Abstract: A vacuum chuck with a conductive circuit embedded.onto it's surface wherein the chuck provides a reliable conductive path for electrical testing as well as reliable and uniform mechanical support over the entire area of a flexible panel to be tested. In one possible form, the chuck comprises an air permeable fine grain porous alumina ceramic module having a surface coated with conductive material wherein the coating is thin enough that it does not prevent air from passing through the conductive material or the ceramic module. The conductive material may also be etched or otherwise formed into a conductive pattern to facilitate testing of a panel.

Abstract: Methods are provided for removing edge beads from spin-on films. A spin-on film is removed from a region of a surface of a spin-coated substrate adjacent to an edge of the surface by spinning the spin-coated substrate, expanding a fluid through a nozzle to form a cryogenic aerosol stream, and directing the cryogenic aerosol stream against the spin-on film in the region as the substrate spins. In another aspect of the invention, a film is formed on a surface of a substrate by dispensing a liquid composition onto the surface, spinning the substrate to distribute the liquid composition to form a substantially uniform film on the surface, expanding a fluid through a nozzle to form a cryogenic aerosol stream, and directing the cryogenic aerosol stream against the film in a region of the surface adjacent to an edge of the surface as the substrate spins. The film may include an alkoxysilane and a low volatility solvent. The fluid may consists essentially of liquid carbon dioxide.
Abstract: A nanoporous polymer comprises hollow structures fabricated from crosslinked polymeric strands. The hollow structures are further coupled to other crosslinked polymeric strands by a covalent bond. Particularly contemplated nanoporous polymers have a Tg of no less than 400° C. and a dielectric constant k of no more than 2.5.
Abstract: Proper registration between layers of a laminated multi-layer interconnect can be achieved by precisely dimensioning the alignment plate, selecting the materials of which the alignment plate is composed to have the same thermal coefficient of expansion as the layers being laminated, and/or providing the alignment plate with pins sized to be equal to or larger the alignment/registration holes of the layers.
Abstract: Measurement of the permittivity of thin films is facilitated through the use of a short cylindrical metal cavity containing parallel plates between which a specimen to be measured is placed. The use of such parallel plates contained within such a cavity is particularly advantageous when swept frequency measurement methods utilizing frequency ranges from 0 to 20 GHz are employed. A test fixture which is preferred for use in providing such a cavity is disclosed as are methods of using the test fixture.
Abstract: A programmable arithmetic and logic unit (ALU) comprising a plurality of data selectors, the data selectors having corresponding data input lines; a plurality of ALU function input lines wherein the number of ALU function input lines is equal to the number of data input lines on each of the data selectors, and each ALU function input line corresponds to one data input line on each of the data selectors; wherein each of the data input lines of each of the data selectors is connected to the corresponding data input lines of each of the other data selectors and to the corresponding ALU function input line.

Abstract: A new composition is formed by combining a reduced waste rubber, a heavy paraffin and a reduced waste thermoplastic, and then further reducing the resulting material while holding it at an elevated temperature. In preferred embodiments the rubber and thermoplastic are pre-processed by reduction to mesh sizes of about 0.25 inch and 0.5 inch respectively, and the paraffin is pre-processed by being fluidizing to have a viscosity of at most about 1.0 Centipoise. It is also contemplated that the rubber and paraffin can be advantageously combined with each other prior to inclusion of the thermoplastic, with the paraffin/rubber combination being heated to a temperature of about 220° F. to about 250° F. for about 3 minutes. It is still further contemplated that the combination of rubber, paraffin and thermoplastic can be heated to between about 360° F. and about 500° F.
Abstract: A modularized filtration system includes multiple production modules mechanically coupled in series to form a production chain, and fluidly coupled by parallel feed fluid, waste fluid, and product fluid flowpaths. The system also includes a turbine, work exchange unit, or other energy recovery device to extract energy from the waste fluid. The system may also advantageously include a pressurization device for pressurizing a feed fluid, and provide a common drive shaft for the energy recovery and pressurization devices.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided in which a metal precursor is formed in a process that includes the following steps: depositing a metal precursor on a substrate; adding an energy to reduce the metal precursor and to precipitate metal on the substrate as a continuous metal layer; and selecting the metal precursor and the energy such that the purity of the continuous metal layer is greater than 85%, and/or the deposited layer has an electrical conductivity substantially that of a pure metal. Methods and apparatus are also provided in which a metal is deposited onto a substrate by a process which includes the following steps: depositing the metal precursor onto the substrate in a desired pattern; and applying sufficient energy to decompose the precursor to precipitate metal in a continuous metal layer in the desired pattern.
Abstract: A method of designing an electronic component comprises: a) modeling a first material with respect to a characteristic of the first material in a sufficient detail to at least partially account for a first value for the characteristic; b) modeling a second material with respect to a characteristic of the second material in a sufficient detail to at least partially account for a second value for the characteristic; c) modeling an interface between the first material and the second material such that in at least some instances the characteristic of the interface does not have an obvious characteristic or obvious value of between the first value and the second value; and d) generating a set of evaluation data from the modeling of the interface.
Abstract: Isoflavones are modified by esterification at one or more of the C4′, C5, C6, and C7 positions to promote bioavailability, and especially to enhance solubility over the corresponding unesterified isoflavones. Preferred modifications produce a carboxylic acid hemiester or a phosphate ester which is biologically hyrolyzable. Preferred starting isoflavones are genistin and daidzin, and still more preferably comprises an aglycone form such as genistein or daidzein. Esterified isoflavones may be employed therapeutically or prophylactically for a variety of conditions, provided as a dietary supplement, or added to natural or processed food-stuffs.
Abstract: Method and compositions for determining oxidative stress in a subject are provided in which presence of an aldehyde in a biological fluid is correlated with an oxidative stress in a subject. A test reagent having a pH regulator, a reducing agent, and an aldehyde-reactive chromogen is mixed with the biological fluid, and the color of the resulting aldehyde-modified chromogen is correlated with the oxidative stress.
Abstract: Compositions and methods are provided whereby printed wiring boards may be produced that comprise a) a substrate layer, and b) a hollow, mirror-clad optical wave-guide laminated onto the substrate layer. Abstract: Aromatic aliphatic ether solvents, such as anisole, methylanisole, and phenetole, have been found useful in formulating coating solutions of polymeric dielectric materials and as a clean up solvent in the coating process. A process for forming a dielectric film on a substrate includes depositing a coating solution of a dielectric material in a formulation solvent onto a surface of the substrate and depositing an aromatic aliphatic ether solvent onto an edge portion of the surface of the substrate. The process is used to form films of dielectric materials including arylene ether dielectric polymers, hydridosiloxane resins, organohydridosiloxane resins, spin-on-glass materials, partially hydrolyzed and partially condensed alkoxysilane compositions which are cured to form a nanoporous dielectric silica material, and poly(perhydrido)silazanes.
