  • Patent number: 6741435
Abstract: A DC arc-suppressor for network appliance power managers comprises an electromechanical relay that controls the flow of battery power to a network appliance by remote control. The relay includes electrical contacts that open to interrupt the flow of current in response to an off-command signal. A transistor is connected in shunt across the relay contacts to temporarily divert such flow of current. A timing circuit is connected to respond to the off-command signal by first turning on the shunt transistor, then open the relay contacts, then turn off the shunt transistor. Such shunt transistor is sized to carry the full rated power of the relay contacts, but only for the few milliseconds that are needed to allow the relay contacts to fully separate.

  • Patent number: 6711613
Abstract: An SNMP network comprises a power manager with an SNNP agent in TCP/IP communication over a network with an SNMP network manager. The power manager is connected to control several intelligent power modules each able to independently control the power-on/off status of several network appliances. Power-on and load sensors within each intelligent power module are able to report the power status of each network appliance to the SNMP network manager with MIB variables in response to GET commands. Each intelligent power module is equipped with an output that is connected to cause an interrupt signal to the network appliance being controlled. The SNMP network manager is able to test which network appliance is actually responding before any cycling of the power to the corresponding appliance is tried.

  • Patent number: 6598877
Abstract: Gaming apparatus has rotatable disks turning about a common axis of rotation and having annular bands of indicia of different diameters on faces of the disks which extend toward the axis of rotation. A player's winnings are determined by alignment of particular indicia along one or more radii of the disks after a period of rotation. In one form of the invention, the disks are supported, driven and held in a centered relationship with the axis of rotation by gear sets situated at angular intervals around the periphery of the disks which engage gear teeth at the rims of the disks. In another form, the disks are axially spaced apart flat plates of progressively greater diameter extending from drive shafting at the axis of rotation. In another form, the disks are at least partially formed of transparent material enabling viewing of indicia on disks which are behind other disks.

  • Patent number: 6473731
Abstract: A system for recognizing the existence of and adjusting the psycho-acoustic parameters present in an audio digital CODEC. A audio digital CODEC is provided with various parameters that when changed affect the quality of the resultant audio. These psycho-acoustic parameters include the standard ISO parameters and additional parameters to aid in effecting a pure resulting audio quality. The psycho-acoustic parameters located in the audio digital CODEC can be monitored and controlled by the user. The parameters can be monitored by a speaker associated with the CODEC or headphones. The user can control the adjustment of the psycho-acoustic parameters through the use of knobs present on the front panel of the CODEC or graphic or digital representations. Adjustment of the parameters will provide real time change of the resulting audio sound that the user can monitor through the speaker or the headphones.

  • Patent number: 6411616
Abstract: An arrangement for multicasting digital data to a user accessing an Internet connection is disclosed. The arrangement entails placing streaming digital data content that is to be multicast in IP protocol to generate streaming IP digital data. The streaming IP digital data is uplinked from a transmission site to a satellite and downlinked to one or more remote Internet gateways via a communications path that is substantially separate from the Internet backbone. A plurality of separate satellite receiver systems, which may be located at separate remote Internet gateways, are adapted to receive IP streaming content via downlink carrier from the satellite and provide the streaming IP content to an Internet gateway without providing substantial TCP confirmation of delivery. At a remote Internet gateway, the streaming IP digital data content is multicast for delivery as a one-way data stream to at least one receiving Internet user's apparatus connected to but distant from the remote Internet gateway.

  • Patent number: 6411607
Abstract: This specification discloses a satellite transmission system for transmission of TCP/IP compatible packets from a head end computer through a satellite uplink, an extraterrestrial satellite, a satellite downlink, and an integrated satellite receiver/router for outputting of the TCP/IP compatible packets through a port on the receiver/router onto a computer LAN or WAN. The system may include an Internet or telecommunications backchannel. The receiver becomes router enabled by means of a removable insertion Ethernet/Router insertion card inserted into a slot in the receiver, although the transmission system may be used to simultaneously transmit a variety of other services through the receiver by use of other service slots in the receiver. The Ethernet/Receiver supports the IGMPv2 Multicasting (querier and non querier modes), standard TCP/IP (including UDP and Telnet), and SNMP protocols.

  • Patent number: 6373927
Abstract: A digital audio transmitter system capable of transmitting high quality, wideband speech over a transmission channel with a limited bandwidth such as a traditional telephone line. The digital audio transmitter system includes a coder for coding an input audio signal to a digital signal having a transmission rate that does not exceed the maximum allowable transmission rate for traditional telephone lines and a decoder for decoding the digital signal to provide an output audio signal with an audio bandwidth of wideband speech. A coder and a decoder may be provided in a single device to allow two-way communication between multiple devices.

  • Patent number: 6351728
Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting or storing, over an interference affected channel, digital audio signals that have been subjected to data reduction, resulting in a reduced data, digital audio signal that is present in at least one of the time domain and spectral domain, depending on source coding. An interfered-with signal section is detected in the reduced data, digital audio signal at a receiving end. The interfered-with reduced data, digital audio signal section is masked by one of (a) muting only interfered-with spectral values or subbands, or groups of spectral values or subbands in the signal section and (b) replacing only interfered-with spectral values or subbands, or groups of spectral values or subbands in the signal section with a signal component from the same channel or an adjacent channel including at least one of time domain sampled values, spectral domain sampled values, scale factors, and control information, depending on the source coding of the reduced data, digital audio signal.

  • Patent number: 6212201
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for dynamically allocated multiple slots within a multi-channel multi-carrier transmission system. The slots may be allocated sequentially or non-sequentially. The data transmission rate for each slot remains constant, while multiple slots may be allocated to a single user service. Each carrier signal contains header data regarding all other carriers associated with the transmission system to identify the allocation of slots to user services. In an alternative embodiment, an encoding and transmitting system is provided for transmitting one or more video and audio encoded signals in a time division multiplexed manner along separate channels having fixed bandwidths. Multiple audio channels may be transmitted simultaneously with a related single video channel, and vice versa. The time division multiplexed audio/video signals may be transmitted over a single carrier or over multiple carriers.
