  • Patent number: 4048075
Abstract: A filter cartridge or element for separating particles from fluid flowing inwardly through the cartridge, and a process for making the same, such cartridge having a central perforated inner tubular core member with a pre-formed mat of non-woven fibrous filter material having a width substantially equal to the length of the core member and wrapped around only the core member and itself in a continuous spiral layer to form a roll of the mat. The roll mat of filter material is contained or confined by an open mesh material such as that formed by a substantially single layer of a strand of roving wound in an open criss-cross or open diamond weave pattern around only the outer periphery of the material of the rolled mat and itself so as to maintain a permanent dimensional and structural stability or integrity during subsequent handling and use.

  • Patent number: 4042559
Abstract: A composite abrasion resistant, coated and abrasive containing pipe lining sheet comprises a pipe lining layer consisting from about 30 to about 70% by volume of abrasion resistant abrasive granules (preferably from about 45 to about 55% by volume of silicon carbide, alumina or alumina/zirconia granules of blocky shape, nonaligned orientation and diverse size) and from about 70 to about 30% by volume (preferably from about 55 to about 45% by volume) of a flexible organic resin binder, preferably phenolic, polyurethane, polybutadiene-acrylonitrile or epoxy resins. The pipe lining sheet can optionally be provided with a paper or textile backing bonded thereto, or with a backing of nonabsorbent, nonreactive film such as polyester, which can later be stripped off the abrasion resistant pipe lining material prior to use for lining pipes.

  • Patent number: 4032476
Abstract: Granular activated carbon is manufactured from sub-bituminous coal by crushing and screening the as received coal containing 17% moisture by weight to produce 8/30 mesh granules which are treated by mixing with about 5% by weight of concentrated inorganic acid (H.sub.2 SO.sub.4, H.sub.3 PO.sub.4 or HCl), without the addition of a carbonaceous binder. The so treated granules are ground to more than 65% by weight -325 mesh powder, preferably 75 to 85% by weight -325 mesh, which powder has a moisture (including acid) content of about 21% by weight, as a temporary binder, and which powder is compressed into pellets of 0.5 inch diameter and 0.5 inch long under a pressure of 40,000 to 80,000 psi, and then granulated to obtain 6/20 mesh granules. These granules are devolatilized by heating to 450.degree. C at 300.degree. C/hour in an atmosphere of N.sub.2 and the volatiles and by maintaining the temperature for 1 hour, and then activated by heating to 800.degree. to 900.degree. C in an atmosphere of N.sub.

  • Patent number: 4018023
Abstract: A ceramic element or fastener is provided for supporting flexible insulation in a furnace of the type designed for high temperature operations. The insulation is supported upon a ceramic element which projects outwardly from a structural supporting member, and retained upon the element by a ceramic washer. The washer is fastened in locking engagement upon the element near its outer end. The base of the element is retained within a metal socket, the base of which is fastened to the support member to provide a firm but non-rigid attachment of the element to the structural supporting member.
