Abstract: A tape cartridge contains a spool of tape with a leader block on one end that inserts into a tape storage reel. The tape has a leader segment that is attached to the leader block and a media segment that is attached to the leader segment with a small piece of adhesive tape. The leader tape is much thicker and stiffer than the media segment, but is only a few meters long. The media segment is a thin, high capacity magnetic tape that fills the remainder of the cartridge. The leader block is loaded into the reel and the leader segment is wound around the hub to create several protective layers prior to winding the magnetic tape on the reel. The leader tape reduces the wear on the magnetic tape during loading and unloading, and reduces the effect of any discontinuity formed between the leader block and the hub.

Abstract: A data processing controlled display system for the interactive display and control of operations through a displayed tree having a plurality of items to be acted upon, wherein a parent item at one level has at least one child item at the next lower level, and means for enabling a modification of at least one property of all of the child items by enabling a designation of the modification of the property at the parent level without the modification of any property of the parent item. The system also has means for enabling the modification of the properties of at least one of the child items independently of any designation of modification made at the parent level.

Abstract: A computer media tape cartridge has a multiple volume selector switch with a plurality of positions which allow a user to physically segment the tape into a corresponding number of sections for more efficient use of the tape. By moving the switch to a desired position, the user may select and use the tracks in one or all of the positions on the tape. These positions include an "all position" wherein the tape is a single volume for reading and writing data, and individual positions wherein only the selected position is available for reading or writing data to the tape. Using the cartridge in the latter manner physically segments tape into four separate volumes. The cartridge is used in a tape drive having a plurality of sensors for detecting the position of the switch.
