  • Patent number: 5618978
Abstract: A method of producing a choline having a high purity without containing by-products by using a molecule-inclusion complex of the choline as a starting material. A choline inclusion complex without containing by-products is obtained by reacting an aqueous solution of the choline containing, as by-products, those cholines to which are added ethylene oxides with host molecules such as of 1,1'-bis-.beta.-naphthol, and is further reacted with a carbon dioxide gas in order to obtain an aqueous solution of a choline carbonate and/or a choline bicarbonate of a high purity, which is then subjected to the electrolysis using a cation-exchange membrane as a diaphragm, in order to obtain an aqueous solution of the choline of a high purity without containing by-products. The choline that is obtained is a strongly basic compound having a high purity and is very useful as a photoresist-developing solution.

  • Patent number: 5614562
Abstract: Organoselenones of the formulaR.sub.1 --Se(O.sub.2)--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --Xwherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of aryl, vinyl, acetylenyl, and aralkyl, n is an integer equal to 2 to 6 and X is a leaving group selected from the group consisting of halides, sulfonates and selenones; were surprisingly found to be useful as alkylating agents which possessed a high degree of selectivity for nitrogen nucleophiles without the usual increased preference for sulfur nucleophiles. This property allows the effective use of these compounds as anti-cancer alkylating agents suitable for use in drug-resistant cell lines which display either thiol mediated drug resistance or MER(+)-mediated drug resistance. Two methods of synthesizing these compounds are also provided.

  • Patent number: 5568022
Abstract: An integrated compliance electrohydraulic servovalve system connected to a load such as a simulated living being to provide more realistic movement thereto. The system includes a pressure transducer for sensing the pressure appearing at the output of the electrohydraulic servovalve and which is applied to an actuator connected to the load. The pressure as sensed is developed into a corresponding electrical signal which is used as a feed back signal to the drive motor of the electrohydraulic servovalve. The actuator position signal is also provided and is summed with the position command input signal to provide the command signal which is also summed with the pressure signal prior to application to the drive motor. The utilization of the pressure feed back signal provides compliance to the over all system resulting in a realistic movement of the simulated living being.

  • Patent number: 5551482
Abstract: Disclosed is a direct drive servovalve having a molded plastic housing. A metal sleeve having a spool valve slidably disposed therein is placed within opposed cavities formed within opposite housing halves. The housing halves are brought together under pressure and an ultrasonic horn is activated. Energy directing beads formed on the housing halves as well as interfering surfaces about the periphery melt under a pressure and ultrasonic energy allowing the two housing halves to move toward each other and mate. Upon deactivation of the ultrasonic horn, the molten plastic material cools and forms a seal about flow ports in the metallic sleeve as well as a fusion bond about the periphery of the housing.
