  • Patent number: 7875111
Abstract: The invention provides anti-skinning compositions for use in manufacturing oil-based coating materials. The novel anti-skinning compositions are clear, homogeneous solutions of cyclohexanone oxime that can be prepared by dissolving cyclohexanone oxime in a suitable carboxylic acid or mixture of carboxylic acids. Suitable carboxylic acids include fatty acids, such as fatty acids of tall oil distillate. Surprisingly, the fatty acids are useful as delivery solvents over a useful range of temperatures and have desirable flash points. They are compatible with many oil-based coating materials. The anti-skinning compositions and manufacturing methods of the present invention are especially useful in the manufacture of oil-based paints containing metal carboxylate driers.

  • Patent number: 7842745
Abstract: Non-yellowing degassing compositions which enhance degassing in powder coatings and other film-forming curable coatings are disclosed. The non-yellowing compositions contain degassing agents including a plurality of unfused aromatic rings and at least one functional group selected from ketals, carbamates, carbonates and carboxylic acid esters. The degassing agents resist decomposition and discoloration, and are relatively stable at resin curing conditions. The degassing agents may be synergistically combined with other materials, such as fatty acid amide-containing waxes, to produce new and surprisingly effective degassing compositions suitable for use in powder coatings. Curable compositions which utilize the new degassing compositions are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7652048
Abstract: Highly concentrated, water-based dispersions of certain lipophilic and/or hydrophobic antimicrobially active materials are stabilized to a surprising degree by a surfactant combination including a nonionic acrylic graft copolymer surfactant and a alkoxylated polyarylphenol phosphate ester surfactant. The active materials may be present in dispersion concentrates of the present invention singly or in useful combinations. The active materials are selected from the group of fungicides and bactericides consisting of 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one; 2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one; 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one; 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one; pyrithione zinc; 3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate; 2-methylthio-4-ethylamino-6-tert-butylamino-s-triazine; and 3-(4-isopropylphenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea, and mixtures thereof. The dispersion concentrates may be efficiently shipped and stored, and subsequently diluted with water to produce less concentrated dispersions when desired.

  • Patent number: 7323044
Abstract: The invention provides co-solvents for preparing clear solutions of a biocidal agent known as 10, 10?-oxybisphenoxarsine (OBPA). The clear solutions are stable over a relatively broad range of temperatures and have very low Volatile Organic Carbon (VOC) content. They can be included in master batches for the manufacture of plastic materials, such as flexible PVC. The co-solvents of this invention have very low VOC values, do not have troublesome odors, do not cause significant irritation during the high temperature plastic manufacturing process, and are miscible in a range of useful concentrations with plasticizers presently employed by plastics manufacturers. The use of castor oil and/or modified castor oils such as glyceryl ricinoleate, dehydrated castor oil, and certain alkoxylated castor oils as a co-solvent to increase the dissolvable concentration of OBPA, alone or in solution with a plasticizer, was not known or expected.

  • Patent number: 6250938
Abstract: An electrical connector includes insulative housing with a slot for receiving an auxiliary circuit card, a pair of pivotable ejectors for ejecting the circuit card, and pair of fasteners for mounting the connector to a primary circuit board. Each of the fasteners is anchored within the housing and includes a projecting mounting portion that is insertably mountable in a mounting aperture in the primary circuit board. Each of the ejectors is pivotably mounted on an ejector retaining portion of the fastener. In an embodiment, the ejector retaining portion of the fastener is formed by two resilient beams arranged parallel to each other. The ejector fits between the beams. At a free end of each beam, a protrusion is formed which is held in a biased manner inwardly against a cooperative detent in a side of the ejector. The ejector is held pivotably by the opposed protrusions riding within the detents. The arrangement facilitates a slim design of the connector, occupying less space.

  • Patent number: 6203376
Abstract: A wafer connector for connecting cables to a pin header has a connector body portion that incorporates a strain relief member applied to the cables as part of the connector body portion. The strain relief member includes a cable clamp having a series of grooves that are separated by intervening land portions. The grooves receive the cables and space them in a particular spacing. The leads of the cable are terminated to corresponding tail portions of contacts of the connector. These tail portions are maintained in the same plane to enhance the electrical performance of the connector. An insulative material is molded over the tail portions and the cable clamp to form a connector with a cable clamp formed integrally with the body of the connector.

  • Patent number: 6168708
Abstract: The present invention provides for a method for recovering and recycling a hydrocarbon residue from a petroleum material such as crude oil, where the hydrocarbon residue is a waxy solid material. The method comprises providing the hydrocarbon residue in a first vessel; heating a sufficient amount of an organic solvent in a second vessel at an effective temperature for an effective period of time; removing the hydrocarbon residue from the first vessel and adding the hydrocarbon residue to the heated solvent in the second vessel; simultaneously mixing and heating the hydrocarbon residue and the solvent in the second vessel at an effective temperature for an effective period of time to cause a reaction between the hydrocarbon residue and the solvent to produce a liquefied hydrocarbon residue product; pumping the liquefied hydrocarbon residue product out of the second vessel and into a third vessel; and, recycling the liquefied hydrocarbon residue into a usable oil refinery product.

  • Patent number: 6166266
Abstract: A particularly useful process which includes the steps of providing a source of formaldehyde formed by conversion of methanol in the presence of a catalyst comprising oxides of molybdenum as an essential catalyst component; and contacting the source of formaldehyde and a predominately dimethyl ether feedstream with a heterogeneous, condensation promoting catalyst capable of hydrating dimethyl ether under conditions of reaction sufficient to form an effluent comprising water, methanol, formaldehyde, dimethyl ether, and polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers is disclosed. Unreacted dimethyl ether is recovered from the effluent and recycled to the formation of polyoxymethylene dimethyl ethers.
