Abstract: A movable aisle storage system is provided having rail and panel connector units which perform the dual functions of forming the rails and interconnecting the deck panels of the system track and deck assembly. Each connector unit has a substantially cylindrical rail portion and a depending support portion having a pair of upwardly and outwardly extending flange sections which support and secure the sides of the deck panels. Levelling screws threadedly engaging the unit support portion are seated in a channel to facilitate system installation and prevent floor damage. Flexible seal strips are used between the rails and panels thereby reducing system maintenance and permitting access to the levelling screws after system installation. Rail sections are joined to form an extended track by a self-tightening rail section joiner having a pair of tapered head machine screws which threadedly engage holes in abutting rail sections. A joiner member overlies the rail section holes and has openings to receive the screws.
Abstract: A clamping device is provided having a pair of outwardly curved arms with pivotally mounted clamping jaws at one end thereof. A rotatable leverage screw threadedly engages pivot members which are pivotally mounted at the other end of the arms. A rotatable fulcrum screw threadedly engages pivot members which are pivotally mounted on the arms intermediate the ends thereof, so that rotation of the fulcrum screw causes the arms to rotate about the pivot members associated with the leverage screw to open and close the jaws at a suitably high speed and rotation of the leverage screw causes the arms to rotate about the pivot members associated with the fulcrum screw to open and close the jaws with the force required to obtain a good clamping action.
Abstract: An automatic cocking device is provided for a chiropractic table of the type having a pivotally mounted pelvic support section which is adapted to be cocked to an elevated position by rotation of a cocking shaft and adapted to be tripped to a dropped position by chiropractic thrusts. The cocking device has an electric motor which is connected through a speed reducing gear train and an eccentric mechanical linkage to a crank which is mounted on the cocking shaft of the table, so that the cocking shaft is rotated to cock the pelvic support section. The electric motor is controlled by a parallel-connected circuit having at least one foot-operated switch and a cam follower switch which is actuated by a cam driven by the output shaft of the speed reducer, so that the output shaft which drives the eccentric linkage makes substantially one full revolution upon actuation of the foot-operated switch.
Abstract: Apparatus for storing and baling newspapers is provided having an imperforate rectangular shelf supported by vertically-disposed legs which extend beyond the top side of the shelf to form an open-sided container for the stack of newspapers. The shelf top side has a longitudinally-extending groove and three laterally-extending grooves which are adapted to receive a threading rod having a notch at one end thereof. With a stack of newspapers on the shelf, the end of the baling string is held in the notch and is pushed through the grooves, so that one longitudinal tie and either one, two, or three lateral ties may be made for each bale. The legs are secured to the shelf by self-locking connecting means. One of the legs is graduated with a vertically-extending scale expressing the height of the stack of newspapers in terms of the approximate weight of the stack. A magazine storage shelf, a holder for a roll of baling string and a peg for storing the threading rod are also provided.
Abstract: Fuse adapter terminals are provided for fuse holders of the type having a pair of spaced-apart spring clips which receive the ends of a cylindrical fuse. The basic adapter terminal comprises a substantially U-shaped member of electrically-conductive, resilient material which has two legs which are joined by an outwardly-curved central portion. Each leg has a first outwardly-curved lobe which is adjacent the central portion and which cooperates therewith to form an arcuate surface which is disposed in one of the fuse holder spring clips. Each leg also has a second outwardly-curved lobe which is adjacent the free end of the leg. The second lobes are oppositely disposed and cooperate with each other to receive one end of the fuse therebetween so that when a pair of the basic adapter terminals are utilized, each end of the fuse is mechanically supported by and electrically connected to the spring clip associated therewith.
Abstract: A blockage prevention device is provided for ileal conduit urine collection systems of the type having a flexible bag which is coupled to the ileal conduit stoma of a patient to receive urine therefrom. The bag has an outlet located in the neck portion thereof for draining the collected urine to a storage receptacle. The prevention device comprises an elongated member having a fluid-conducting passageway extending therethrough and a plurality of helically-disposed apertures extending through the walls of the member. The member is disposed in the interior of the bag and serves to connect that portion of the interior of the bag lying outside of the neck portion with the bag outlet, so that urine collected in the bag because of a blockage in the neck portion will drain through the member to the bag outlet. The end of the member which is disposed in the bag outlet is provided with a fitting having a collar portion which abuts the bag outlet to limit insertion of the member into the bag.
Abstract: A sheeting installation system is provided for installing trench wall support sheeting during the excavation of trenches and the like. A rectangular frame is formed by a pair of sheeting support wall members which are secured to a pair of spreader members disposed at the opposite ends of the wall members. Each wall member has a modular construction and several vertically-disposed sheeting support slots which extend through the member from top to bottom. The slots are overlapped and each slot slidably receives a sheeting section which is driven into the earth so that it projects a distance beneath the bottom of the frame but still has a portion of its length remaining in the slot to provide cantilever support for the section against the force exerted by the walls of the trench. Since the slots in each wall member are overlapped, the sheeting sections will be driven into the earth in overlapping relationship.
Abstract: Game apparatus is provided having a playing board with a series of alleys extending between two opposing players at opposite ends of the board. The alleys are defined by pairs of ball-guiding rails on the board. Ball projectors are provided at each end of each of the alleys and vision-obstructing dividers having openings therein for the alleys are disposed across the alleys so that each player can shoot balls into selected alleys of the opposing player and the opposing player will not know which alleys have been selected until the balls actually pass through the divider. Each player has ball diverters for his section of each alley to divert balls propelled toward him by the opposing player to a dead ball space and prevent the balls from reaching the end zone of the alley.
Abstract: Mixing apparatus is provided having a motor driven rotating head which is suspended above a fixed mixing bowl. A guide post is pivotally mounted on the head for oscillative rotation about the axis of rotation of the head and eccentric drive means are mounted on the head and spaced from the guide post. A connecting rod has one end thereof connected to the eccentric drive and is slidably received by the guide post to produce said oscillative rotation of the guide post and a slidable oscillation of the rod relative to the guide post. A mixing paddle has an arm portion pivotally connected to the guide post for oscillative rotation therewith and oscillative swinging about an axis transverse of the axis of oscillative rotation. Link means pivotally connect the paddle arm portion and the other end of the rod to produce said oscillative swinging of the paddle.
Abstract: A gas scrubber is provided for the removal of particulates and chemical contaminants from air and other gases. The particulates and chemical contaminants are removed from gas drawn through the scrubber, by inertial separation, spraying with water or liquid chemicals, and filtering techniques. A throat section of adjustable cross-sectional area is utilized in the scrubber to provide optimum air velocity and turbulence for maximum scrubbing efficiency over a wide range of air handling capacities. The cross-sectional area of the throat is adjusted by controlling the level of the liquid in a liquid-filled sump which is provided for the spray water or liquor. Removable filter baskets of variable depth are utilized during final treatment of the air or gas being cleaned.
Abstract: A meat extender is derived from wheat kernels and is added to meats such as beef, pork, lamb, fowl and fish to increase the supply thereof. The kernels are boiled and dried to a moisture content of about 20%. The dried kernels are subjected to kneading and grinding operations which develop the gluten structure and cause the material to have a meat-like texture. The material is then dried to about a sixteen per cent moisture content and suitable meat flavors and nutritional supplements are added to produce a food product which closely resembles ground meat in appearance, taste, texture and nutritional value.
