions, being quite adaptable for the generation of multiple beams in different directions that are of very narrow angular transverse extent, as for purposes of line irradiation of articles passing the beams, though the techniques herein disclosed are also useful in other applications of electron beam irradiation.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to novel iodine-polyvinylpyrrolidone products in which, by novel preparation methods, the iodine is adherently bound within solid polyvinylpyrrolidone, with solidified cinnamic alcohol adherently distributed therethrough and, in preferred instances, with solidified tannic acid adherently dispersed therewithin, and all in preferred proportions.
