  • Patent number: 5133826
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed employing electron cyclotron resonant (ECR) heating to produce plasma for applications including but not limited to chemical vapor deposition and etching. A magnetic field is formed by magnets circumferentially arranged about a cylindrical and symmetrical chamber with microwave power injected perpendicularly to a longitudinal axis of the chamber for preventing line-of-sight communication of resulting energetic electrons through an outlet at one axial end of the chamber. The circumferential magnets in the symmetrical chamber cause precessing of the electrons resulting in greatly increased plasma density and ion flux or current density even at low gas pressures which are preferably maintained for establishing unidirectionality or anisotropic plasma characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5055047
Abstract: A method and confirmation device for making an accurate impression of the upper or lower teeth, implant and gum assembly in which the device includes a cylindrical section having one end temporarily attachable to the exposed threaded end of the implant and a second end having an opening to receive a guide pin. An elongated wing extends tangentially from the cylindrical surface perpendicular to the axis of the cylinder so that when the cylindrical section is attached to the implant, the wing extends along the gum line and has an end that is rigidly attachable to the cylindrical section of a neighboring confirmation device. A rigid metallic frame is thereby established which serves as a foundation for impression material molded in a dental tray around the frame and dental process comprising the implants and remaining teeth and gums.

  • Patent number: 5003225
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for producing microwave radiation wherein a generally stable, high-beta, relativistic electron plasma is formed in a static magnetic field of a suitable enclosure either by an external microwave source or in situ within the plasma by means of at least one pair of steady-state interacting energetic electron beams, a convectively unstable wave then being created in the confined plasma either internally in an oscillator mode or externally in an amplifier mode by means of an external launcher for producing a pulse of relatively intense microwave radiation at a frequency near a local electron gyrofrequency. The above steps or functions are preferably sequentially repeated with sequential pulses of microwave radiation being withdrawn from the enclosure, focused by quasi-optical means and directed toward a target including electronic circuitry, so that the beam of sequential pulses is coupled into the electronic circuitry for developing substantial amounts of energy therein.

  • Patent number: 4896430
Abstract: A scanning gauge and scanning method are disclosed for measuring the effective open area of a throat formed between adjacent vanes secured together at their ends by buttresses or the like wherein locators are mounted on an elongated guide assembly for engaging the vanes forming the throat, a scan element is arranged for traversing the elongated guide assembly in longitudinal movement along the radial length of the throat for assessing radial length thereof, a sensor head is supported by a floating mount on the scan element to remain in engagement with the trailing edge of one vane and a convex surface of the adjacent vane during sweeping movement of the scan element about an axis generally parallel to the trailing edge of the one van for assessing the shortest opening dimension at various sections along the length of the throat, longitudinal and sweeping movement of the scan element being effected by a longitudinal stepper motor and a sweep motor each including mechanical limit switches for monitoring and reg

  • Patent number: 4837750
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for displaying depth sounding data with nautical range are disclosed for use on vessels or the like, the device including a transceiver for transmitting an acoustic signal downwardly through surrounding water and for receiving echo signals, a motion sensor for determining nautical distance, a microprocessor for storing and conditioning the echo signals and distance signals and a display device for providing an XY display of underwater conditions represented by the echo signals. Range display means associated with or included in the display device and operated by the microprocessor display nautical range of a selected and preferably adjustable point on the X axis. The microprocessor includes a range memory stack, a stack manager and an internal register for storing bytes or distance data for successive vertical scans. The device also preferably includes a differential temperature sensor.

  • Patent number: 4770451
Abstract: Multiple embodiments of a security lock for hinged entry doors or the like are disclosed, each having a strike plate adapted for mounting on the door jamb with a lock element being selectively operable for locking the door and being opened inwardly. In one embodiment, the lock element is engaged with a slotted extension of the strike plate for locking the door and with an offset plate portion for storing the lock element in an unlocked position out of engagement with the door. In another embodiment, the lock element is connected to an offset portion of the plate by an elongated flexible element such as a chain. In yet another embodiment, the lock element is an elongated hook member which is rotatably attached to the plate and extends inwardly of the door in its closed position, the hook member being rotatable into either a locking position for engaging the door after it is opened a short distance from the jamb or an unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 4641060
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a gas pumping plasma within an evacuated enclosure having a collimating system consisting of baffle structures and a magnetic field having a central uniform region connected to a source of neutral gas, a magnetic mirror intermediate region and a terminating divergent region. According to the method and apparatus of the present invention, the enclosure is evacuated to a selected pressure, high frequency microwave energy of a selected power and frequency is fed into the magnetic mirror intermediate region, the magnetic field is established at a strength such that an electron cyclotron frequency is made equal to the frequency of the microwave energy within the intermediate region, electrons within the magnetic mirror intermediate region being heated by the microwave energy, the heated electrons ionizing the neutral gas in the intermediate and central regions for creating and maintaining a pumping plasma.

  • Patent number: 4598165
Abstract: A sleeve for installation on an electrical conductor for shielding the conductor with respect to the environment in which the conductor resides against electromagnetic interference (EMI). The sleeve is formed of a tubular member made of heat recoverable material and having, in the non-recovered condition, a large central opening through which the wire to be shielded can be passed. The interior of the tubular member is lined with a plurality of conductive leaves or pellicles. One circumferential margin of the pellicles is adhered to the internal surface of the tubular member and the remainder of each pellicle is unattached and remains in overlapping relationship to an adjacent pellicle. When the sleeve is positioned over a conductor to be shielded and energy is applied to the tubular member to effect its recovery, the unattached portions of the pellicles move with respect to one another as the tubular member shrinks to uniformly circumscribe the conductor with an electrically conductive shield.
