Abstract: A red phosphor composition in combination with a semiconductor light emitting device (e.g., VCSEL, LED, or LD), preferably a GaN based device, that emits light at a bright violet-blue light range, i.e., having a wavelength in the range of 400 nm to 600 nm, which can be further combined with green and blue phosphors. The red phosphor composition in the combination is a vanadate combined with yttrium, gadolinium and/or lanthanum and activated with trivalent Eu3+, Sm3+ and Pr3+, or any combination thereof, with or without Tb3+ as a co-dopant, has the general formula: BixLn1?xVO4:A where x=0 to 1, Ln is an element selected from the group consisting of Y, La and Gd, and A is an activator selected from Eu3+, Sm3+ and Pr3+, or any combination thereof, with or without Tb3+ as a co-dopant. Novel red phosphor compositions are provided when x is greater than 0 and less than 1, preferably 0.05 to 0.5.

Abstract: A high performance phased array antenna system for receiving satellite communication signals, with a structural top layer formed as a perforated plate (or solid plate made of very low loss plastic material), a middle layer functioning as the single layer antenna aperture layer, preferably in the form of a single layer printed circuit board on which is formed an array of antenna elements and plurality of stripline feed network circuits, each combining in-phase outputs from several adjacent antenna elements, the bottom layer functioning as the ground plane for the antenna aperture layer and also including a single level waveguide combining network for combining in-phase outputs from stripline feed network circuits electromagnetically coupled to respective transition probe holes of the waveguide combining network. Each antenna element is preferably a dual polarization octagonal patch antenna element disposed on a common surface of the antenna aperture layer.
Abstract: A combined reforming and isomerization process wherein at least a portion of the hydrogen produced in the reforming process is passed with a C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 range normal paraffin feedstock to an isomerization zone, containing an isomerization catalyst, at isomerization condition to produce an isomerized C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 product stream and passing the C.sub.5 -C.sub.6 isomerized product stream to a reformate separation zone (hydrogen stripping and topping zones) and recovering at least a major portion of the isomerized C.sub.5 -C.sub.5 product stream with the reformate for use as a high octane gasoline product.
Abstract: Isolation of native petroleum surfactants for lowering interfacial tensions in aqueous-alkaline systems. Petroleum of the type having reduced interfacial tension with water at high pH is subjected to fractionation by distillation including distillation under vacuum in the temperature range of 100.degree.-200.degree. C. to recover a surfactant fraction of the petroleum distilled in that temperature range. The fraction can be further concentrated by removing benzene-soluble components to obtain an ether-soluble residue having a density greater than water. The fraction alone, mixed with petroleum, or enriched with the residue, or the residue mixed with petroleum, can be injected as a slug into a subterranean oil reservoir to enhance tertiary recovery by alkaline water flooding. The amenability of a reservoir for alkaline flooding can be determined by separating the native surfactant fraction and measuring its interfacial tension with water at the proposed alkalinity of the floodwater.
Abstract: A vending device comprising a box-like housing subdivided in its interior by partitions which form an array of storage bins. A cover, releasably secured to the device, is formed with flexible, resilient projections, each projection partially covering a bin, permitting an article of merchandise therein to be withdrawn by upward flexure of the projection thereat. In one form of the invention the housing is retained on a stand therefor at an angle of about 45.degree.. In another form of the embodiment, the housing is retained adjacent a change tray.
