  • Patent number: 4550799
Abstract: A muffler for dissipating the sound component in exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine or the like is disclosed which has an enhanced useful life. The muffler includes a partition positioned across an incoming stream of exhaust gases. The partition is formed with stream dividing or splitting means which positively divides the stream into portions that can be more evenly directed throughout the muffler. This prevents destructive preferential flow of gases within the muffler. Additionally, shielding of sound absorption material in the muffler is accomplished by selecting the pattern of perforations to reduce the contact of such material with high velocity gases.

  • Patent number: 4537421
Abstract: A foldable dolly in which the arms are rotatably mounted to the frame preferably by means of interengaging sleeves formed with opposed ramps and opposed shoulders and positioned in relatively vertical alignment such that the ramps and shoulders of the first sleeve mate with the ramps and shoulders of the second sleeve. The sleeves are thereby found to permit rotation of the arms between a folded, collapsed position and an extended deployed position, while at the same time providing enhanced rigidity and stability of the arms at the extended, deployed position.

  • Patent number: 4523713
Abstract: An improved thermally actuated diffuser is disclosed. The diffuser comprises three thermal sensor actuators. A first thermal sensor actuator is responsive to changes in the room air temperature and is engaged when cool air is supplied through the duct into the room. A third thermal sensor actuator is responsive to changes in the room air temperature and is engaged when warm air is supplied to the room. A second thermal sensor actuator is responsive to changes in the duct air temperature and brings either the first or second thermal sensor actuator into engagement with the diffuser when the appropriate temperature of air is supplied through the duct and disengages the thermal actuator not being used with that duct air temperature.

  • Patent number: 4516455
Abstract: The invention concerns a three-knife trimmer, in which for the purpose of cutting on three sides stacks of books, brochures, or the like, first the side knives and then the front knife, or vice versa, are operated to carry out the cut by a single-revolution shaft, during one revolution, by means of intermediate gears at a single location, whereby the drive system for the knives consists of a guide unit and an operating unit preceding it, which operating unit is comprised of a gear unit (13, 14, 15, 16, 17) with a gear ratio that changes during one revolution of the single-revolution shaft (12). This yields a simple gear system with few parts that is simple in construction, is stable in the path of transmission and shows a harmonic motion pattern, so that the machine can operate at high speeds.

  • Patent number: 4515069
Abstract: A thermally powered change-over diffuser is disclosed which includes a housing having an outlet and movable blade assembly mounted with respect to the outlet for displacement between a first position producing a Coanda flow across a surface, such as a ceiling, and a second position producing a detached stream in a generally normally extending direction with respect to the surface. The diffuser is preferably thermally powered and includes a rapid change-over assembly enabling substantially immediate shifting between the two positions so as to provide a cooling mode of discharge and heating mode of discharge. Additionally, means for adjusting the volume of air discharged is provided.

  • Patent number: 4505173
Abstract: The invention concerns a three-knife cutting machine, in which dogs on a conveying chain in machine tempo transport the material to be cut from a magazine and into a transfer station, in which pushers moveable in the direction of transport take over the material to be cut and transport it up against stops in the cutting station, in which besides two back stops two stops for the head and foot sides of the delivered cutting material are provided, whereby the stops are moveable in machine tempo back into the transfer station and again into the cutting station and, for transport of the cut material from the cutting station, further stops are located before the first stops in the direction of transport and capable of moving together with the latter, the further stops being located at such a distance from the first stops that the further stops assume a carrying position in the cutting station for the cut material which is lying there when the first stops are located in the transfer station, and whereby all stops ca

  • Patent number: 4492416
Abstract: The wheel mounting of the present invention is designed particularly for use in cable car structures at intersecting street corners, that is, where the cable is carried around a curve. The structure comprises, briefly, a pair of normally vertically spaced horizontally extending supporting pleats and a vertical shaft fixed to the plates and which journals a cable supporting wheel, the later being thus normally mounted to rotate in a horizontal plane. The structure is intended for mounting in below ground surface at the elevation of and to support the car driving cable. Of particular importance is the provision in mounting of a bearing in the wheel hub surrounding the shaft and which has an outer race at the hub wall of the wheel and an inner race at the shaft, the two races being rigidly clamped to the hub and shaft so as to positively confine the forces imposed on the bearing to those forces which the bearing is designed to withstand without undue heating, wear or deterioration.

  • Patent number: 4483677
Abstract: A flexible clasp for removable mounting of a partial dental prosthesis to an abutment tooth is disclosed. The clasp includes a retention arm (42) formed to extend around at least a portion of the side of an abutment tooth (27) to retain the prosthesis in an edentulous space (26). In the improved clasp (41), the retention arm (42) is coupled to the prosthesis at a location in the edentulous space, preferably about one tooth width from abutment tooth (27) so as to cantilever support the retention arm (42) for resilient lateral displacement with respect to the abutment tooth. Preferably, a resiliently displaceable tubular member (51) is mounted to the retention arm (42) which is held to the prosthesis by a clip (43) surrounding the tubular member (51) and arm (42).
