Abstract: Taper thread joints in carbon or graphite electrode columns are protected from thread damage during assembly by use of a consumable centering pin to assure axial alignment of the mating parts, thereby preventing thread damage and resulting thread debris from forming and interfering with the proper fit of the mating parts forming the joint.
Abstract: A sponge-like free-standing pyrolytic boron article is made by reacting ammonia and gaseous boron halide diluted with an non-oxidizing gas to deposit pyrolitic boron nitride on a porous substrate such as open-pored vitreous carbon under a vacuum and then removing the substrate as by oxidation.
Abstract: The proper assembly of electrode sections is facilitated by placing orientation match-marks on the electrode ends, which marks are lined up at the time of the assembly. Placing of the marks is done with marking gauges and the location is predetermined with reference to the pitch of the socket threads.
Abstract: A rechargeable cell having a metal oxide positive electrode and a hydrogen gas negative electrode is manufactured in accordance with the present invention with a predetermined quantity of hydrogen gas by inserting a metallic member, selected from the group consisting of aluminum, zinc and magnesium, within the cell at a location adapted to contact the aqueous alkaline electrolyte and hermetically sealing the cell.
