  • Patent number: 6031643
Abstract: The present invention is a method for optical data storage which enhances the contrast between ON and OFF pixels. The method comprises writing a two-dimensional image comprising a plurality of pixels into a recording medium with the exposure of individual ON pixels during the recording of the image. The ON pixels are then switched off and OFF pixels are switched on, and the phase of either the object beam or reference beam is changed. The process results in subtraction of residual signal from the OFF pixels.

  • Patent number: 5967878
Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for lapping row edges of a substrate work piece with a flat lapping element. The substrate work piece comprises a section of wafer having parallel aligned multiple row edges to be individually lapped. The wafer has different bow characteristics imparted to different substrate work piece. The bow characteristic of the substrate work piece to be lapped is determined, load points are selected on the work piece which will counteract the bow characteristic, and a pusher with push pads located at the selected load points pushes the work piece at those load points so that the pushing flexes the substrate work piece to counteract the bow characteristic to lap the row edge.

Stacked pliant members are stacked on the first stiff member. Each pliant member has an indentation on the side facing away from the first stiff member. The indentations are substantially equal in width and height to the indentation of the first stiff member. A second stiff member is located on the end of the stack opposite the first stiff member and has a protrusion at least as wide as a flexible ribbon cable facing the indentation of the adjacent pliant member. The protrusion height is such that the sum of its height and the thicknesses of the flexible ribbon cables is greater than the sum of the heights of the indentations of the first stiff member and of the stacked pliant members.

  • Patent number: RE36538
Abstract: A disk drive assembly in which the suspension, slider and transducer are integrated and fabricated to produce a combination assembly. The combination transducer-slider-suspension assembly is batch produced by forming a plurality of the combination assemblies onto a single wafer. The wafer is then diced to separate the assemblies into individual sections. The transducers are deposited onto the wafer and the air bearing surface formed. Conductors to interconnect each transducer with the external circuits are insulated from the wafer and deposited along a path which will form the suspension. A spring-like resilient layer is then deposited over and electrically insulated from the conductors. The wafer is then pattern etched to remove a portion of the wafer backside to form the suspension and provide a transducer/slider combination having an air bearing surface after the wafer is diced to separate the individual combination assemblies.
