  • Patent number: 8301928
Abstract: A hardware based wake-up scheme initiates memory power-up upon a normal access to a powered down memory. The access that triggered the power-up is buffered. Further accesses are stalled until the memory is completely powered up. The buffered access then proceeds to the memory and the processor is brought out of stall. In cases where the software does not directly control access to the memory, such as on a cache miss, this scheme avoids undesirable conditions due to access to powered down memories.

  • Patent number: 8286042
Abstract: This invention generates the random seed patterns using simple, low-area overhead digital circuitry on-chip. This circuit is implemented as a finite state machine whose states are the seeds as contrasted to storing the seeds in the prior art. These seeds are used to control pseudo-random pattern generation for built-in self-tests. This invention provides a large reduction in chip area in comparison with storing seeds on-chip or off-chip.

  • Patent number: 8264391
Abstract: A signal converting system has a multi-segment digital to analog converter coupled to an error shaping loop. A control value is received at a vector processor that indicates a number N of elements that are to be selected from a vector having M elements. The elements of the vector are sorted into a bitonic sequence and separated into a larger value group and a smaller value group using a bitonic split. Only the larger value group is sorted into an ordered sequence with repeated bitonic splits when the control value is less than M/2, and N largest elements are selected from the ordered sequence. Only the smaller value group is sorted into an ordered sequence with repeated bitonic splits when the control value is greater than M/2, and N?M/2 largest elements are selected from the ordered sequence.

  • Patent number: 8265682
Abstract: A cell within cellular network includes user equipment (UE) that transmits data to a base station (eNB). When a UE does not have data to transmit, it may enter a low power mode (DRX) having silent intervals during which the eNB does not expect to receive a transmission from the UE and the UE is not required to monitor DL control channels from the eNB. While in DRX mode, the UE may detect an event, such as data ready for transmission or a need to request a timing adjustment (TA) update. The UE transmits a scheduling request indicator (SRI) to the eNB in response to detection of the event, wherein the SRI carries information identifying the triggering event.

  • Patent number: 8264568
Abstract: This invention is an image pickup device that realizes a wide dynamic range while minimizing circuit area using a pixel array that can pick up a low-sensitivity image and a high-sensitivity image. This invention obtains information (S1/S2) needed for generating a correction coefficient using one more than the number of pixels readout circuits (RC1 to RCn+1). This significantly reduces the circuit area compared with the case of using twice as many readout circuits as pixels for generating the correction coefficient.

  • Patent number: 8266486
Abstract: This invention is a method of operating a system having multiple finite state machines and a controller controlling an operational state of each finite state machine. Upon selection by the controller of a changed operational state, each finite state machine determines if it supports the changed operational state. If the finite state machine supports the changed operational state, it enters the changed operational state. If the finite state machine does not support the changed operational state, it enters an offline state. The controller may also determine whether a changed operational state is supported by each finite state machine.

  • Patent number: 8254483
Abstract: A transmission within a wireless cellular network may include a first and second type of information. A subframe includes a plurality of symbols, at least one symbol is designated as a data symbol and at least one symbol is designated as a reference signal symbol that contains a pre-defined reference signal. The first type of information is embedded in the data symbols. If the second type of data is expected, then the second type of information is embedded in at least one reference symbol by quadrature amplitude modulating the pre-defined reference signal. The subframe is then transmitted from one node in the network to a second node. If it is determined that the second node is not expecting the second type of information, then a discontinuous transmission (DTX) response is embedded in the reference symbol instead of the second type of information.

  • Patent number: 8233545
Abstract: A computer implemented method of video data encoding generates a mask having one bit corresponding each spatial frequency coefficient of a block during quantization. The bit state of the mask depends upon whether the corresponding quantized spatial frequency coefficient is zero or non-zero. The runs of zero quantized spatial frequency coefficients determined by a left most bit detect instruction are determined from the mask and run length encoded. The mask is generated using a look up table to map the scan order of quantization to the zig-zag order of run length encoding. Variable length coding and inverse quantization optionally take place within the run length encoding loop.
