  • Patent number: 5577356
Abstract: A pre-cut building structure and method of erecting the same, wherein there is a plurality of vertical columns, each having vertically aligned grooves to receive end portions of related timbers. The columns are located, and the wall sections are formed by stacking the timbers in aligned slots of pairs of columns. The timbers are bonded to one another and to the columns to form the building structure, and loads on the building structure that would tend to deform the wall structure in a plane parallel to the length of the timbers are resisted by the bonded connections between the timbers.

  • Patent number: 5566473
Abstract: A processing roll adapted to engage paper or the like to heat and/or shape the same. The roll has a cylindrical side wall and defines a interior condensing chamber for steam. The interior surface of the roll is formed with longitudinal grooves which slope away from the longitudinal axis toward a central location. The steam condensates in the chamber, collects in the grooves, and flows toward a center location where the condensate is siphoned out and removed from the chamber. Improved heat transfer is achieved, and greater uniformity of heat is accomplished at the outside surface.

  • Patent number: 5565061
Abstract: A wood pulp digester comprising a containing structure defining a digesting chamber in which wood chips and processing liquor are contained under pressure. Liquor is moved from a liquor removal region in the digester through a strainer. Periodically a cleaning solvent is directed under pressure in a counterflow direction through the strainer to remove scaling that may tend to accumulate on the strainer.

  • Patent number: 5544847
Abstract: A leading edge slat wing combination where the slat is mounted to a pair of circularly curved carrier tracks positioned within the outer surface contour of the fixed wing. In moving from the cruise configuration to the take-off and climb configuration and thus to the fully deployed landing configuration, the slat has a fixed angular orientation relative to the carrier track. This eliminates the need for auxiliary track assemblies of the prior art that are used in addition to the carrier tracks to change the angular position of the slat for the high lift configuration. Also, in two embodiments, the slat, in the take-off and climb configuration, forms a gap or slot with the fixed wing, and the gap or slot is sealed in the vicinity of the carrier tracks.

  • Patent number: 5482410
Abstract: A drill and countersink tool having a drill bit member fixedly attached to a mounting member. The mounting member has exterior threads by which it is ajustably mounted in a countersink member in a manner that the drill bit extends downwardly from the countersink member. A lock nut is threaded onto the mounting member to come into locking engagement with the countersink member. By loosingly the lock nut, the position of the drill bit and the mounting member can be adjusted for different drill lengths.

  • Patent number: 5482594
Abstract: A pulp dewatering and washing apparatus comprising a pressure vessel in which is contained a table assembly having a foraminous surface, in the form of a conveying belt, on which a pulp slurry is deposited. A differential pressure chamber in the table assembly is vented to a lower pressure location to cause a pressure differential across the pulp slurry to cause dewatering. Also, wash water is deposited on the dewatered pulp in sequential cycles to accomplish washing. A contact plate is provided to press the pulp slurry to aid in dewatering. The conveying belt of the table assembly on which the pulp slurry is deposited is stationary during the dewatering and washing, and then after the pressure differential between the vessel and the pressure differential chamber is reduced to zero, the conveyor belt moves the dewatered and washed slurry to a discharge location.

  • Patent number: 5460161
Abstract: An apparatus and method for heating and delivering water by use of a campfire, comprising drawing water from a first kettle through a supply hose to a heat exchanger that is placed in the campfire. The water in the heat exchanger boils to cause a discharge of water upwardly through a delivery tube to a collecting kettle, after which the pressure in the heat exchanger drops to cause a further supply of water to be drawn from the supply kettle to the heat exchanger. Thus, quantities of hot water (e.g. a cupful in each quantity) can be discharged at short intervals (45 seconds or so) to supply cups of hot water for a beverage such as coffee, tea, etc. Other embodiments are arranged to draw water from a lower location up to the heat exchanger and then pump the water upwardly to a storage container.

  • Patent number: 5450983
Abstract: An aerosol spray texture apparatus to dispense a spray texture material having particulate matter therein against a ceiling or other surface. There is a container having a spray texture material in the lower portion thereof, and inert compressed gas in the upper part of the container. A dispensing valve at the top of the container is depressed to cause the spray texture material to travel upwardly through a dispensing tube and from the valve onto the ceiling surface.

  • Patent number: 5426362
Abstract: An apparatus to detect damage in the metallic magnetically permeable reinforcing cables in a conveyor belt. The apparatus includes a field coil to generate a magnetic field passing through the cables, and Hall effect sensors to detect change in reluctance in the field adjacent to the conveyor belt. The conveyor belt is moved relative to the apparatus so that when there is a damaged area, this will change the reluctance path, which changes the field intensity and is in turn detected by the Hall effect sensors.

  • Patent number: 4353517
Abstract: An airfoil having a trailing edge flap assembly comprising a fore flap and an aft flap. A fixed mounting structure is positioned below the flaps when in their stowed position, and there is a first common link pivotally connected to the mounting structure and to each of the two flaps. A second link interconnects the mounting structure with the fore flap, and a third link connects a mounting arm of the fore flap to the aft flap. Thus, the common link forms with the second link and upwardly extending four-bar linkage to move the fore flap to its deployed position, and the common link forms with the third link a second upwardly extending four-bar linkage which deploys the aft flap to its extended position.

  • Patent number: 4127216
Abstract: A venting closure assembly extending across an access opening on the top part of a tank, particularly a milk tank. There is a venting closure member having perimeter flange members which fit against a support ring of the milk tank to form one or more circumferential venting channels. A cover having a vent opening fits over the closure member and engages the peripheral portions thereof to form a circumferential seal against the support ring. The venting channel or channels connect to circumferentially spaced openings on the flanges to provide venting from inside the tank to the area outside the tank, while preventing both spilling of the milk and contamination from outside sources.

  • Patent number: 4085495
Abstract: Providing vertically erect sets of oppositely positioned forming panels, with the sets being interconnected by means of tie rods and wedging plates. Some of the wedging plates are positioned adjacent to edge portions of their related panels so as to form an overlap between abutting panels and thus provide support therebetween. In providing a form of greater height where sets of panels are placed one on top of another, a first wall of such panels is provided in two vertical sets, with vertical walers bracing vertically aligned panels, and overlapping wedging plates providing proper alignment and connection between laterally adjacent panels. An opposite wall made up of two sets of panels is provided in a similar manner, but with a horizontal waler or walers providing for support and alignment.
